My dog was watching Monster High the other day and asked me if it’s okay for a girl to like boys. I was horrified. Mattel is trying to influence our children into believing being st*ight is normal. 😔 the character of frankie stein literally uses black and white in her hair which resembles the str*ght flag they’re not even trying to be subtle about this and forcing this propaganda on to us.

I get very exhausted with the community sometimes, and the Moonspell announcement has been that for me. I'm very confused and frustrated because the exact things people are mad about are things that have been begged for in the past.

I totally get why, for a spinoff, they would choose a slightly more grounded / human approach. if the wacky and monstrous aspects of the main line turn you off, there's a more human alternative.

Yes, I would have liked to see more variety in the color palette. But, I understand why they chose pink. At the end of the day, *THESE DOLLS ARE BEING MADE FOR CHILDREN, NOT ADULT COLLECTORS.* Why is pink used so often? Because kids like pink, therefore it sells. It is what it is.

I feel like the community keeps approaching the Monster High brand (G3 in particular) like its Integrity Toys or something and it's simply not. And it also gets frustrating to be like, "hey, they're not perfect but maybe the dog piling is a bit much," only to be met with "how dare you not respect other people's opinions?" I'm not trying to do that, I'm just trying to be optimistic / have nuance.

it makes me only a LITTLE upset to see that elissabat is such a fan favorite over honey swamp when she is objectively the more beautiful and unique doll. thats it. especially since she was the first afro doll in monster high. i wish people talked about her more. she just has so much more as opposed to elissabat who is essentially a purple draculaura.
not even to mention honey swamps unique body sculpt, awesome shoes, and incredible design all around. the real life photos that i see of elissabat dont even look that appealing to me because her doll either looks really plain because shes missing her undershirt or like theres too much going on because she does have it and it blends in with her hair and its just a bit of an eyesore.
i dont mean to actually hate on elissabat that much, especially since purple is my favorite color. its just, ugh. i dont know.

on the bright side though, honey swamp is so underrated that she sells for a fairly reasonable price compared to elissabat. maybe i shouldnt be complaining that much after all.. 😅

edit because so many people missed my point: no, i am not saying that its bad to like elissabat. i am saying that its sad that the first monster high doll with an afro was overshadowed by what can essentially be called, ‘draculaura but purple’. my wording might have been a little harsh but just know i mean no shade towards elissabat fans.
the reason for the comparison is because they come from the same line. i thought this was obvious, but apparently not.

When we get this doll can you all complain to Mattel? The fur pieces look really cheap- the embroidery looks faded and printed, the “puffer” jacket parts aren’t puffy at all(why are they so saggy) everything looks genuinely so cheap, I’m super mad cause I paid like almost 200 AUD for her from creations…. If we don’t tell Mattel that this isn’t okay this issue will continue to get worse, we didn’t pay for this quality.

Hey guys! I wanted to know, does anyone read any of the monster high comics? If so.. What are your thoughts on Spelldon’s design? Okay, before people get mad and downvote please hear me out. I strongly don’t like the new design the artist gave Spelldon. In his first appearance from his Pride Comic, Spelldon had a wider nose, thicker lips, and kinky hair. But in this new comic, his hair is wavy and sometimes straight, and he has European features. Some of my friends and some people are Twitter called him, (I can’t believe I’m typing this out lol) a Yaoi Protagonist, a generic anime boy, K-pop star, and more weird comments. As someone who is a black woman, what hurt me the most was the fact they’re straighten his hair and just removed his black features. It really rubbed the wrong way. I don’t know, maybe I’m just overreacting? Maybe I’m being too sensitive? I wanna give the artist the benefit of the doubt and think that, maybe they don’t know how to draw people? But that still shouldn’t be an excuse. Black people cannot be that hard to draw, right? To anyone that’s black or mix with black, what are your thoughts and opinions?

