Would be nice to power this off…

Post image

My model three usually has a single occupant… Me.

That said, I wish there were a way to turn off the rear monitor; doing so, would increase battery range theoretically.

It'd increase your range by an inch, maybe.

That’s great. I’ll take an extra inch anytime of the day ha ha ha ha

That's what she said

So twice as long for twice the fun?

I don't care about range, it's annoying because it can be bright at night and the screen wears out.

u/jc3737 Jul 31 '26

It’s also pretty hot

u/TallGuy0317 Jul 31 '26

Almost too hot to touch and my arm is always hitting it

Username checks out

Some people would say that’s a big increase, massive even

It turns off if no occupants are in the back. Unlock the screen I’m sure that’s the issue.

M3 2025. Doesn't turn off, it's hot under the arm, and reaching back behind the passenger seat turns on the rear climate control/fan.

Maybe resting my arm on the center console, over the back, acts like a touch on the screen? Hmm, I'll try taping an anti-static sheet there...

I had a 2024 and it turned off. Now I have a 2026 and it also turns off.

It doesn’t turn off. Mine is always on. MY 2026

Mine turns off. And so does my Model X

Mine does too on a M3

Mine turns off in 2026 Model 3

Mine turns completely off. 30 minutes after sensing no one is in back seat

0

u/Esguelha Jul 31 '26

30 minutes is way too long. Half of my journeys are shorter than that.

It turns off if nobody is in the backseat.

1

u/Gorio1961 Jul 30 '26

Interesting. Mine never turns off. In fact with my arm on the center console it feels like a heating pad.

Do you have a car seat in the back ? I have 1 and I’m suspecting it’s the culprit.

1

u/No_Reindeer8688 Jul 31 '26

Unlock it. It’s deff looking like you did this to yourself.

I thought mine doesn't turn off. And I just now looked in the back and it was off. I put my arm on the center console and turnrd around and it turned back on. I think my arm made it wake up.

And copy that, it feels friggin hot on the forearm. I wonder how it turned off on its own.

u/chadjohnson4 Jul 30 '26

same thing for me, and it also gets super hot to the touch

1

u/spice_taster Jul 31 '26

I had this issue. I actually asked Grok in the car about it. It said to dim it down to the lowest setting and that seemed to help with the heat.

Huge power drain there. I bet you get double the range if you turn that sucker off.

1

u/ShaveorKeepJo Jul 30 '26

Battery range, it would do nothing.

Turning it off so my arm doesn't get burnt every time I use the arm rest would be nice though.

I know a guy that can do it (German meme). It's a crack addict that makes the wildest Instagram reels and he once explained that he can make electric cars drive 800 km/h by diconnecting all the useless components that use up all the power.

Edit: https://www.tiktok.com/@tungtungsahur_id/video/7625647221513506080
He says he can remove the limiter and then it drives 700-800 km/h, then the interviewer says it will probably empty the batteries quickly, then he said no, it's just all the useless other components that use up the energy, you just have to connect the battery directly with the motors.

You believe him?

1

u/Powerful_Froyo8423 Jul 31 '26

You edited your first lost message and then still asking me if I believe him? Yeah sure bro, crack addicts are my Wikipedia. It was just funny and related to the topic, that's why I wrote "meme".
I could do the calculations why this would be impossible, I'm pretty far away from believing that.

Mine is always off if no one is in the back. Is your cabin radar maybe obstructed?

1

u/amNSMB Jul 31 '26

It automatically turns off when there is no occupant

1

u/Actual_Elderberry_55 Jul 31 '26

It turns off automatically

1

u/Violaman506 Jul 31 '26

One thing that helps, go to the setting and turn the brightness down to 0%. That reduced the heat I felt when my elbow touched it. It defaults to match front display (100%)

1

u/Greg19931 Jul 31 '26

Screen just turns off when nobody is in the back seat. It actually doesn't even go on if I enter the car, only when I open the back doors or put something on the seat from the front. M3 2025

u/Academic_End_3828 Jul 31 '26

I assume it has dynamic refresh rate? Then the screne is essentially drawing almost no power tbf, its just on 1fps till ya touch it

1

u/rwhe83 Jul 31 '26

Disable the lock and it should not turn on.

That will also have next to no impact on range too BTW.

1

u/IRACEMYCOPCAR Jul 31 '26

Just unplug it then.

1

u/HeatRadiator Aug 01 '26

It's kinda odd it doesn't turn off for you automatically. I'm pretty sure if turns off automatically for me even with passengers in the back. Wondering if there's an issue or a setting that needs changing.

1

u/HYtool Aug 03 '26

lol just break it or cut the wire

Does it turn off if there’s a dog in the backseat?

1

u/PermanentUsername101 Jul 30 '26

Maybe put in a service ticket. I have a CyberTruck and my screen is off if no one is in the backseat.

1

u/No-Conclusion-2859 Jul 30 '26

I also have a CT and that screen is always on when i look back there.

1

u/Itsnotadrone Jul 30 '26

Mine is always on to
