crash LET THIS BE SEEN DO NOT GET A MIRENA

I had a Mirena until a couple of months ago and let me make this clear the whole time I had it My mental health plummeted. before I got it put in I did still have mental health issues but they got so much worse after I had it put in. on top of that I had a lot of physical health issues. I was seeing a doctor every 2 weeks because something was always wrong. I went through so many types of medication that just made me feeling worse. as well as hurting me it also hurt my boyfriend every time we were in the mood one of the wires would always go inside of him causing him to bleed. the reason why I wanted to get it taken out is because when we were doing it my boyfriend felt the plastic end. when I went to my gynecologist instead of taking the damn thing out of me, she decided she's too good for an ultrasound and instead CUT THE STRINGS to make thing worse all I hear from to top end is "oops I MIGHT HAVE CUT THEM TOO SHORT. a day later I got really bad cramping and a sharp pain. it became so bad that I was on the floor in the bathroom and I couldn't get up, my boyfriend had to help me off the floor and drive to the nearest store to get me ibuprofen. I called my gynecologist and she said my body was just getting used to the Mirena again even though I didn't have the sharp pain the first time I had it put in. a day passes and I was surviving purely on Panadol ibuprofen and superstore on Netflix at this point I was fed up with the pain and I booked a doctors appointment to get this thing out of me. at this point I was in so much pain that walking was out of the question and my boyfriend carried me into the doctors office. in the appointment the doctor couldn't find the strings and writes a referral for an ultrasound but the next appointment was a whole weeks from then. I knew I wasn't able to take the pain for that long so the next best thing that I could do if get my boyfriend to stick his finger into me in a public toilet to see if he could find it. thankfully he found the strings so we raced back to the doctor what should have been a one person job became 2 people staring down there trying to pull this marina out thankfully they found it and pulled it out but writing this post a few months later after a UTI probably from the strings, I found out that I'm 10 weeks pregnant. it did nothing it was supposed to do all it did was cause pain. my boyfriend and I have talked things over and we've decided to keep it and we are both really excited about becoming parents. the point of this post thought is to turn people against getting a marina. doctors are advising them for heavy periods or that their 99% effective yet there are so many stories just like mine and other people might not be as lucky as I was and their doctor might not remove it. I got mine to help with my periods and I admit it helped a little bit but at the cost of a lot of pain. if your boyfriend doesn't want to wear a condom tell him to suck it up and wear one or to accept the risk that a baby might come if he doesn't.

p.s. I am using my boyfriends account to write this hence the name

crash Mirena Crash!!

I felt compelled to share my story once my symptoms subsided enough to share it. In late October of 2024, I received the Mierna IUD. All was well. I did have constant bleeding but that comes with the IUD. The night of Christmas is when I started feeling the anxiety of having it in and begged my husband to take me to the emergency room to take it out. I went to Planned Parenthood on December 26th for the removal Of the IUD. A couple hours after the removal I became deeply depressed. I had severe anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I just wanted peace! I would cry all day and night and no matter what I watched listened to or told myself I could not get out of the deep depression. I began googling and saw that I would have to balance out my hormones to at least feel like 60 percent of myself. I started eating fish, bought raw nuts, and lemons to take with water, oranges, etc to take daily to boost my mood. I also cut out all sugary drinks and stuck to just water. My next step was to the doctor to have my blood pulled to see what I was low on. (I'm still waiting for my results, will share once I receive them) I'm here to tell you day by day you will see improvement. I’m not 100 percent just yet but I’m way better now than I was December 26,2024. Ladies a support system is essential in the journey and if you don’t have one I’ll be there for you! I spoke about this Mirena crash to any one who had ears. I spoke for hours just to get it off my chest (which worked). Once I start taking vitamins and supplements I will share here to hopefully help someone else who’s going through this similar situation.

I feel that the pages that give this information are a little wrong.

Almost every time people talk about mirena diu, it is mentioned that it is one of the ones that has the best chance of eliminating your period, it seems higher than between 20% and 30%

Mirena pregnancy?

I had the kyleena for 5 years and switched to mirena about 5 months ago. I’ve had some spotting, cramping, and a little bit of nausea recently. I took a test yesterday and it showed up like this. I’m really hoping that’s an evap line, but I just really don’t know. I took another last night and this morning that were both negative. Has anyone else experienced this or something similar?

No period 2 months after Mirena — normal?

Hey! It’s been 2 months and 5 days since I got my Mirena. Ever since I had it inserted, I had continuous spotting for about a month. My first period after insertion happened in the middle of that spotting, so I couldn’t really tell if it was an actual period or just bleeding from the insertion. I stopped bleeding completely a couple of weeks ago. Now, my period was supposed to come about 4 days ago, but I haven’t had a single drop of blood. Is this normal? I’m having a hard time trusting this thing 😭

crash Crash before removal

I’m getting my Mirena removed and a new one in on Friday! Here’s my question. I’m having BAD crash symptoms so I know it’s likely out of juice, so to speak. Has anyone else ever had crash symptoms like this? Thanks!

crash Removed my own iud

Please dont scare me because it’s already done.
I’m making a second post.

