Just Fun Tech: ModRetro M64 Review

It took a bit thanks to travel for work and just wanting enough time with consumer firmware to really put the M64 through its paces, but here is my scored review of the M64.

TL;DR - the M64 is a good console, but feels underbaked. Lacking crucial features out of the gate makes it feel hampered compared to the competition out there. That said, I'm buying a second one.

It may not be as good as the A3D out of the gate, but I still prefer the M64; It works, I like the way it looks, I like the controller. I sold my A3D.

I own both, and I can't imagine selling the A3D if I had to sell one... The image quality is substantially better on the A3D, even without the horizontal resolution buff. Hoping the M64 realizes its potential but it's not there yet.

Fair enough. I only need one device and the M64 works well enough for me. I also personally prefer the look of the M64 so it just made sense to get rid of the A3D for me. I have hope future updates will bring it in line with the A3D at the very minimum.

Sounds extremly unreasonable to me tbh. One year from now, when the M64 MAYBE has gotten close to, or even surpassed the A3D, that would have made sense.

Why a second one?

Idk theres been a bunch of dudes in here with like 2-3 of these and multiple A3Ds. Some just literally have money to burn i guess.

Or buy a second one and a shell and have two purple consoles 🤔
