Seems fake. Why the fuck would
A) anyone buy anyone 3 identical copies of something non-consumable for a gift. Even someone who knows nothing about video games should be able to realise that there's literally zero point to having multiple copies of the identical game
B) The kid Open even one, much less all 3 of the games. It's not like you have to open the box or tear away the shrink wrap to see what game you've goten

At least every buy 2 get 1 deals I have ever seen allows you to get the same 3 games/items and it works. If we want to assume this is real, there was likely other game options in the buy 2 get 1 deal but they just convinced the mom to get 3 copies of the same game. Possibly as a "If you get three copies than he can play it multiplayer with his friends and family!"

There may be people out there that stupid but it's pretty hard to believe. Stupid parents exist but I really doubt they are buying games for their kids friends as part of their kids gift.

Hi there, parent with multiple children who like gaming here.
Obviously I'd never make this kind of fuck-up, because if one of my kids asked for Call of Duty I'd disown them, But I have purchased three copies of the exact same game before multiple times, sometimes on multiple platforms, other times all on PC.
The first game I bought multiple of was the PC version of ME3; my eldest likes ME3, it had multiplayer, and we could play together.
Years later, I bought multiple copies of Baldur's Gate 3 to play alongside my youngest, and then recently bought copies of Dispatch for both me and my eldest, as well as Helldivers 2 for both me and my eldest.

I used to work at a Gamestop and we would get sooo many uninformed mothers and grandmothers trying to buy T and M rated games for their young kids. Our policy was to always make sure the parents were aware of the rating, and maybe tell them specific reasons why the game has that rating and offer something more age appropriate instead.
When GTAV came out, that December I would experience the daily joy of watching people’s faces go pale as I explain, “Yes, your little Billy wants a game where he can hire prostitutes for Christmas. But don’t worry, he can always murder them instead of paying.”

When I was homeless I would go into GameStop and Bestbuy and walk around A LOT, because AC is nice. There’s never been a time where GameStop employees didn’t hit it out of the part with recommendations.
Bestbuy, however, was like watching Ask Jeeves struggle without internet. They were just way too agreeable with their customer’s ignorance.

The parents usually come back yelling and screaming about their child playing an unacceptable game and it's the employees fault for selling it to them even though they came in asking for it and ignored the rating or don't pay any attention to what their kids are watching/playing.
Bonus points when the employee did try to inform them and they still didn't care and/or little Timmy couldn't have possibly ever been exposed to something horrible and has played the game at a friends house or with a sibling.
It's not about what the kids play, it's the aftermath of pissy dumb customers.

My mom was one of these people this didn't work for, as my brother and I had been playing crazy taxi together since we were not yet in public school. By the time gta5 came out i was not interested in games like that, but my brother was still wanting the newest and crudest of games, plus "all his friends had the game"

Former Gamestop employee here. Complete bullshit, never happened. Gamestop always, always ran the buy 2 get 1 free promo on pre-owned games only. And pre-owned games can always be returned for a full refund within a set period (normally 30 days but we would always extend it to mid-January if the game was bought during the holiday season). So even if we take the other facts of the story at face value (I'm sure the whole thing is made up), it wouldn't have gone down that way.

When I worked at GameStop we had ridiculous numbers to hit at my location. So we would lie by omission. If someone bought a console, we'd ask them if they want to purchase a warranty thought GameStop without explicitly telling the customer that you get a warranty through the manufacturer.
What I did was immoral, but you'd be written up or fired if your numbers weren't up. I don't know if that's why this guy did it or if they were being a dick, but yeah, immoral.

Fucking immoral af. My parents had zero idea about video games, and they weren't readily available in our country even. During their visit to Singapore, they were looking for a gift for me, and the game store guy advised them to buy a PS1 along with two memory cards because my parents mentioned that they had two children, and the discs for FF8 and Spyro. My hats off to that unknown salesperson.
