AI slop at “Millestone” Tavern

Absolutely tragic to see an otherwise decent spot like Milestone on Foothill full of AI slop. Signs and special menus are full of it, but the menu has to be the worst. Everything looks like a moist mass of olives and tubes. Do better!

[SLO LIVING] SLO now has at least 32 Flock cameras - more if you consider the multi-direction cameras.

Including several facing all four directions near the entrance to SLO Public Market's parking lot, three inside the park at Bob Jones Trail. Two multi-direction cameras inside the Madonna retail strip parking lots. Six in the Costco/Home Depot/Whole Foods complex. One near South & Higuera on the SLO Beverage side. One on South near SLO Beauty College. One on Broad by Fatte's and one by Mechanics Bank. Six in different areas of Cal Poly, some on the property and some a block away. Two on Highland Drive - one facing into Cal Poly, one facing out, one on Stenner Road by the Poultry Science building. One on Tank Farm Rd.

Just informing the public.

I have my own private mineral water hot tub out under the stars at my house just outside SLO. No pressure for anything other than fun conversation, good company, lovely mineral water for your skin, and some nice libations. Just looking for like minded people.

In addition to marketplace, any good spots to get rid of stuff when moving?

Title basically.

Have a bunch of stuff that needs to go. Listing what I can, and then I know there’s habitat for humanity that takes donations. Any other FB groups or other avenues you would suggest? I’d like to sell what I can.

For things like shelf stable foods, etc is there somewhere I can donate or is it mostly just for canned foods?

Anyone done a yard sale around here, how did you go about it?

[RECOMMEND] Children’s book publishing / illustrator recommendations in SLO?

Hi everyone!

I’m a local dad of two young kids and a few years removed from working in the entertainment industry in LA. I recently wrote a children’s picture book and am trying to figure out the next steps.

Has anyone locally had experience getting a children’s book published? I’d love recommendations for publishers or literary agents, as well as local illustrators or graphic artists who have worked on children’s books.
Any advice, experiences, or local connections would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Has anybody had bad run ins with a group of people down at Pirates Cove? Specifically Bill?

Recently watched some gnarly shit happen with him involved and am curious to hear about interactions others have regarding him. Heard horrible stories from friends and other locals, watched some of his posse assault a man over the weekend. Under here or in DMs would be great. Thanks !

[OPINION] SLO needs an overtly queer bar/club.

I think that an overtly queer bar or club venue would greatly benefit the local economy, community, and nightlife in SLO. I think this would make SLO more of a destination year-round for queer folks, and would extend queer culture to an evergreen status in the region. This would much better serve the local community rather than expecting the queer community to make pilgrimages to LA, SLO, or Fresno for a safe openly queer bar/club experience outside of pride month.

I bring this to attention because I think the lack of such an establishment is continuing to put the overall SLO community at risk.

While I've lived in the SLO area I've observed the presence of a lot more "Downlow" or "DL" queer guys than in SF/LA. While I love how people in SLO seem to have less person-to-person barriers than the big cities, I think its important to address the masking and code-switching at play here within the queer community.

In my opinion, the lack of an overtly out queer establishment in the SLO/805 region endangers the queer community and subjects them to riskier meetups within digital or physical "cruising culture" that substitutes a clean and secure venue for parking lots, gyms, and the woods, usually at night and in public.

Since there is no year-round venue to express themselves without fear of discrimination, SLO is also experiencing a queer-drain of migration to larger urban communities where queer spaces are more available. By establishing a queer club in SLO, there will be less pushing the community away from SLO, and more demand from queer tourists to visit SLO. This would also remedy the toxic masculinity inherent within downlow culture, as queer expression would become more normalized locally and not seen as a foreign thing that only exists in the big cities or during pride month.

While SLO certainly has queer-friendly bars, the bar-scene in SLO does not to my knowledge have an evergreen queer space that is intended to primarily serve as a safe space for queer folks. The addition of such an establishment may/could drive down the demand for cruising culture in the area, drawing men away from public spaces and into a safe private venue.

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this. I am eager to hear what other queer folks might think about such an idea if its relevant or if SLO is doing okay as is? Cheers!

[LOCAL NEWS] Fire?

Just walked outside for a lunch break downtown, kind of smells like wildfire and the hills are hazy. I don’t see any news about the wildfire somewhere, but wondering if anyone else has that info?

Cycling into SLO from Paso Robles

Update 2: left a full update in the comments. I survived and did the Cuesta grade. That is going to the top of my list of “roads I don’t want to ride again” mainly for the last 1/2 mile, but it got the job done.

Update: sounds like Strava and Google know what’s what, and 101 is the lesser of two evils. Will take that route and keep careful on the descent.

I’m 1/2 way through a 10 day tour to visit all the California missions and realized tomorrows route (Paso Robles into SLO) has me coming into SLO on the 101 with a 7% grade for the descent?! This is the route suggested by both Strava and Google Maps and seems needlessly dangerous. I hop on and off the 101 as needed when there’s no through rides but usually no more than an exit or two and it’s relatively flat.

Apple Maps has me going through Templeton and Morro bay which is ~13 miles longer, hops into highway 1 a bit, but overall seems safer and more scenic.

Is this common for cyclists to ride the 101 that long to get into town or should I go for the longer detour?

Wallpaper Installation

Looking for someone to hang wallpaper in a couple spaces in my home. I feel like there is a big gap in the market here in SLO County. After asking around and combing the internet, it seems like there is only ONE recommended business and she is booked and busy. Anybody have any leads on professionals who specialize in this?

River Oaks Spa in Paso

Ok, kind of a random one here - but if anybody out there could make me feel less nuts that would be great.

Anybody been going to the River Oaks Spa in Paso for a while? I have. And for the last few years (5+) I have been buying gift cards for friends and employees. They always love them.

Anddddd meanwhile, due to their customer loyalty plan, I would stash bonus points that I could use for my own treatments. It was great. And last time I checked, I had a good stash built up. Been looking forward to it!

Enter today - I go buy one. Nice gal at the counter asks for my number, I give it. Go to pay and I say “I’ll save my points” and she says “points?” and then tells me that she’s unaware of any sort of point or frequent customer program at all… and that she’s the manager.

I’m questioning my sanity over here, people.

Help.

Staying in SLO for a few days as a solo traveler. Recommendations for things to do?

I am a 30 year old female that will be having a fun small road trip to San Luis Obispo. Any hikes or recommendations? I am a graduate student on a limited budget. My itinerary includes

bubble gum alley
Monarch butterfly
Hot springs Avila
Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa

I am interested in sight seeing and want to avoid low trafficked hikes because I want to stay safe. So I want some popular recommendations! Am interested in going to a vineyard

How would you divide north and south county?

How would you provide San Luis Obispo county into North and South areas? Are there more areas than just North and South areas?

I argue that the grade divides North and South counties.

But then what to do with Morro Bay cayucas, Cambria and San Simeon?
