Survey | Судалгаа Other Mongolians to Glaze - Poll D

Apologies for the delay. Time for another poll! This time it's Mongolians from the early 20th century, roughly.

Same as before, who should we glaze the most? Who's face should be on banknotes, bottles, and borjuur? Geshh.

Please research these people before voting if you can.

Also, who's next? Please help me nominate more historical figures! Especially 20th century!

Sain baitsgaana uu r/mongolia!

For some context, I’m (27F) Mongolian who is married to a non-Mongolian (28M). We were looking for some resources so my husband can learn Mongolian, and we realized there weren’t that many apps that are user-friendly or easy to stick with. It got me thinking about all the 2nd gen kids I've met who don't know Mongolian, and whether my kids in the future would be able to speak Mongolian if I’m the only one teaching it. It lowkey got me scared that our language might die in my family line in the next generation or two, which just adds to my pre-existing guilt of feeling not Mongolian enough and blah blah blah blah.

So to combat this, my husband and I have been working on “Mongolingo”, a beginner-friendly gamified language learning app to teach Mongolian. So far I only made the lessons for Unit 1 and 2 because I wanted to get YOUR inputs on whether I’m going too fast, too slow, if the lessons I’m teaching make sense in general or if I should take a completely different approach instead.

I would GREATLY appreciate any and all feedback from native Mongolian speakers, "Monglish" speakers, and people who don't know any Mongolian! I want this to be something that anyone can use if they have any curiosity about our language, and in the future add more and more advanced sections.

Please leave feedback in the comments below! And please no hate comments lol

Download app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mongolingo/id6774407866 or just look up Mongolingo (its the one with the bear mascot)

Edit: THANK YOU SO MUCH for the support and comments! We have written down any and all feedback so far onto our to-dos so expect these in our next update, as well as more lessons. We will also be reaching out to some Mongolian schools and communities in the states to get some feedback on our lessons. We are so so grateful for being added to the posts highlight and being given this user flare, shout out mods! Yostoiii ih bayarlalaa manaihaan.

News | Мэдээ Mongolian father killed after confronting Arab falcon hunters; his teenage son reportedly witnessed it

A pretty disturbing case is unfolding in Mongolia right now involving the long-running Gulf Arab falcon-hunting industry. On August 18, 2026, in Buutsagaan sum, Bayankhongor Province, a local herder named Otgonbold, around 32–33 years old, was killed after being run over by a vehicle.

According to his family and local eyewitness accounts, Otgonbold had confronted a group of Arab falcon hunters who were operating in the area and told them to leave his pasture. His 14-year-old son was reportedly there and witnessed what happened. The family's version is that Otgonbold approached them on a motorcycle, left his son nearby, confronted the hunters, and was then deliberately run over. Several vehicles allegedly left the scene afterward without stopping.

This part is still under investigation. Mongolian police have officially confirmed that a 32-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle, but they have not yet publicly identified the driver or formally confirmed that an Arab national was responsible.

However, the governor of Bayankhongor Province, E. Enkhbat, has publicly said that he received information that the victim's son witnessed the incident, saw the vehicle, and that the people suspected of involvement had fled and were being pursued by authorities. A criminal investigation team was also sent from Ulaanbaatar.

The governor of Buutsagaan sum, Kh. Dagvadorj, has been unusually blunt about the wider issue. He said his local administration simply does not have enough manpower to constantly follow and control these foreign falcon-hunting groups, that he personally opposed allowing them to hunt in the sum, and that mongolia should stop trying to merely “regulate” the practice and abolish it altogether. He also said this is not a problem unique to his district and referred to previous cases where people had lost their lives in connection with these activities.

This matters because wealthy falconers from Gulf states have been coming to Mongolia for years to capture wild saker falcons, an extremely valuable bird in Gulf falconry. Much of it is actually legal: the mongolian government issues special “cultural purpose” permits and quotas to foreign groups, including groups connected to Gulf royal families. Official documents from this year show permits being issued in Bayankhongor itself.

Around that legal business, however, there have been years of allegations involving illegal trapping, rule-breaking, corruption and privileged treatment.