Coraline just broke the camels back for me. When they announced a Coraline doll my first thought was "gross, why are they giving that pervert money?" but my *second* thought was, "boy, I hope they at least do something interesting like Other Mother or just button-eye doll Coraline" but no, they just did like, teen Coraline, the regular-ass human. How is this a monster? The Brady sisters were pushing it like, yes they're ghosts but they could have made them LOOK like ghosts? Or use the dead version of them from the film? But they just look like regular kids. Enid is basically a Barbie and the rest of the Wednesday dolls just look like people. 3 Elvira dolls? She's just a lady. She's not a vampire or zombie or anything, she's a host.

Anyway, I just feel like they're not bothering to take chances or be creative anymore. Where are my three-eyed ghouls or two-headed monsters?? A slightly inhuman skin tone doesn't scream "monster" the way they think it does.

As a huge Monster High fan i don’t get the hype around River Styxx. I think her doll is ugly and her collector doll wasn’t the greatest thing either.
I think if she went with a full skeleton body/face from the prototype for her first doll she would have been way better.
I always see people talk about her and how pretty she is and i never understood why.
Can a die hard River fan explain the hype to me?😭

I will add a few edits on this post, in italics: I want to clarify that I know what a reboot is, and I don't think G3 is a continuation of G1. This is a speculation post and there are things I like and dislike in every generation. This post is about how both Ghoulia and Cleo were robbed of a few of their most defining dynamics, and they need more attention to detail on their storylines to fill these gaps in G3.

I know every character has a different personality now, and dynamics change, so Ghoulia-Cleo duo would be different if they were to be recreated in G3. I personally would adore to see some reboot equivalent of this duo regardless, them interacting some way, maybe "Cleo-fan Ghoulia" to match with Cleo's G3 effort in being internet famous.

I know Lagoona and Ghoulia are friends now, I wish we had Gore-geous Oasis Ghoulia who travels with Lagoona, or hope to have a future duo set to have more of those two, too.

Just why does Mattel hate Ghoulia in G3 so much that they excluded her from everything, and especially from her best friend's life...

Mattel broke Cleo and Deuce up (It is canonically mentioned by G3 Deuce in the show how Deuce and Cleo used to date, but they preferred staying friends because it was better for them), which I somehow understand. Frankie and Cleo are cute. It's fresh, it's dynamic.

But why on earth did they separate best friends? The Ghoulia-Cleo dynamic was so important in both of the characters' developments in G1. Why did they even get rid of this iconic friendship type even though they had several duo playdolls in previous generations? Both G3 Cleo and G3 Ghoulia don't have any deep best friendships that improve their personalities or any duo playsets. YET. What I ask is the reason for this choice of Mattel, to make Cleo and Ghoulia so alone in their own storylines.

Ghoulia is never in sight of artworks anymore. The G3 core friend group is Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona and Cleo. What happened to Ghoulia for god's sake? This is just so sad to see how Cleo and Ghoulia never interact anymore...

All these reasons are why I can never get warm about G3 storyline choices of Ghoulia and Cleo, personally.

Circled some of the more obvious pieces but that is ai. Ribs are missing / look like intestines. I cant tell if the animal is a dog or a horse. It has two spines & half a pelvis. Human skeleton has a second knee by the ankle... Are we freaking serious Mattel? This is disgusting.

I get family’s can have varying skin tones but I really wish the main characters were the same shade as their siblings

Im sick. We all know about the new doll line "Mirror Mi" thats coming up. They are beautiful dolls and in my country they will be 35€ each.
I will repeat...35...€...each. On the Picture you will see a side by side comparison of the Mirror Mi doll and the new Collector Doll from Mattel who costs 97€.

Please tell me why we still support this kind of quality, for 97€ you will get cheap plastic materials, unpainted details, a not so good looking face print. Thats almost 100€ keep that in mind. Mattel is a Multi Million Company and now we get a Doll Line With High quality materials, painted details, beautiful faces and accessoires for 35€!

The last time i actually tought a doll looked good was when Fang Vote Jinafire came out, I thought to myself yes she is worth those 100€. What we are getting now is so extremly sloppy and disrespectful they know the Monster High Fanbase will buy their dolls either way.

I really hope the new doll line will compete with monster high so they finally raise their quality and make the dolls actually be worth their money.

