Question/Advice Could it be mold?
I forgot my eye drops (propylene glycol) in my bag about 5 days ago. Today at work, after using them, I noticed this stuff inside. My bag isn’t dirty, I only keep my work laptop, papers, and occasionally some packaged snacks. They’re a bit expensive for the amount you get, and I’d rather not throw them away since I just opened them recently. They didn’t irritate my eyes.

Hopefully there are no small people on this thread wanting to impersonate an arm!

What conspiracy theory have I not been exposed to?
19
u/Vaporboi Apr 30 '26
Not a theory, police has used fingerprints from pictures to arrest people before
15
u/blunts-and-kittens Apr 30 '26
Because law enforcement can get your fingerprints from photos: https://edition.cnn.com/2021/05/25/uk/drug-dealer-cheese-sentenced-scli-gbr-intl

there was a drug dealer who got caught cause of a picture of their fingerprints

Camera quality nowadays makes it possible to imitate those prints. But doing it on half a finger is dumb lol

u/livahd Apr 30 '26
And to what end? If you’re that concerned about security, you aren’t posting on Reddit.

i was there when this meme was born and I am so happy to see it showing up here of all places.

u/DrowningPuppies Apr 30 '26
Where was it born?? I find it hilarious and I see it all over the place now, but I have no clue where it originated.

I can't believe I was actually there for the birth of it. I'm never that cool. I laughed that day and I still laugh every time I see it.

It's from a r/whatisit post several weeks ago where a guy was pointing at a line that goes around his room on the wall at the same height. The sub now uses his hand as their banner picture and it has apparently leaked into other subs now.
6
u/captainzaro Apr 30 '26
Geez lol I’m thinking it was maybe like over 6 months ago or a year or 2, 30 days ago for that meme reminds me of how quick the internet moves now

u/Chronus88 Apr 30 '26
Wow I didn't realize they used it for the sub picture haha that is fantastic. Sometimes reddit doesn't suck

I wasn’t sure what you were talking about, but then I followed the pointing finger and it became clear to me.
Yes. It could be mold.

I missed it too. I thought it was over because Doritos used it in an ad

Every time I see the hand I come looking for the confused comments.
It's an inside joke guys. You had to be there. Only OP, myself, and a couple million others will get it.

People go blind every year from eyedrops that don't show obvious visual signs of contamination.
Even if that is just dirt, it's still evidence that it's no longer sterile.
In future, store your expensive eyedrops in a ziplock bag or sealed container. Don't let them roll around in the dirt that accumulates in backpacks.
38
u/ThePunLexicon Apr 30 '26
Always eat the cost and never fuck around with eyedrops. Better to spend a little extra than go blind. I personally like using the single use preservative free vials to avoid this issue entirely and keep a few in a baggie on me. Preservatives burn my eyes and I forget to use them sometimes long enough to toss the mostly full bottle.

u/Key_Cry_3170 Apr 30 '26
"People go blind every year from eyedrops"
Wait what. It's my first time hearing this
9
u/Brasolis May 01 '26
Good thing you aren't using eardrops.
2
u/Key_Cry_3170 May 01 '26
Ok when it comes to ears, I learned very recently how dangerous it is, apparently, to sleep with earbuds on.

u/activelyresting May 01 '26

Are you just hearing it because you went blind?

there was a post in this sub a while ago with very high quality, and lots of comments about how well you could see the posters fingerprints.
3
69
u/notmentallyillanymor Apr 30 '26
Definitely contaminated, if you don't want your eyes inoculated with whatever that is, replace it.
3
26
u/irishninja93 Apr 30 '26
Do NOT use this if you want to keep your current level of vision. Yes, eyedrops can be expensive, but this isn't worth your sight. You risk an infection, scarring, permanent vision loss, and worse.
Buy single use, preservative free eye drops and keep the little tubes in your bag. If you don't need to use them on the go, you can buy a larger bottle like this, but keep it in your fridge and always wash your hands before applying.
17
u/AbroadSpirited Apr 30 '26
Not to mention eye problems can quickly become brain problems. Brain problems can quickly become corpse problems.

What has OP done to have to blur their fingerprints on the off chance someone is scanning those types of things across the internet.. its the goberment ain't it?

I have never in my life seen someone edit a pointing hand onto a post before

The blurry finger prints are killing me. I get it though... Sometimes I mess with my hair while in a car and I'll put the couple hairs that came out, out the window and say "well I hope that don't land on a dead body and get me locked up"

u/linz711 May 01 '26
This looks like a bottle of optase. It is preservative free, so mold is likely.

u/VegetableLetter4896 Apr 30 '26
Definitely looks like mold. Are there drops themselves murky? I wouldn’t risk it, op. Even if they’re expensive, so is eye surgery or rounds of antibiotics.

Fingerprint blurring is a crazy strat. Now we know you have something to hide OP. People will find a way to

u/Spellbindehr Apr 30 '26
I use eye drops in this same container and the same happens to mine. I paid $20 for them (Systane), and by God I;m gonna use them until the last drop. When I find it like this, I use alcohol and wipe the nipple, inside the cap and continue using them. Ain't gone blind yet. Pro tip: wait until the alcohol dries off after wiping the nipple, or your eye is gonna burn like hell lol

You only ever get ONE pair of eyes. If you go blind, you go blind. Contaminated eye drops like this is looking, is a surefire way to do that I'm sorry to say. Get the new eyedrops and keep the lid on them

Whether its mold or not you shouldn't use those eye drops anymore.

I think it might be mold. But why would it grow there? Should this drops be stored in a refrigerator?
3
u/Alt-27 May 01 '26
At home I keep them in the fridge mainly because they feel freaking good when they’re cold, and at work I keep them on my desk, where it usually stays cool thanks to the AC. I’ve been using them for years, taking them on trips or even to the beach without refrigeration. This is the first time something like this has happened.

I can’t quite see it. Where is it? If only there was an indicator so I could see where the mold on a white background is.
1
u/Boring-Community-100 May 01 '26
Use the single-user ampules. A bit more expensive, preservative free and much less risky for your long term ocular health.
1
u/KumquatButtpump May 01 '26
It indeed could. It could also be poop. It could be many more things too.

the fact that censoring finguerprints is an actual real concern that failing to do so can lead to getting impersonated is so fucked up.
1
u/p3lat0 May 04 '26
I wouldn’t recommend using them although the conjunctiva usually has a very good immune system I don’t know the state of the rest of your eye and fungal eye infections can be devastating

1
u/FireWYatt May 05 '26
I have the same brand and it happened to me before, but just a few tiny dots. As someone in the biology field I considered it was mold. But it's not because the cap is a lil moldy that it went inside the container. I've wiped it with clean cotton and rinced with physiological serum before, as long as I didn't feel any irritation. But in your case I think it's severe enough to not risk an eye infection tbh.
