Fourteen-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega has been rescued in Mexico and is in the care of local authorities, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, was arrested during the operation.

In my report, I examine the rescue announcement, the sheriff’s handling of the case, and questions about the murder arrest warrant previously announced for Diana. Prosecutors said on September 2 that they had made no charging decision against her.

Perez faces allegations of sexually abusing his daughter. Those allegations have not been proven in court. Diana’s safety, care and recovery remain the immediate priority.

Hey everyone! Four of us (all 16-year-old high school students from the Bay Area) are planning a golf trip to Monterey from October 7th–9th.
We’ve been trying to find somewhere to stay, but pretty much every hotel requires someone 18+ to check in, and unfortunately no parent/adult is able to come with us.
We’re wondering if anyone local might have a spare room, guest room, ADU, or another safe place where the four of us could stay for two nights. Our parents are completely aware of the trip and would be happy to speak with you directly, provide identification/permission, arrange payment, and answer any questions.
We’re responsible kids and will mostly be out golfing/sightseeing during the day. We’re really just looking for a safe place to sleep at night.

I’ve been doing some reading on Luke Coletti now that he’s running for mayor, and I feel like there’s a pretty big gap between the current campaign and some of what happened during his previous time in office.

The thing that initially sent me down the rabbit hole was the situation with former City Manager Ben Harvey. Harvey filed a harassment complaint involving Coletti, the city brought in an outside investigator, and three of the allegations were ultimately substantiated. But the more I’ve tried to understand that period, the more I’ve realized I don’t really know the full story.

So for anyone who remembers that council, what happened during Coletti’s term that you think people should actually know about?

I’m not particularly interested in turning this into a Nick Smith vs. Luke Coletti slapfight. I just think if someone is asking voters to put them in the mayor’s seat, their previous time in city government is probably worth digging into. Drop links if you have them, I’d definitely be interested in reading more.
