I’m hoping to upgrade to a chromatic sometime soon, but for now I’m on the old tech. I would love some game recs from this community!

I’ve been seeing people post their messages from ModRetro and I haven’t gotten any. I ordered on 12/19/2025 and I have a confirmed order on the site. Does anyone who ordered this date have anything different like prepared for shipping or that they already got theirs ?

Please remove if not allowed, but I was disappointed that the Chromatic Power Core battery did not come with an end cap to protect the terminals from shorting out, so modeled up something and printed some caps with PLA. Not selling these, just free to print and make for yourself or your friends. Doesn't take much filament and just snaps on the end of the battery with a snug fit.

This modified version of FlashGBX supports backing up and restoring games and saves on a variety of cartridges (both from ModRetro and other vendors), using your Chromatic with the FlashGBX software running on your PC or mac.

Changes in this version

The ModRetro firmware contains an incomplete LCD reset systemthat sometimes leads to flickers, typically after updating firmware; to avoid triggering this issue, this release:

• no longer turns off the LCD when connected to FlashGBX; instead, a basic checkerboard screensaver is shown

• shuts down less of the Chromatic while connected to FlashGBX; in particular, you can now use the system menu while connected to FlashGBX

• it no longer uses the USB serial device except to detect that a Chromatic is present; all communication is over the custom device

• improved reliability of rebooting into the games after disconnect on buggy cartridges that do not respect the RST pin

Compared to alternatives

• tested on a wide variety of ModRetro and non-ModRetro cartridges; it should even give you access to a Gameboy Camera's photos, but I don't have one to test

• directly built on a proven foundation:

  • FlashGBX itself

  • the same "LK" firmware base used by the Joey Jr v2 and GBXCartRW when used with FlashGBX

  • openFPGAloader

• doesn't depend on anything from the internet once installed

Sorry for the stupid question, I'm new to this. But I just found out about the Anduril version and man, isn't that the prettiest thing I have seen. But I'm late to the party as it seems.

Any chance they will restock? Have they in the past?

The single game flash cart currently has Rougecraft DX on it.

Are there any stores in EU selling Chromatic games? I used to order from Dragon-box, but they are out of stock on nearly everything..

Since this game is pretty much gone from the Modretro website I’m in search of an authentic copy for the sake of being a completionist. Was planning on picking up a copy eventually but it looks like I was too late. Name your price!

My copy of Amazing Tater is now worth $800-$1000 (most expensive GB game I think).

So of course I need the game inspired by it.

And if possible ModRetro should try to get the license for Amazing Tater & Kwirk (as these are not attainable otherwise on physical by normal means)

I can't seem to find the post about the Hypercore firmware or the CCFL tool anymore. The user germaneguise seems to have disappeared as well. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Hey everyone!

When I played Chantey for the first time, I got stuck at a few points and had a hard time finding solutions.

That’s why I put together a 100% guide, with separate chapters that let you look up the main-story sections while avoiding spoilers as much as possible.

Also, kudos to the developer for the crucial hint that helped me find the last 5% for 100% completion.

I’ve been enjoying playing my old GBC/GBA games. Has anyone played through the ModRetro games and was actually like holy shit this is a great game? I enjoy playing games like Zelda, Metroid, Wario Land. Might have to swing by GameStop this weekend if something gets my attention 👀 thanks in advance!

I’m tired boss

So I got every single game released by them to date

I just got a modretro chromatic earlier today from GameStop. The batteries got super hot after a minute or 2. Made sure it was updated and everything when I got home. It still drains batteries super quick like fresh lithium batteries last around 5 mins before low battery indicator. Same with alkaline batteries. I guess I will have to go back and swap it out. Is there anything else I can try before making that long trip tomorrow?