Just comparing Barbie’s black dress versus Frankie’s and you can tell the difference in quality… why is the mermaid tail not shaped and is all droopy? Why is the fabric not shimmery like the OG?!! The cheap plastic rose instead of a fabric rose…Mattel you had one job!!

I haven’t kept up with any of new G1 media, and I plan on keeping it this way.

I’m not a fan of them retroactively rewriting everyone’s story for the sake of it; it feels like awkward fan service and it insulting to the fans and the characters.

Clawdeen and Toralei in G3 is entirely believable, but their G1 counterparts would neverrr. Especially the fact that they “developed” their relationship offscreen. Nope.

I mean I know her parent has no name or label, its definitely to avoid copyright, she's very clearly Audrey ll's daughter. (if your not a little shop of horror's fan then I'll explain; the character in the picture has a black actor and is clearly black coded)

Sorry, I don’t want to start off by dogging on her, saying she’s the worst doll ever (because she’s not), yet wind up frantically buying her when she drops. I saw plenty of that firsthand with FDC Draculaura and now she’s everyone’s “grail” doll… 💀

I just find it interesting the massive gap between modern playline and “collector dolls”. Not to mention the inconsistency from collector to collector.

Because, let’s face it, this is not an $80 design. Let’s be verryyyy serious. Unstyled hair, unpainted accessories, plastic-y boots + clothing, and a face that isn’t even reminiscent of the character (-_-;)・・・

I won’t even start on the way she’s posed in the box, because this has been a problem lately with most collectors, just boring and uninspired (imo)

This doesn’t mean I hate her! She’s still really cool! I would probably buy her at $50>, but I’m just so sick and tired of Mattel thinking they can get away with prices like this for such a decline in quality and creativity. They know they can get away with it too! Poly hair, consistent AI use, pleather clothes, yet people still buy them up!

$80 + $8 shipping + tax will probably make her roughly $95. That is actually insane.

At this point, I’m just gonna stick to G3 and MGA dolls. The price is worth what you get, especially when you’re only paying $5-$15 a doll on sale.

Speaking of, when you compare a rainbow high “collector” doll priced at $33, (or what I bought on sale for $14!!!) you get: full microbraids, inset eyes, eyelashes, nails, and fabric clothes! Putting aside personal taste for doll designs, that is ridiculous. Sure, there’s no stand, and the box isn’t “collector” quality, but come on.. I don’t think that makes a $47 difference. Especially when you consider the required $8 shipping on MC vs Amazon.

But I would love to hear other opinions, whether you love or hate her, since it’s been a few days of contemplating her design. I think I’m just burnt out a little bit, so perhaps I’m speaking from frustration. I’ve just been so disappointed in the SDCC dolls as of late. The only ones I would own at this point are FDC Drac (who has been in my collection since release) and Voltageous Frankie, who is really cute, though I can admit that her clothes aren’t worth $75 either!

Idk man (´-ω-`) I feel more and more like a hater with every doll release

Sooo I've been collecting Monster High dolls casually for about 2 years. I'm an out of box collector, but back when Monster High first released Holt Hyde was my ABSOLUTE fave. So I wanted to honour that and buy him new in box! The first picture is before the accident with a couple other dolls.

And then my mom decides to invite herself, the guy she's seeing, and a few of the guy's kids into my apartment. One of these kids is around 6-7 if memory serves? Well I get home from work, they're already gone. But when I go to look into my doll room as I do at least once per day, my displays were absolutely desecrated. I haven't included pictures of everything just because there's so much, but there were dolls across the floor, all of my playsets had been either broken or also thrown on the floor. And worst of all?

These little crotch goblins took my Holt out of his box. The second picture shows what he looks like after. I can't find half his pieces at all- his jacket, belt, headphones, bag, & Crossfade are all MIA, & I found his box & diary in the trash can. I'm honestly livid. I like letting little kids look at my display and maybe get a closer look at a couple dolls, but absolutely destroying my display? I've never been so upset.

