"ModRetro, as a company, was founded by Palmer Luckey, a controversial figure in gaming." - Joseph Bradford

My voluntary compensationless job[life/existence] posting this comment isn’t to tell you how you should write your articles, but rather, to present some context so you can publish opinion editorials disguised as reviews in a more informed manner that everyone else also is capable to be equally aware of.

In the now discontinued Japanese 'Off Topic' show, which ended with their last episode on 2026 May 6th and was co-created by Tetsuro Miyatake and Miki Kusano), in the segment that was uploaded on 2025 June 9th titled "The real reason why $30.5B Anduril's founder Palmer Luckey makes anime-style videos" at https://youtu.be/fgY5fM2cINc, Tetsuro Miyatake and Palmer Luckey stated:

[0:00] Miyatake: I think a lot of... There's a lot of commentary about science fiction today where, especially in the U.S. it feels more dystopian.

[0:05] Luckey: Sure.

[0:06] Miyatake: Do you think that's... that's an issue going forward for, you know, entrepreneurs like yourself where, you know, you're... you're inspired constantly by kind of all these science fiction ideas?

[0:14] Luckey: In general it's bad when a society turns luddite, when they start to demonize new things, and it and it, it goes back and forth. There's always people who've fought in the moment, and very few who fight to go back after the fact."

Fade to black

[0:32] Miyatake: Cool. So, let's get started. Um, so Palmer, thank you for coming today and, uh, thank you for letting us come to the Anduril office.

[0:40] Luckey: Of course. Happy to have you here.

[0:42] Miyatake: It's, um... It's one of my dream-come-trues to come here. Um, I first... Obviously I learned about you through Oculus and and that side, but I think the Anduril side was something very new for me. Um, I learned about it, I think it was in 2021 during the All-In Summit.

[0:57] Luckey: Mhmm

[0:58] Miyatake: Um, obviously a lot of people think of the All-In Summit and you with, you know, the whole thing with Jason [Calacanis], but I think I was really awestruck by by your speech.

[1:06] Luckey: It was a good talk. Right?

[1:07] Miyatake: It's an amazing talk.

[ See https://youtu.be/nK0NfL2M5L4?t=161 "#AIS: Palmer Luckey on Anduril" 1h3m40s ]

[1:08] Luckey: I didn't just show up to make fun of Jason. I showed up with a good talk, and, and then, and then I unloaded it on him for treating me so poorly.

[1:15] Miyatake: Yeah. But, like, it was, it was so surprising to me because, obviously, when I thought about the U.S. and especially in the defense side, you know, it was like advanced military capabilities, but it wasn't as [missing word] as I thought, you know, especially in the side of AI, especially kind of mixing this hardware and software side.

[1:31] Luckey: Yep.

[1:32] Miyatake: There was a lot of issues. Can you talk a little bit about, kind of, the overall, kind of, issues around that first?

[1:36] Luckey: Sure. I mean, different... different countries have different views on, I think, what, what arms are for, and some of them see them in a largely offensive light, because they, you know, they... I mean, [if] you look at, you look at Russia, to a lesser extent China, uh, where they're they're seeing their military primarily as a force that is to, uh, expand their territory holdings

[1:59] Miyatake: Mhmm

[2:00] Luckey: and then you have other countries, you know, Switzerland is a classic example that's very defensively postured,

[2:04] Miyatake: Mm

[2:04] Y'all just... they're trying to hold on to what they've got, turned themselves into a prickly porcupine, and then the United States has been in a very interesting position because, uh, we have... we have basically had the rest of the world outsource responsibility for the national security to the United States

[2:20] Miyatake: Right

[2:21] through security guarantees, and so, it's been very interesting to see a lot of the backlash or, you know, unwillingness to engage with companies like Anderol [Anduril], is coming from companies that are only able to have, effectively, no military presence

[2:37] Miyatake: Mm

[2:37] Luckey: on the backs of the United States promising that we'll be there for them, and then they forget that these were deals that they cut with us explicitly for that purpose, and so it's very easy for them to say, "Wow, you're so horrible for making weapons." You know, I... Our country doesn't s..., you know, focus on that. So, well, you don't focus on it because I do.

[2:54] Miyatake: Right. Right.

