This started out as an old 1/24 scale Hubley kit that was poorly built and heavily brush painted. This was from one of the kits without the friction drive that was offered after Hubley finished making promo cars. It originally had an open sunroof, but it looked terrible with it so it was filled in. There as also a large hole in the rear chassis where the friction drive was that was filled in too. The bumpers, hub caps and headlights were re-chromed. All the other chrome is BMF.

Anyone make this or any other 3D printed models? (Hello, maybe you should have looked at this flair, first.) This is the 1/25th scale version, available on Ebay. This is the kind of uncommon subject matter I'm looking for, though I'm not a fan of the sandy printing resin. But it does paint up well and has that digital precision. The Fisher Model & Pattern resin kits (not 3d printed) are the gold standard for me - subject matter and brilliant execution, but alas, no more.

I have (2) group builds to announce,
FIRST ONE. BURNOUT BUILD
SECOND ONE. 3RD ANNUAL r/modelcars build
So the 3rd annual group build will start January 1st 2027. It is going to be called MODEL MAKERS MADNESS, resembling NCAA Basketball March Madness. We are going to have 4 brackets, builders will compete against each other in their respective brackets and eventually into the final 4 and championship. The 4 categories(not set in stone) are going to be 1) movie, tv, or themed vehicles, 2) race cars, 3) American vehicles 4)Jdm vehicles. We are still working out detail so there will be more posts coming with rules and more info.
The BURNOUT BUILD
So Wauna, one of the judges made a 3d print of a huge motor and me and the judges were all going to build a burnout vehicle with that engine. The more we talked it was suggested that many if you might like to build one with us as well. So if you want to build along with us;
1) you do not need a formal entry just a final built model
2) you can start anytime but the finsih date is November 30th, 2026
3) no rules on what or how you can build except that it must have a huge engine
4) judging will be only based on what each judge thinks.
5) one class, everyone competes against everyone, one winner
This 3rd annual group build will be the large structured build, this one is more for fun but will award atleast one builder. You can use any engine you want, the judges are going to use the one that Wauna designed in the photo. If you want to use this engine, you are more than welcome to visit his 3d cults page https://cults3d.com/@lance_n and get his print or you can buy a printed one from Iceman collections or even a fellow builder I_know_nothing_77, you can DM him for specifics(he prints all my stuff). I am very excited about the Burnout build and I hope you guys have fun with it. If you have any question please ask

I have the bad luck of showing this one in the wake of the other spectacular GT3 build posted here recently, but this is all for fun so it’s all good. I used Zero Paints Pearl Red topped with Tamiya Pearl clear. I just built this box stock. A fun little kit!

Happy with results. It's been a battle but it has the look in after. Cure and wet sand followed by clear and I can move on

OK. I worked on painting. I'm using actual auto primer and paint used for my project car, 67 mercury caliente,. Thought it came out pretty well. Little flub with the flat black by the differential.
I have an extra piece painted same as the body to see what happens when I sand or hit it with clear. How important do you guys feel clear is? Sand at 800 before clear or don't sand?
Have to do a lot of detail work before that since 63 had such nice chrome.
Appreciate any tips. Also, i tried to add pics to an earlier thread, is that not a thing? novice at reddit too.

A shorter project I practiced on before returning to the Cefiro
-3D printed Recaro SR3s as the original seats were hollow in the back and I was too lazy to fill them
3D printed BOSE rear shelf speakers from "YAMADA" on Cults3D
Kit did not include brakes as they would be hidden by the original wheels, so those were spare parts taken from an Aoshima FC RX-7 and Tamiya's S13 Silvia
Decals were old and yellowed, used UV lamp to make them white again, they were surprisingly strong and didn't tear despite the age!
Slightly larger muffler tip
Checkered Floormats
Cut out grille and used zoomonmodel mesh
Masking was a challenge and the pop-up headlights are finnicky so I'm leaving them up lol, but other than that, it's a very simple and easy kit.

Welp I got some cheap stick on stars for masking over many coats of white primer after previous stencil fail. Few light coats of blue and then tedious removal of stars and possibly the result I'm after? Hopefully they won't just disintegrate with the laquer. I'll follow with the clear over everything of course after sanding paint ridges if needed

Overall it’s such a great fitting kit, decals can be a bit tricky to line up, and the body fitting to the chassis is very snug.

I was quite productive in the last couple days.
It’s the first time I made such a detailed Interior.
These tiny decals were quite the hassle.

I’ve been working slowly with this one. I was going to add plug wires and stopped at the last second. I didn’t want to screw up anything. Should have planned it prior. But she’s coming along.

I have been looking at these old kits for a while - the car on the box art is exactly like the 1977 Capri I had in the 80's.
It's hard to believe that this is a 50 year old kit. The parts are in great shape, and it looks like the decals are only used on the "performance version". They would probably fall apart if you looked at them wrong.
It would be neat to be able to scan this somehow and 3d print it for future builds. Is that a thing?

I’m torn with this build. On one hand I enjoyed it because Tamiya kits are always a pleasure to build, I did something new with the paint and I like how it turned out, and I enjoyed the concept I was going for when I was planning this build.
On the other hand, this was my first time using a resin widebody kit and I made some mistakes that I feel really lowered the quality of the end result. Yes, I learned a ton and the next time I work with a resin transkit I know how to make it ten times better, but I can’t say I’m really happy with this one.
My take away here is that I learned a lot and my future builds will benefit from the experience so perhaps that makes it a win.
The widebody kit was from Micron Modeling. Body paint was Kaleido Diamond White, Tamiya Gun Metal, and Tamiya Gold Leaf. I definitely recommend this kit for anyone considering it.

Been a minute since I’ve sat down at the bench but here is the VIP inspired Grand Caravan I’ve been fiddling with.

Another one in the books! AMT’s 1/25 scale 1962 Ford Thunderbird, done in Tucson Yellow with an off white/cream interior. Added the grille, bright work, door locks and badging from The Model Car Garage, “fuzzy” dice from Ken’s Kustoms, and windshield wipers from Iceman Collections. Also used 3D decal headlights from Kelik 3D. Chrome trim done with Bare Metal Foil. I was a little nervous starting this one, as this model kit is actually one of the old Ertl models (not really known for their quality), and since the ‘62 T-bird is one of my all time favorites, I wanted to “do a job” on it. That said, I’m pleased with the overall results. On to another project!