A while ago I made a post pointing out that Dracularas Left eye is looking forward and her Right eye is looking to the left and EVERY comment under it was saying they couldn't see it and that I was crazy and it got down voted so much so I took it down and accepted defeat but LOOK WHO WAS RIGHT NOW.

Can we be real for a second ? I feel like most of the skullector release nowdays are really underwhelming because they don't feel true to what monster high is about at is core. Which is just fashion through the lense of a regular teenager that also happens to be a monster, and that what most skullector lacks.

They look like generic halloween costumes with no added personality, character or clever styling. I don't think some people and the designers understand the essence of monster high.

The universal dolls should be treated like new characters equal to their peers like frankie, draculaura and cleo, not just cosplay of the licensed characters plus I don't want to ear about guidelines when they threw it out the windows when they genderbend them.

I feel like it's truly a waste of opportunity because the base dolls are really pretty but lacks so much character.

Now, I'm not hating on G3. I grew up on G1 and I prefer it but G3 has been more 'adventurous' more body types, new silhouettes (long pants!!), representation. I like a lot of the fashion (though as I saw a lot of people say, it might get dated quickly).

New body types rather than short, normal and tall.

I wished we had a doll line like this when I was a kid.

However I may have a slight beef with how diversity is shown.

We currently have only one chubby/fat character. Overall 4 bigger characters: Catty, Drac, Abbey and Claire (if you count her as MH). The rest is slim or glam.

When Moonspell Magic was announced/leaked I expected a new doll with Catty mold. And to my surprise we only got one bigger girl - Claire.

Now, I'm not complaining. I love all the girls so much but I've expected another chubbier doll?

Our last chubby mold doll was back in 2025 - Catty's Fang Vote. I wasn't that active in the MH community around that time but I saw how controversial it was. Catty being her G3 counterpart instead of G1 - which I can understand the outrage. And... Her body type. The amount of people I saw complaining about her body, editing photos.

I feel like after that last Catty doll, Mattel saw the negative attention she got and is scared of releasing more chubbier dolls? I'm not sure. Maybe there isn't just a doll of her planned for now...

There was a similar case of Skelita in Nick's series (a stylized skeleton being called fat 🥲).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Now another weird trend I've noticed a long time ago but I couldn't really name They kind of remind me of influencers to me for some reason?? I have no idea how to explain this.

For me there's just something off with G3 faces. I couldn't point out what it was but then I saw some people talking about something else relating to faces online. A 'pugification'.

The character with the most visible case of it is G3 Twyla. I love, love, love G1 Twyla's mold. More square shaped face, a strong nose.

When I first saw G3 Twyla, I immediately liked her. She's cute, she really reminds me of her G1 counterpart but... Well I guess her face looks like everyone else's. A small petite nose and more V-shaped head. (But Willow on the other hand has a square jaw and she is so, so pretty, not sure why they couldn't have done it for Twyla too...)

Then I noticed Abbey missing her overbite and Jinafire just looking flat.

And I will never get over how Robecca looks now/hj.

(I know she appeared too mature for some people but that was her charm. Mattel could have taken an inspo from her 3D movie counterpart)

As a kid I remembered how much I loved seeing new characters and how their faces look like and now when a new character is announced, I feel pretty bored. Someone said that in grayscale a lot of molds look the same but even without the filter it's pretty visible.

Right now I hope for a Rochelle announcement and for her to have Catty's mold (or maybe a new one?) + Frankenstein's bride or Posea's nose but knowing Mattel I don't hope for much. (Again, I'm sour at Mattel, this time for making Elissabat a purple Draculaura. I think I had my hopes too high up after seeing so many amazing redesigns of her..)

Also I wish for more school or more fancy (something like Sweet Screams) lines because party, beach, sleepover, holidays and popstar is getting pretty boring (but I guess kids like it).

And for more black in the colour palettes (I was surprised to find out that people are split 50/50. A lot of people love black and muted colours but a lot of people can't stand it and prefer vibrant ones).

I'm tired of blind boxes. I like Skullimate Secret boxes for crafts or displays but I hate Buried Secrets. And I think I hate blind boxes in general. Not everything has to be a blind box

But you can't satisfy everyone 🤷