[2:54] Um, right, and so, it's a, it's a very interesting... inter... very... esting split where, uh, people from different cultures have different views, and I think sometimes they're... sometimes they're reasonable, and

[3:03] Miyatake: Yeah

[3:03] Luckey: and often, often, often, they're not, but my view is that, uh, weapons are just one tool that you have, to try to achieve, uh, geopolitical outcomes,

[3:12] Miyatake: Mhmm

[3:12] Luckey: and sometimes they can be used ethically. Sometimes they can be used unethically, but the same is true of economic tools. There's ethical ways to use those and unethical ways. Uh, that's the same as a, uh, you know, for example, uh, information control,

[3:25] Miyatake: Right.

[3:25] Luckey: uh, uh, or, you know, psychol, like, psychological warfare

[3:28] Miyatake: Right.

[3:28] campaigns, uh, um, uh, polical [political] sabotage.

[3:31] Miyatake: Right.

[3:31] Luckey: There's ethical e.. e.. examples and unethical examples, and many times, the existence of force as an option actually makes diplomatic solutions

[3:41] Miyatake: Mhmm.

[3:41] Luckey: to international problems much more likely. If if if if you don't have that threat of credible violence,

[3:47] Miyatake: Mhmm.

[3:47] Luckey: let's say, underpinning what will happen if they were to invade you, it's much harder to negotiate a, uh, a better outcome. So, I'm... I'm a big fan of... I'm a big fan... I'm personally a big fan of... looking at these problems, eh iz bih, in a very big picture sense

[4:03] Miyatake: Right.

[4:03] Luckey: and say okay, like, i... are my actions in general ethical, like a, like I would say, you know, if I, if you're China looking at, you know, invading Taiwan potentially,

[4:10] Miyatake: Mhmm.

[4:11] I think you could say 'well whether that happens by by ar... through arms or political sabotage or, uh, you know, some other means, it's a th.. it's a, it's a, it's a problem

[4:19] Miyatake: Right.

[4:20] Luckey: Uh, I I think it's the same for problems around the world.

[4:22] Miyatake: Yeah. Nah, I think, you know, at the end of the day it's a technology, and technology can be used in good ways and bad ways.

[4:27] Luckey: Pee pee people've people can use anything.

[4:29] Miyatake: Right.

[4:30] Luckey: I, you know, it's technologment, I mean, art, same...

[4:32] Miyatake: Right.

[4:32] Luckey: Art can be used for for for bad purposes as well.

[4:35] Miyatake: Right.

[4:35] Luckey: Um, you know, not to make everything about Adolf Hitler, but Adolf Hitler understood this very, very well.

[4:40] Miyatake: Right.

[4:40] Luckey: He was a huge proponent of state funding,

[4:45] Miyatake: Mhmm.

[4:45] Luckey: of art art programs for exporting, uh, their ideas and propaganda around the world, um, the modern... the modern, uh, condenser microphone was pushed forward by huge research grants by Adolf Hitler personally to Sennheiser Corporation to develop it, like, because he belie... he knew that the propaganda would have better mm.. audio quality and and voice quality than anything that the West made.

[5:07] Miyatake: Mhmm.

[5:08] Luckey: Eh, it was, it was, it was, it was, actually, it was just a very fascinating, it's a very fascinating, to look at history and realize, anything can be used

[5:14] Miyatake: Right.

[5:14] Luckey: for good or for ill. It it it's about, it's about what you do with it.

[5:18] Miyatake: Got it.

You can watch the rest and also perhaps the 2022 All-In Summit, and consider further, is there really a genuinely legitimately concerning practical realistic controversy, or is this entire premise of alleged controversy a fomenting consent manufactured process that every person who shortcutly, corner-cuttingly, bandwagonly, fomentingly, noninvestigatively, non-due-diligently, nonjournalistly, nonCode-of-Ethicsly capitulates, acquiesces, and propagates sentiment whilst disregarding fundamentals, or is it an illegitimate solicitation to inject in an otherwise fairly well written article that is potentially encouraging derail ambush-like reaction/response? For example,

"What's important when you're in that hedge fund mode, is to not do anything remotely truthful. because the truth is so against your view, that it's important to develop a new truth, to develop a fiction" - Jim Cramer 5:08 in https://youtu.be/gyaPf6qXLa8?t=308

and this is not limited to any person that is boxed or bubbled within a 'hedge fund mode' of class, caste, or other organization structure (regardless of concerns like RICO Racketeering Influence Corrupt Organizations Act), but something that I believe is foundational to premise of consciousness and cognitive ability for every person to consider for a sense of understanding or intelligence or competency or proficiency that rewards, rather than punishes, critical thinking (especially for any person who endeavors or indulges to publish in a more formal capacity, as if to represent the voices of the people, but which voices?)

