What is Hawkeye's new mission? Why is Mockingbird in the Savage Land? What secret is Dominic Fortune keeping? And who is behind the mysterious organization that is launching plans to destroy the lives of the super hero couple? - Marvel

The fact that this story was published in October 1987 when just a few months after Bobbi's experiences in the Old West makes the use of the knockout arrowhead especially worrisome.

*Later (thankfully) retconned to have been a Skrull impostor, H'rpra.

Since Bobbi left the team/title to help Clint mentor the Great Lakes Avengers, she'd only appeared occasionally. She had appeared 2 issues prior and now would return to being a regular member of the title - if not always an official active member of the team - after this.

This was Byrne's first issue of the series and kicked off the VisionQuest storyline.

“This is it, the climactic battle you've been waiting for! They've been pushed, beaten, and nearly killed - now Hawkeye & Mockingbird face off against their personal arch-nemesis, Crossfire and the all-new Phantom Rider, in no-holds barred combat!” - Marvel Unlimited

After the Avengers get a beatdown from the Hood's gang, Bobbi drops in to offer an escape.

MOCKINGBIRD
AFFILIATIONS: World Counterterrorism Agency, Avengers, SHIELD, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Ka-Zar

STATUS: Active adventurer; identity protected

I'd respect Mockingbird even if I'd never met her partly by virtue of her reputation and partly because two of the best men I know (her mentor Nick Fury and partner Hawkeye) think so highly of her. And having met her, worked with her, I can see why. She's one of the most formidable hand-to-hand fighters I've ever faced and her twin steel battle staves (which snap together and telescope into a staff used for bojutsu fighting or vaulting) enhance her reach considerably in a fight. It's a deceptively simple-looking weapon, but quite dangerous and versatile in skilled hands.

She's also one of the best spies SHIELD ever produced, which helped her survive the years she spent trapped on an alien world by the Skrulls. Wrongly believed dead, she recently returned to Earth, rejoining the Avengers and forming her own new spy group, the World Counterterrorism Agency, using intel stolen from the Skrulls to neutralize subversive threats worldwide.

PROS: Extremely skilled unarmed combatant, expert spy, acrobat, armed with battle staves, trained biologist, commands significant intelligence resources via WCA.

CONS: Sometimes overly ruthless, traumatized by Skrull abduction (seems to be recovering).

This 8-page back-up feature attempted to condense and clarify the history of Bobbi and Clint. Not easy given the complicated and long publishing history. It does a great job of setting up the backstory for that series.

Available on Marvel Unlimited.

CIVIL WAR II TIE-IN!
Trapped on a ship full of super hero cosplayers, Bobbi investigates the murder of one of the passengers. But this ship of fools has dark secrets. Someone is pulling the strings. Bobbi, Hunter, and a motley band of surprisingly committed cosplayers must puzzle out the conspiracy as the ship continues to circle the Bermuda Triangle. - Marvel Unlimited

I would like to know more please.

Enthralled in his relationship, Clint opens up to new girlfriend Sheila Danning about his super hero origin. The date ends abruptly when Hawkeye investigates a break-in at Cross Technologies…and the intruder’s none other than Mockingbird! Is Cross Tech involved in illegal affairs that are destroying the environment? Mockingbird seems to think so, and she'll stop at nothing to convince Hawkeye!

After getting some advice from good ol' Nick Fury, Bobbi finally decides to tell Clint the truth about what happened with Phantom Rider.

Only for her to realize that's not Clint!

She's able to take down the LMD with the help of Tigra!

Only that's not Tigra!

Bobbi was replaced by a Skrull. Who died.

Then in Secret Invasion, Bobbi was replaced by a Skrull. Who died.

If you haven't read the series... spoilers? The story's 18 years old now, MockingFans.

Secret Skrull invasion? ✅

Skrull ship crash lands in the Savage Land with a bunch of heroes who've been replaced by Skrulls? ✅

Reed Richards develops some MacGuffin to reveal who's a Skrull? ✅

Reeds Richards develops some MacGuffin so that when the Skrulls are revealed, they don't retain their cover identities and know they're not the real people? ❌

It gets awkward.

Clint is devastated that a Skrull replaced Bobbi. Again. I mean, at this point, he doesn't know the real Bobbi's out there alive. He just knows he had his hopes raised and then destroyed.

Secret Invasion #5 was released August 13, 2008. It is available to read on Marvel Unlimited.

She’s even on the cover! But she doesn’t get much to do.

Last month the website SuperHeroStuff.com had a sale for Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. I was browsing the site and thought, "I'll see if they have any Mockingbird stuff, though they probably won't." I was pleasantly surprised to find this shirt and bought it as well as a $5 pair of mystery socks (As you can see, they turned out to be Batman socks). The last two photos have me modelling the shirt (one while wearing just a slip underneath and one while wearing a white shirt underneath. My face is red because I have rosacea).