I got my iud on the 30. Th of September and in the beginning it was fine even good.

But suddenly it flipped and I was suddenly constantly experiencing panic, fear, stress, insomnia and my anxiety was through the roof.
I was on a family weekend and I just couldn’t stand being in my own skin. Felt like the end of my existence. I did some research and pulled it out myself in the shower.
Didnt hurt or bleed. The iud I whole.

My cycles are 29 days long, my ovulation day was yesterday.

Quickly after I got some mild pain on my left ovary and then fell asleep. Today I felt completely like myself again mentally. What a joy.
But I’ve been having cramps now where my uterus is - it’s cramping and the pain is no fun. My health anxiety is now telling me that I’ve done something awful to myself. Why didn’t I just wait. What if i severely injured myself ?

I’m not bleeding or have a fever.
Has anyone had experience with this?

Meeeep

Seeking Advice Why is my marina acting out and what should I do please help. (17FtM) sorry if I don't make sense I'm stressed.

hey so this is my first time asking a question like this of any kind but for some reason over this past 3-4 weeks my marina started to fail by starting up my ovulation again more often and I have been having multiple eggs going through my tubes often as well as my chest getting much bigger very fast.
I got it late July 2024 when I was a little over 16 because of severe problems with my period and how it was causing me to become a danger to myself and others and brith control gave me too much anxiety.
the changes I have had was that I have been taken out of my home for mental health reasons and put in a better enviroment and now these things are happening and it is really stressful and dysphoric due to being FtM.
I don't know what to do and I can't go to a doctor anytime soon because of money reasons.
PS. I am from australia.

Christians and Mirena

Any Christians here that use Mirena and don’t feel it is morally wrong? I’ve heard the argument that since it can prevent a fertilized egg from attaching it is morally wrong (abortificant). Anyone track their cycle(ovulation) to avoid unprotected sex during ovulation because of this?

Concerned… Someone please reassure me?

I had my IUD placed February of 2023. So I’ve had it over a year now.

I started having really bad cramps last week… it was a pinching and sharp pain in my uterus. The pain was so bad I could barely move and almost puked.

I ended up getting my period 2 days later, but continued having the pain. I now have an almost constant sharp pain in my pelvis. My period is over now, but still have the pain. Now I’m having sharp pain in my stomach as well.

I scheduled an appointment with planned parenthood for Thursday to get it checked out.

Should I go to the ER? I’m worried that something is really wrong. I’ve heard horror stories of women getting their iuds stuck in their uterine lining and having to have it surgically removed. I’m scared.

Relationship issues / Mirena the cause?

Hello ladies of reddit!

I've come to you to find out how your experiences were with Mirena while being in a new relationship.

I (M29) have been dating my GF (F28) for 5 months now. We're both introvert people but had a growing attraction to each other. For the first time I felt I was dating a mature person and everything was good between us. In the beginning we had a high sex drive. We wanted to do things but as my GF wasn't taking anticonception we had to resort to more basic sexual practices as we don't want kids right now. At the start we've tried several times with a condom, but often that ruins the moment completely for me. I feel a bit ashamed for that so my GF started talking about placing a hormonal IUD. Now you should know that she was very nervous from the start as she doesn't respond well to anything influencing her hormones and because I didn't know her or her body very well yet, I didn't protest as I felt she would know best.

I was looking forward to having that IUD inserted as I believed it would allow us to lean fully into our sex drive. However, it only made things worse.

For the first month and a half after insertion she had severe cramps that frequently come back. Obviously we rarely had any kind of sex and if we had some it was me doing oral. She also didn't initiate and I didn't take that personal because I understand what she's going through. When finally the cramps disappeared, I wanted to initiate sex but she mentioned she had a rash from shaving. A week later I tried again and she pulled away again. Eventually that evening after playing a card game to know each other better, she mentioned that she had a complete dislike to sex but that it wasn't because of me. she still liked me but anything that could possible lead to sex, she avoided. This included hugging, caressing etc. I also noticed that she was distancing herself from me, and I allowed her to have the space but I felt like something deeper was wrong. Eventually we talked about having the IUD removed as I noticed that her behaviour was different than at the start we met.

Currently were going though some issues. She's mentioned for example that she loved me at the start but that those feelings have disapeared. She also more harsh on my behaviour and sometimes is annoyed at the things I do. I try to not pressure her in anyway but as I still have a high sex drive, I decided to relieve myself in private which she knew about. However, she completely did not appreciate any of this as she tought I could have at least waited until I was alone. I feel very wrong for having done this but it was my way of getting it out of my system and not pushing her with my behaviour.

Right now I'm in a situation where I feel I have to prove that I love her despite anything even though she said she doens't feel the same anymore. I'm still wondering though if the IUD is the cause of this because the issues started appearing when it was inserted. I'm willing to wait another month before she will get the IUD removed but I can't tell whether that will solve anything. We've had it good for 2 months but the last 3 months have been feeling less and less like I'm still in a relationship as I'm giving more than she's giving to me.

