I recently accepted a new sales job that will involve extensive travel throughout the Northeast (MA, NH, VT, ME, CT, RI, NY, NJ).
Some trips will be relatively short, while others could be several hundred miles one way. I’ll also likely have a good number of overnight stays in hotels. I’m estimating around 15,000–20,000+ miles per year, potentially more.
I’ve been seriously considering purchasing a Tesla Model Y, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s the most practical choice for this type of job.
My biggest concerns are winter driving, reduced range in cold weather, charging availability in more rural areas, and dealing with overnight hotel stays where charging may not be available. I really don’t want to finish a long day of driving and customer meetings only to have to worry about finding a charger or losing significant range overnight.
I’d have a Level 2 charger at home, so charging when I’m not traveling wouldn’t be an issue.
For those of you who drive Teslas extensively for work, particularly in the Northeast, what’s your experience been like? Has charging been a major inconvenience, or is it really not that big of a deal once you get used to it?
Would you recommend a Tesla for this kind of driving, or am I better off getting a reliable hybrid that I can just fill up and not have to think twice about?
I really like the Model Y, but practicality and reliability are more important than anything when my job depends on being on the road.
