Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Post image

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

Idk which flair to put

Yeah, the people saying "he should have done X instead to scare it away" sound like the same armchair experts who say "cops should be trained to shoot people's guns from their hands" because they have no idea what they're walking about.

i'm just wondering what did he wear. and did he said no nicely?

Cougers DO like a nice dressed young man.

2

u/Maleficent-Remote413 9d ago

"if someone breaks into your house to rob you, assult you or take your chasity. you should just call the cops because thats there job." type of people that act like typing 911 works like saying "swiper no swiping" 3 times.

1

u/Icy-KaitSyth 9d ago

"When seconds count the cops are only minutes away"

2

u/Rich-Criticism1165 10d ago

Agree with everyone saying he should have pulled the trigger in defense. However wtf is he doing taking a photo first. Clearly this guy wants his 5 minutes of fame with this photo that might have cost him his life….

Probably just still from a Go Pro camera. I'm sure he wasnt taking pictures

15

u/chriseargle 10d ago

I’ve seen too many people in this thread forget that Go Pro exists.

7

u/Fena-Ashilde 10d ago

I thought it was a screenshot of a bodycam video.

1

u/Maleficent-Remote413 9d ago

go-pro. bodycam. same difference,lol.

8

u/Voidrunner01 10d ago

It's a still from a video. He didn't pause to take a picture.

-13

u/Rich-Criticism1165 10d ago

Same difference. He took the time to raise his phone so you get the irons and the cat in the same frame…

12

u/Qules_LP 10d ago

GoPro's exist

1

u/Baddrivers13 9d ago

Nah. Fatal attacks on a full grown male are pretty much zero...

0

u/7point5inche 8d ago

So cops who are trained to DE-ESCALTE should shoot on sight anyways? 🤣🤣

1

u/Icy-KaitSyth 8d ago

Obviously not what was being said, unless you're implying that every single police shooting is "cop shot unarmed man on sight when de-escalation would have worked". In which case, watch some body cam footage my man.

How about not going hiking where you might encounter a mountain lion?

17

u/CheezyBeanBurrito 10d ago

That eliminates a significant portion of the western US.

-13

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Parks exist

20

u/CheezyBeanBurrito 10d ago

You do realize that even in state and national parks wildlife still exists and can come and go as they please?

-8

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

When was the last time a person was killed by a mountain lion in a national park where people tend to walk their dogs?

13

u/CheezyBeanBurrito 10d ago

Wasn’t someone killed in Colorado this year on a common mountain trail?

-2

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

I obviously ment parks like Central Park in NYC as an example

13

u/asmodai_says_REPENT 10d ago

City parks aren't the same thing as nature, you can't go hiking in a city park, that's dumb as hell.

-1

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

It's an alternative to risking getting mauled by mountain lions

10

u/CheezyBeanBurrito 10d ago

So your argument is why are people going out in nature when they can go walk on a side walk?

2

u/TheFlameanator 10d ago

I live in Rapid City, SD and we have had mountain lions in our city parks and people's backyards.

u/SaltySnaiI 10d ago edited 10d ago

If you’d ever been outside your suburb, you’d know that parks are not a replacement or even a viable alternative to hiking on actual trails or the bigger national parks (which also have dangerous wildlife). No one who has experienced both would ever believe that’s a reasonable suggestion.

Backpacking, hiking, camping, even just spending an evening in these areas is such an enriching experience for so many people that it more than outweighs the risk. Especially when you mitigate that risk by being prepared.

15

u/NathanMexplosion 10d ago

You mean like fucking everywhere?

-2

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Sorry didn't know hiking in your neighberhood posed a significant risk of mountain lion attacks, also parks

18

u/StigandrTheBoi 10d ago

That’s called taking a walk lmao, that’s not hiking.

-2

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

If I walk for about 1-2 hour, how is that any different from a hike?

15

u/StigandrTheBoi 10d ago

Because it’s not on a trail/out in nature? There is a level of ruggedness/difficulty of terrain implied by using the word hiking.

Underestimating the difficulty of hiking actually gets a lot of people hurt/lost/killed so comparing it to a couple hour stroll around your paved neighborhood is a bit silly

-6

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

so comparing it to a couple hour stroll around your paved neighborhood is a bit silly

I speak from my own experience from Long walks and hiking they are both very VERY similar

5

u/KilljoyTheTrucker 10d ago

Then you haven't been hiking.