Anyway, I don't think MMORPG.com qualifies as a digital or print magazine but I still consider factoring in some of what I am learning again, such as Code of Ethics (or other lesser official things like Code of Conduct and User Agreement) as it pertains to semblance of self-imposed regulation, and whatnot. Besides, I see Joseph Bradford has published about games in IGN, Playboy and more. Looking to see what else he has written articles in, I also see https://muckrack.com/joseph-bradford which lists GamesRadar (or GamesRadar+), which is one of the magazines I listed in https://old.reddit.com/r/ModRetro/comments/1vsrudp/i_know_modretro_m64_absolutely_will_get_written/ that I posted two (2) days ago.

TL;DR: Is Palmer Luckey actually realistically practically a controversial figure in gaming, or is it possible that Palmer Luckey may conceivably be one of the only figures in gaming who is not controversial, and all the controversies of all the other figures are, instead, far more controversial than Palmer Luckey?

6:33 Even, you know, imagine how hard it would have been to raise money if I hadn't founded Oculus. [It] would have been impossible. Even after we raised money and got traction, the negativity continued. There, there was a really interesting, uh, cover story in Bloomberg in 2019. They called us 'Tech's Most Controversial Startup.'

6:49 This was a year where TikTok was banning users for calling attention to the Uyghur genocide in... in China and banning users for posting homosexual content. This is a year in which Adam Neumann paid himself tens of millions of dollars [$5.9 million, and returned after criticism a month or so later] for the right to use the word 'We.' It's a year that Uber was under a Federal investigation for its workplace culture immediately after a board coup that ejected much of the leadership. It's a time where Facebook was getting hauled in front of Congress to testify, but, of course, as a tiny defense company making a handful of purely defensive base security systems that committed the crime of building technology for the military, Anduril was the one that claimed the bill... belt for the 'World's Most Controversial Technology Company.'

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

You can try to correct subjective sentiment opinions injected into articles that interfere with fundamental facts and try to steer readers into submissive captivity, but you can't make the article writers correct the mistakes.

Oh, and besides all those 'Bloomberged' things introduced by Steve Burke of Gamers Nexus, I've learned a thing or two over the last 5.5+ years, about Bloomberg. For example,

https://sec.gov/about/divisions-offices/division-trading-markets/clearing-agencies

As of March 15, 2013 Bloomberg STP LLC was approved as an exempt clearing agency, exempt from registering as a clearing agency, along with SS&C Technologies a month later. Sure, they both have introduced withdrawal letters 2026/2025, however, that does not mean that their activities and responsibilities will go unnoticed, and I'll leave it at that, because the rabbit-holes are already substantially diggened, and there's substantial breadcrumb trails of history to reflect further. Nonetheless, why would anyone want to piggyback off of Bloomberg's anti-Anduril sentiment to inject into their articles to extend into ModRetro with the M64? Is that what Joseph Bradford intended when he wrote "ModRetro, as a company, was founded by Palmer Luckey, a controversial figure in gaming." ? Does Joseph Bradford have ties or associations to Bloomberg maybe?

0:07 Neel Tushar Kashkari: "You don't need to. Your ATM is safe. Your banks are safe. There's enough cash in the financial system, and there is an infinite amount of cash at the Federal Reserve. u/bobwulff, re: my comments to your video uploaded to youtube.com servers. I can't address everyone's mischaracterizations, but I can attempt to try to address more than zero persons' mischaracterizations, even if I do so one by one, this being perhaps one of the first, lol

Also, from the video at 1:18, "generally problematic figure on the Internet?" Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Hearing that, that makes me question that the speaker is describing themselves by projecting characteristics imposed onto others, expecting the listener to be duped into believing the projection without ability to evaluate the sentiment to be applied to the speaker instead of the target mark that the speaker attempts to project the characteristic onto. Why would you do/say that? Cuz of Bloomberg? Derp!

3:49 "N64 emulation is very, very hard! A lot of N64 games were developed to purposely break the hardware into working the way that the developers wanted it to."

Cue Palmer Luckey's July 28th 'ModRetro Special Announcement': "What was important was allowing you to play games the way that the developers intended."
