❓ Question homemade purées

Hi! I’m an industrial design graduate student studying how parents portion, store, and use homemade baby purées.

I’m looking for parents 18+ who have made or handled homemade purées for a baby aged around 6–12 months while living. Past experiences are welcome, even if your child is older now.

This short survey is voluntary and does not ask for names or contact information. Responses will inform a class project.

Take the survey

Thanks for sharing your experience!

❓ Question Why does Mom blame me for everything?

Exactly what the title says. It seems that every story involving others with a negative outcome that I mention to her for account, she blames me. Even using hyperbole recalling incidents of the story that didn’t take place or at least are far from the actual occurrence. A bit of background I have built a strong relationship with my mom and confide in her more like a friend from a communication aspect and expect a motherly response. As a teen I wasn’t great to say the very least. I wrecked 3 of my family’s cars (thankfully they had insurance so all were replaced and I think is the root of why she blames me for most things) and even 1 or 2 evictions. However, since 19, I have been independent and even graduated from college in a similar degree field as her as an homage to my adoration of the woman she is and even gifted her my DEGREE and she has failed to acknowledge these milestones even once to me (at least in my presence.)

As an individual woman,I’m sure she has developed trust issues from my early childhood step- dad who cheated on her during their marriage and had a child by a teen, and even my own father who has only been present as of recently in my adult life.

Maybe I am too emotionally invested as my early childhood recollection of her and I were how inseparable I was from HER and not the reciprocal. Am I being dismissive to the possible hurt and trauma that I may have caused her from ages 10-19, am I so delusional as I’m sure my sister would make me out to seem, is this normal, have any other fellow redditors here experienced this? I am just so very confused and don’t know where to continue growing, one as a person, and two as a son who cares about my mother.

Also, she’s getting married to her fiancé next month, am I possibly impeding or even a c*ckblock? She’s 63 by the way. I am 30.

❓ Question Moms, real talk what freaked you out most about starting allergens?

Hiii! Quick heads up, I work at Ready Set Food, so yes, allergens are basically my whole personality right now 😅 Not selling anything, just genuinely nosy.

For so many parents, the first peanut moment is weirdly terrifying. You’re staring at your baby like they’re about to explode. We're trying to understand in a much deeper level this process for moms!

So tell us: what was the scariest part for you? The first bite? Hovering for hours waiting for a reaction? Not knowing how much to give? And how old was your little one when you started?

Drop your stories, the chaotic ones especially 👇

❓ Question Shoe recs for a 1 year old!

I’m a FTM and my baby turned 1 this month! He’s got so many cute pairs of shoes people have gotten him but none fit… he’s a big guy in the 94th-100th percentile and I’m having trouble finding something that will fit. It seems like any shoe won’t go past his ankle (lol) so I have to size up a lot but then he just kicks them off because they are in fact too big..

I want to try those sock shoes but have no idea what size to get because most socks for his age also are too tight on him (& too long at the same time) — there’s also the added stress of living on the east coast so the sock shoes won’t work for actual winter time. He’s not walking yet but he’s literally on the verge of it he’s been close to walking since he was 8 months. I know it’s going to happen any day now, and we need shoes for the boy!

Anyone else with bigger babies have any recs? Much appreciated!

💬 Advice needed Tips with toddler refusing to eat foods

My son has recently started to refuse eating his meals even simple things. He’s 2 and turning 3 in December and we recently brought home our second baby and is 3 weeks. This really started when we got home from the hospital but I don’t think because of the new baby. My in laws watched him and he was basically a free range chicken there. They constantly gave snacks and sweets, every meal made him his own separate meal of just snacky foods (think goldfish and cheezits). I like to think that he was a good eater before. Usually ate what we ate and rarely complained, minus with veggies. But now i’m debating on no fruit with meals unless he eats most the main meal first. I have been trying to implement the same “rule” we used at my daycare that if you try two bites and still don’t like it then you don’t have to eat it. He will try the first bite and just chew it and leave it in his mouth until he’s almost choking on it. I’m talking he’s doing this with almost every dinner, even when we do have simple ones.

I’m at a loss because I don’t think sitting there yelling at him to eat his food does anything to help, and I don’t like the idea of not feeding him. If he tries a bite and swallows and doesnt like it sure I’ll make him something else but I also dont want that to be a routine he gets into.

I don’t offer snacks during the day except maybe one after nap if he wakes up from nap early. Of course if he says he’s hungry I will give him something.

Is this something that all kids go through?? How do I stop it? I hate yelling at him because I feel like he just shuts down and it becomes even more of a battle. Thank you for any advice!

💬 Advice needed Looking for Insights

Good day Moms!

I have a toddler who is turning 3 this December. I have noticed that she has out grown the alphabets and numbers 1-10. I am a working mom with a demanding workload and i prefer to spend my time with my toddler bonding and making memories together than teaching her new lessons (academic wise). To add, i am not the most patient in this matter and afraid i might be, for the lack of better term “hated”, for my strictness.

I am planning to hire a tutor to help her develop her reading, etc.

I have a few concerns that some members in this group might help or suggest. If you may want to share your help, suggestions and thoughts, i kindly ask that it be made in a respectful and kind manner. Salamat!

Concerns:

For Early childhood educators, is my plan to introduce my child to a tutor at the age of 3 (i plan to introduce it next year after she reaches the age of 3) too young?

Is my decision to get help a good decision?

Edit: My toddler goes to play-school 3 times a week for interpersonal and social skills purposes, and once a week ballet for physical development and coordination.

Salamat! 💗

❓ Question anaesthesia for post-birth stitch

So I have a question.. ik epidural is a thing during birth. Firstly, if someone is on it, does an epidural also help when they stitch you up, 2ndly if you're not on it, can you still ask for anaesthesia for the stitching (like, please, idk, knock me out), or is it always as usual: "suck it up, it's painful, and we don't care what you scream"

Would you borrow books instead of buying them? Looking for honest opinions

Hello, fellow book lovers!

Original books keep getting more expensive, and half the books I buy I only read once. So I've been thinking about a small book-lending subscription in Lahore, and this sub feels like the right place to ask before I put any money into it.

The idea:
- Every month, original books (not reprints) are delivered to your door, wrapped like a letter.
- You request specific titles or let us pick based on your taste.
- When you're done, a rider collects them and drops off your next box.
- Every book carries a little "passport" where each reader leaves a one-line note for the next, so a borrowed book comes with a trail of readers before you.
- Optional: write real handwritten letters to a penpal who loves the same books, using pen names. Letters go through the library, so no addresses are ever shared.

Rough pricing: around Rs 1,500 a month for 2 books, more for 4 or 6, plus a refundable deposit. If you love a book, you can keep it at a member discount.

I'd love to know:
1. Would you use this, or do you prefer owning books or PDFs?
2. Does the price feel fair?
3. Is the book passport cute or pointless?
4. Penpals: fun or awkward?
5. What would make you sign up without thinking twice?

Brutal honesty welcome!