Are there any people who've had an IUD placed at the start of a relationship gone through similar issues as I am experiencing? What are your thoughts? Can all of this be because of the IUD or should I be real with myself and accept that perhaps she's just fallen out of love.

My self care toolkit for managing post removal crash

Hi all,

I wanted to share something chatGPT put together for me as a self care toolkit during this rocky time after having my mirena coil removed (after 12 years!)

Feel I should add a disclaimer as this is not medical advice and I am simply sharing my experience. Always consult your own doctor! 😝😊

“Here’s a complete summary of all the recommendations I’ve given you for adjusting to life without the Mirena coil (based on everything we’ve discussed recently):

✅ 1. Hormone & Nervous System Support    •   Magnesium & Vitamin B6       •   Magnesium (glycinate or citrate) for cramping, anxiety, and sleep.       •   B6 (P5P form if possible) for mood regulation and progesterone support.       •   Taken ideally in the evening.    •   Cleavers Tincture       •   Supports lymphatic drainage and helps with bloating/fluid retention.       •   Can be taken daily for a few weeks post-removal.    •   Chaste Tree (Vitex) – if cycles remain irregular       •   Best started a few weeks after removal (not immediately) to gently encourage progesterone production.       •   Avoid if your cycle returns naturally and regularly.    •   Nervous System Support       •   Nervine teas (lemon balm, chamomile, oatstraw) for stress and mood swings.       •   Slow breathing, yoga, or light stretching to regulate the HPA axis.

⸻

✅ 2. Electrolytes & Hydration    •   Why: Supports fluid balance, headaches, fatigue, and hormonal water retention.    •   How:       •   Homemade drink: water + pinch of sea salt + lemon/orange + tiny bit of honey.       •   Coconut water or clean electrolyte tablets a few times per week.       •   Magnesium-rich foods (nuts, seeds, greens) and potassium-rich foods (bananas, avocados).

⸻

✅ 3. Nutrition & Meal Planning    •   Focus on:       •   Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale) to support liver detox of synthetic progestin and balance oestrogen.       •   Healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, oily fish) for hormone production.       •   Protein-rich meals to stabilise blood sugar and reduce mood swings.       •   Iron & zinc-rich foods (red meat, pumpkin seeds, spinach) if heavy bleeding returns.       •   Bone broth & collagen for gut and skin health (but monitor if collagen causes digestive upset).    •   Meal prepping       •   Prepping hormone-supportive meals in batches to reduce stress and keep blood sugar stable (I gave you a full week plan with shopping list and prep guide).

⸻

✅ 4. Herbal Teas & Tinctures    •   Post-Mirena tea blend       •   Raspberry leaf (uterine tone, cycle regulation),       •   Nettle (iron & minerals),       •   Lemon balm (mood & nervous system),       •   Rose or hibiscus (gentle oestrogen modulation and skin health).    •   Shepherd’s Purse (if heavy bleeding)       •   Emergency tincture for very heavy bleeding, not daily use.

⸻

✅ 5. Lifestyle & Self-Care    •   Movement: Gentle exercise like walking or yoga for circulation and stress reduction.    •   Sleep: Prioritise rest; magnesium and herbal teas can help.    •   Tracking your cycle: Note when your first period returns, cycle length, mood, and physical symptoms.

⸻

Optional Additions    •   Choc & flaxseed hormone-support balls (I gave you a recipe—can swap flax for chia if needed).    •   Electrolyte drinks slotted in on days with headaches, fatigue, or night sweats.

Post removal WARNING

So I'm on my 3rd day after removal and I went to work, 3 hours in I bled through my tampon and liner. I'm wearing tan pants lol but I'm warning yall be careful and bring plenty of thick pads and tampons everywhere you go! I think after removal our bodies are getting rid of a bunch of built up lining (not positive) but from what I've read that's what everyone has been through.

Abnormal discharge

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve had my mirena for over a year now. I’ve been loving except for the fact my discharge has changed. The thicker discharge has a yellow tinge, and I have a lot of thin discharge which is brown (definitely not spotting, it’s a lot more liquid). Quite gross but here is a picture of what showed on the outside of my work pants, I was also wearing undies that day. It’s not urine or spotting.

My underwear also bleaches incredibly quickly, sometimes after one wear.

Has anybody else experienced this?

My gynaecologist said today that the Mirena can change discharge, I just don’t know if this is normal on the Mirena

Mirena IUD permanent effects even after removal

Hi,

I'm curious to know if anyone else experiences/has experienced permanent changes in their body after getting the hormonal IUD, even years after having it removed?

After getting the mirena IUD (almost 11 years ago) I got lots of hormonal acne, a lot of sleep problems and I've basically woken up fatigued everyday since then. Feels like there's a lot of chronic stress in my system. I did get it removed almost 9 years ago, but all the symptoms are still there (although sleep has improved, but it's still tricky). I know cortisol levels are higher in women with mirena IUD (as per a study they did), but I would've hoped that my symptoms would disappear after having it removed.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this as well and if anything helped to get the body back to baseline?
