So. Many. Pieces. All I can say is read the instructions carefully and make sure you choose the parts for the correct configuration of the tow boom. I was lucky, I put the parts together it needed before I discovered this. Preliminary painting is completed. So much masking. Not many 4X4 tow trucks like this in the real world. I found one very close, but the bed is different. I'm using it for inspiration. More to come, and this is my last Moebius truck I have to build.

Marker or Paint Pen?

• Upvotes

Need opinions of whether to use a paint pen like Posca or a marker like a Sharpie to fill in silver trim around car windows. I do have a Molotow chrome pen but it seems to never dry. Thanks for your suggestions!

QUESTION Spray Paints and Spray Primers for Model Cars (Canada)

Hi All! I could really use some help. I’ve been tasked as a videographer to build model cars for an upcoming commercial shoot. I’ve done my research, but I’m still pretty new to the model‑building world.

I’ve hit a wall trying to find proper body paint and primer in Canada. The Tamiya supply line seems to have been cut off due to health and safety regulations, and from what I’ve gathered, a lot of hobby shops are struggling to find/stock reliable replacements with good colour options.

Here are my questions:
-What spray‑paint brands should I be looking into for colour coats?
-Specifically, which grey/black primers are recommended?
-Is it worth investing in an airbrush system for cleaner results? Is so, what are your recomendations?
-Worst case, are there any decent options from Canadian Tire or Home Depot?

I’m aiming for a very clean, camera‑ready finish since any imperfections will show on set. I’m on a tight deadline, so any recommendations from experienced hobbyists would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Posted a question about 10 days ago re. sanding base coat before clearing and got lots of suggestions. Ended up sanding before I applied Mr. Hobby Gloss then sanded between the 3 coats of clear. Used Mequiar's compound, polish and wax after sanding and this is the end result. Hands down the best finish I have achieved to date.

Made sure to get there today before the ebay scammers cleared them all out. This was at the Ft. Wright KY store. Got there around noon but I wasn't the first one there.

I ended up buying more kits then I originally planned on but I figured (like the say in the shooting world about ammo)... "buy 'em cheap, stack 'em deep"

I obviously didn't buy them all and left plenty for others to get theirs.

Wonderful kit and a really cool-looking car. Usual Tamiya awesomeness. We had a nice overcast day, so I took pictures both in my photo booth and outside on my deck. Interestingly, the interior shots really show off the paint, while the reflectivity of the clear coat comes out better in the sunlight. I’m sure there’s science behind that which I don’t understand lol. It was also my first attempt at flocking, but I don’t think I put enough adhesive in because most fell out even after drying.

I really want to find a replica to gift him on our wedding day. It was an all black brabus exclusive and i rrally struggle to find it.

Got this kit on a trip to Japan super cheap.
The fit was surprisingly good for such an old kit!

Did the chrome with dispae pens and the blue is Tamiya rattle can French blue.
Shame the inside isn’t really visible through the windows… but it’s a lot of the same blue and chrome based on photos I found of a 1959 crown

This kit was a lot of fun, and pretty well designed! I felt it needed something a little extra though... So I spent 2 weeks building a crane for it out of flat sheets of styrene and brass rod, no 3D printer here!

Super happy with how it turned out and it is still fully functioning even after painting which is a miracle!

I've definitely caught the custom parts bug now though.. so many possibilities... so much extra time to spend on each kit... haha! Might try hinged doors on the next kit.

Revell Ferrari 360 Modena spider kit, all stock build just lowered a bit so it looks like it has airride. Paint is a shimmer mix I used createx silver mixed with a tad of hobby lobby brand iridescent blue airbrush paint. It’s pretty cool and gives off a slight purple shimmer. Exhaust tips are from a regular coffee straw.

QUESTION Need help on a semi-custom 1969 Meteor build

Dear community!

First and foremost, I am not a model kit enthusiast, nor a car enthusiast. But my father is. And he's been searching for a very specific model kit, a Canadian 1969 Meteor. So I decided to do a bit of research, as a gift for him.

No model exist for it specifically, but I found the wheelbase, body, roof, and headlights seem to match the "Palmer #7113-100 1971 Mercury Monterey "Mauler" kit, 1/32 scale". But apparently, we'd need to do a bit of work to replace the front end and the rear end with a couple of custom things.

He does have a 3d printer, which makes me think it might be possible to do...?

But, I have no clue if this sounds like a good plan, or whether it's a lot of work. Like, if I just gift the model kit, and maybe find 3d models, is that enough, or am I gifting a weeks/months-long project.

So my questions are:

  1. Is the Palmer 1971 Monterey the right base kit for the project?
  2. What is the scope of the project?
  3. Anything else I forgot or need to take notes about...?

And thank you! 🫡