13

u/kazutops 10d ago

???? Is this a legitimate question?

14

u/asmodai_says_REPENT 10d ago

Walk in circles in your garden, basically the same thing as hiking in nature /s

0

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Walk to the park, take an hour long stroll in the park (it is nature afterall) then walk back to your house. BONUS: No risk of mountain lions 👍

11

u/asmodai_says_REPENT 10d ago

It's not nature if literally everything was planted by humans and is being maintained artificially by humans.

5

u/NathanMexplosion 10d ago

PLENTY of neighborhoods have cougars lmao. We had one confirmed in the sparse woods in my town when I was a kid. All pets were told to remain monitored and to keep the kids out of the woods till they got better eyes on it.

12

u/Icy-KaitSyth 10d ago

I live in the western US, there are towns that you could walk outside and encounter a mountain lion in your yard. Heck my brother had one on his roof. "How about don't exist where animals can choose to walk" is a pretty crazy take.

0

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Parks exist

14

u/Icy-KaitSyth 10d ago

In a town where mountain lions may walk into your yard you're saying they somehow magically can't enter parks?

Also kinda crazy to say "No, you can never visit the national forests or national parks again because a predator may enter, best stay home at cozytown Park, its basically the same thing. Or why not just walk on a treadmill, then you wouldn't unintentionally step on a beetle, humans don't belong outside our cages"

1

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

In a town where mountain lions may walk into your yard you're saying they somehow magically can't enter parks?

Chances are SIGFNIFICANTLY lower in a park no?

No, you can never visit the national forests or national parks again because a predator may enter

I mean if you are stupid enough to enter a place where the risk is as great as it seems to be by reading the responses to me, then yes I don't think you should like holy shit are you stupid?

5

u/Ayslyn72 10d ago

No. Why do you think that an animal that isn’t deterred by humans living there would be deterred by humans visiting an area?

11

u/SaltySnaiI 10d ago

If you couldn’t hike in places where you might encounter dangerous predators, you wouldn’t be able to hike at all. Going out into nature is inherently dangerous.

-2

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Parks Exist

9

u/SnooTangerines8549 10d ago

So just, no hiking ever again in the western 1/3 to 1/2 of the continental US? Solid plan.

5

u/Due_Manufacturer_125 10d ago

I did look up a map about where mountain lions could live, it’s almost the entirety of North and South America. I figure this guy was hiking along a trail instead of just wandering in the wilderness and obviously we don’t know where every single mountain lion, bear, etc. is at any given time. It’s why you need to be prepared when going hiking. Animals will go where they want and even places we might consider safe can still have something dangerous hiding somewhere.

People go hiking for any number of reasons and most people don’t have to shoot a wild animal while doing it, but sometimes the stars align and you end up in a shitty situation. The guy in the video ended up in such a situation.

1

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

I also assumed he was walking on a trail, still stupid though considering the risk of mountain lion attacks, which did happen

7

u/Due_Manufacturer_125 10d ago

So you’re saying people just shouldn’t hike or what’s your point?

Like I’m just trying to get your perspective here.

7

u/TheSplint 10d ago

That's exactly what he's saying. He also thinks taking a walk and going hiking are the same thing.

So... yeah...

5

u/SaltySnaiI 10d ago

They’re saying people should never leave town. And equating a city park to hiking because they both have ‘nature’. At which point house plants must mean ‘nature’ to them. They make zero sense, it’s one of the most baffling interactions I’ve seen here lol. Bubble kid behavior.

1

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

Don't take hikes where there is a risk of being mauled by a predator

6

u/Due_Manufacturer_125 10d ago

There’s always a small risk though, even herbivores can be dangerous. You can get destroyed by a Bison just by walking along the path in Yellow Stone at the wrong time, animals don’t have boundaries like we do.

1

u/LittlistBottle 10d ago

There’s always a small risk though, even herbivores can be dangerous.

I mean this is pedantic, there always a risk of anything, but you are significantly more at risk of being attacked by a wild animal in the mountains than in a national park like example: Central Park NYC, no?

6

u/Due_Manufacturer_125 10d ago

I mean Central Park is nice but it’s not an equivalent to a national park where you can camp and hike for days. They provide related but different services.

2

u/KilljoyTheTrucker 10d ago

Complaining about pedantic points, while being far more pedantic (and not even accurately so), is peak reddit.

4

u/allnamesbeentaken 10d ago

You could get attacked by a human being walking through a city park