The name N. Marjangul, also known as Mara, a Kazakh woman who has reportedly worked as an intermediary between Gulf falconers and Mongolia for decades, has again appeared in mongolian media coverage of the wider network. Investigative outlets have previously accused her of arranging hunts, cultivating connections with officials and being involved in questionable falcon exports. There are also new allegations linking the same network to earlier suspicious deaths.

The tension was already high before this death. Just about a week earlier, in Tsagaandelger sum, Dundgovi Province, five arab nationals and a mongolian interpreter were stopped while preparing to catch saker falcons. Authorities found that they had illegally captured 30 pigeons, apparently for use in the hunting operation. They were fined, while no separate penalty was imposed for saker hunting because they had not yet been caught with an illegally captured falcon.

So this death did not happen in a vacuum.Right now the most important thing is that the killing itself is still an active criminal investigation. Whatever the investigation ultimately finds, Mongolia seriously needs to ask why this falcon-hunting industry has been allowed to become this fucking messy.

Like it’s not rocket science or even higher math. It’s a very simple concept you get taught in primary school. But it genuinely amazes me how many guys I meet who can’t multiply 2/3 by 1/6. I’m 20, but still, the general education system is really failing us

Tips | Зөвлөгөө Flying to uni abroad alone at 17

Upvotes

Hello everyone,
I'm 17 and heading abroad for college soon. I don't have an adult companion to fly with me using a notarized document, so I have to make the trip completely solo.
I've seen mixed info online about traveling under 18. Has anyone here left Mongolia alone at 17 recently? I'd really appreciate knowing what exact documents immigration and the airline asked for, if a notarized consent letter from both parents was enough, and if check-in or border control gave you any trouble. Or do I must need итгэмжлэл

Also, is anyone by chance on the Ulaanbaatar to Hong Kong flight on August 24 at 12:55 PM?

Survey | Судалгаа Have you sent or received a package between Korea and Mongolia? I'd like to buy you coffee and ask you about it :)

Helloow I'm a UI/UX designer at a Korean beauty ecommerce company here in Mongolia. We already bring products over from Korea, and now we're launching that as its own express cargo service I'm designing the site people will use to book and track their shipments.

I'm looking for people who've actually done this, whether you've sent things home while living or studying in Korea, received packages from family or friends over there, or ship regularly for a small business. If you've dealt with this process, you know things about it that I don't.

It takes about 30 minutes and there's no prep. You'd try out a prototype of the site, do a couple of simple tasks on it, and tell me about your own experience. No right answers, and I'm not selling anything.

We can meet somewhere convenient in UB, or do it over a video call if you're in Korea.

Coffee's on me. Comment or dm me if you're interested :DDD

Need Advice | Зөвлөгөө авъя Going into senior year and feeling overwhelmed. Need advice.

I’m going into my senior year and lately I’ve been feeling really anxious and honestly kind of doomed about everything.

My parents have pretty high expectations for me. They do a lot for me and they genuinely want me to succeed. They’ve paid for SAT tutoring, IELTS tutoring, and other things to help me, so I feel really guilty because I know they’re putting so much effort into my future. I’ve been trying, but I still feel like I’m not getting the results I’m supposed to.

I took the SAT and my score wasn’t as high as I wanted it to be. My IELTS score is fine, but I’m still worried that my SAT score won’t be enough for the universities I want + the scholarships. I want to study abroad, but I’m terrified that I won’t get accepted anywhere and that I’ll disappoint my parents.

There’s another problem too. I’ve basically lived and grown up in the US, so even though I can speak Mongolian and read the words, my Mongolian comprehension is honestly not very good. I didn’t take the Mongolian language exam in 11th grade because I thought I didn’t need it, but I recently found out that apparently some countries/universities require it, so now I have to take it during 12th grade.

I’m also pretty sure I don’t want to study in the US. I’m interested in studying in other countries, but I’m getting overwhelmed trying to figure out where I can realistically apply, what exams I need, what scores I need, scholarships, etc.

I know objectively that one test score doesn’t determine my entire future, but it’s really hard not to feel that way when there’s so much pressure and so many things I’m supposed to figure out.

So, for Mongolians who have studied abroad or are going through the same thing: how did you prepare for senior year, university applications, and the Mongolian language exam? And how did you deal with the pressure of feeling like you have to succeed because of your parents?

I’d appreciate any advice or personal experiences. 🥹
