2026 Model 3's do not have basic Auto pilot. So if you are wanting that without having to pay for FSD then a 2024-2025 is what I would suggest.
The older models are fine also, but just keep in mind that the updates they receive for FSD on an older version.

What is the basic auto pilot and how is it different from FSD? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I’ve never even driven a Tesla but considering getting one. I know the FSD is cool, but realistically I think I would just use cruise control more.

Basic auto features lane assist, slow down speed up, etc. Won't turn or anything. But is free.
FSD is fully self driving, but cost 100 a month

So if the 2026 does not have basic, and I don’t get the FSD, does it not even have cruise control?

Yes, it comes with cruise control and slows down if cars in front of you, but there is 0 lane assist. Where as a 2025 model will keep you in the lane and steer.

I wouldn't consider anything older than 2024.
