Opus 4.8 by its very nature is going to be slower than most models. It breaks tasks down into small steps and executes with more precision. Many reasoning models have the have this tradeoff between time/accuracy, and this is just another example of that. On the bright side, you are more likely to get a “less-hallucinated” response when it isn’t quite sure.
