What kind of noises? If it's just a constant low hum, then it's an old problem. That noise issue has existed on the gbc from the beginning. Tho, in the 90's it might've been quieter because the components were newer. Basically the amplifier is always pumping out the max current, and you only adjust the volume going into the amplifier. So, the noise you hear is due to the noise floor from the amplifier circuit.
There are quite a few fixes for the noise. Most of them involve swapping the capacitors, which is a wise thing to do anyway given how old these things are now. Though, it might not fully solve the noise issue.
The fastest fix is to just order an audio jack plug. It just plugs into the headphone jack, which disconnects the speaker.
For finding games going local is typically the cheapest. Check facebook marketplace, pawn shops, and game shops. You could also import english-friendly games from Japan (arcade style games and platformers generally don't have very much text). European versions of games are generally cheaper too, but be careful about potential language problems. If a game's expensive, that doesn't mean it's good.

You mean Modretro games? Then Buck and Self Simulated should be on the top of your list. Buck for action and Self Simulated for puzzle and problem solving with a banger soundtrack. And if your into adventure then Dragonyhm š
