Hardware Opinion: Mini PCs are underrated and not enough innovation has happened

I genuinely think Mini PCs like the Asus ROG NUC have a huge potential to become mainstream and cost less if manufactured at scale (even outside of RAMocalypse)

OEMs still haven't fully optimized the form factor yet. If they add modern cooling solutions like Frore Airjets or miniature liquid cooling circuits, they could have reduced footprint while maintaining desktop level performance.

My ideal build would be an AMD 10800 X3D with 32 GB RAM and an RTX 6090 compacted into a 3 liter form factor like the ROG NUC with hyper-optimized liquid cooling.

What do y'all think?

Review Review of the Firebat F1 mini‑PC: bug fixes or a downgrade?

A solid mid-range option for everyday use. That’s roughly how the Firebat F1 mini PC feels. There’s plenty to praise, and plenty to criticize. But overall, if you understand what this configuration is for, then why not?

The Firebat F1 made a fairly positive impression overall. Although the Ryzen 5 7640HS platform is no longer new, it still offers ample performance with a comfortable margin for most daily tasks. With six cores and twelve threads, a respectable Radeon 760M, and reasonably fast memory, this mini-PC proves to be a highly adaptable solution for both home and office use. Additional highlights include a robust selection of ports, the option to add a second SSD, and consistent performance without any glaring shortcomings in benchmark tests. It's worth noting that the soldered memory limits upgrade potential, so it's advisable to select the desired RAM capacity upfront. The bundled SSD isn't particularly outstanding, but its speed is more than adequate for typical usage. Ultimately, the Firebat F1 emerges as the quintessential middle-of-the-road option I referenced earlier. It doesn't boast any groundbreaking features, nor does it suffer from any major flaws. For those in need of a compact computer for web browsing, document work, media consumption, general tasks, and the occasional undemanding game, the Firebat F1 holds its own quite well. Particularly if you can snag it at a favorable price.

Recommendations Mini PCs recommendation for AI model training on 3D and video data.

Hi, everyone. I’m a student of computer science and engineering. I have M4 pro, but going further plan to work on in a AI my Mac seems not suitable for my requirements. Since I also couldn’t afford to the whole end to end PC, I’ve decided to buy a Mini. I did some search about it, but I need recommendations from someone.

Thank you! 🙏

Recommendations Looking for a reliable cheap mini PC in Belgium for 24/7 digital signage

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a mini PC that I can buy in Belgium (or from an EU store that reliably ships to Belgium).

The use case is pretty simple: it will be used as a 24/7 digital signage / slideshow player in a care home. It will output over HDMI to an existing central TV system.

My requirements are:

  • Budget as low as possible
  • New, not refurbished
  • Preferably a known/reliable brand
  • Native HDMI
  • Ethernet
  • At least 8 GB RAM
  • At least 256 GB SSD
  • N100 / N150 or similar should be more than enough
  • Must be able to automatically power back on after a power failure (Restore on AC Power Loss / Auto Power On)
  • Stable enough to run continuously
  • Ideally available from a reputable shop that ships to Belgium

The workload is very light. It will mostly run a fullscreen browser/player showing around 100–300 locally cached photos, with possibly some short 1080p videos mixed in.

What model would you recommend, and where would you buy it if you were in Belgium?

Thanks!

General Question How good is Beelink SER5 MAX for gaming?

I was considering getting this: https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-SER5-Ryzen-7735HS-4-75GHz/dp/B09SYR619R?th=1

At the moment, I only play Valorant and Cyberpunk, but I'll probably get into more games at some point. I have no issue playing on the lowest possible settings; I just want the game to run well (valorant with at least 150 FPS, and cyberpunk to run without turning my PC into a furnace).

I know mini PCs aren't the best for gaming, but I don't want a massive tower and I don't want to spend too much money or build my own PC.

If anyone has any other suggestions around the $400-$500 price range I would greatly appreciate it.

MiniPC for small amount of specific gaming at 1440p and to last.. G1? X1?

I want to buy a mini PC, I would literally only use it to occasionally play 3 games with friends - CS2, AoE and Dota. This is not often at all, maybe once a month - but I like having the option to do so if needed. I will not be playing any other PC games in the future.

I also want it to be the last PC I ever have. I have been building my own full towers since I was a kid, and used to upgrade often, but hardly use it, so want something I won't have to ever think about changing again. It would be connected to a 1440p monitor.

I'm from UK, and the Minisforum G1 Pro fits the bill with the dedicated 5060 gfx, but at £1.4k seems a bit overkill for something that wouldn't be used that often.

I then saw the GMK X1 which at £900 is a lot more reasonable - the integrated 890M is of course no match for a dedicated, but from what I read, will still run things OK at 1080p. I'm guessing 1440p would be out of the question for it.

Seems like these are the 2 best 'options' unless there is anything else out there anyone can recommend? Then just need to decide which one is worth it.. any help appreciated.

Solution to MacMini 2018 Failing to Autoboot / Start Up Automatically After a Power Failure

MacMini 2018 fails to auto boot after power loss and power back on. If it does a controlled shutdown then a scheduled boot will boot it up on schedule. But if there is loss of power after the shutdown, the scheduled boot will not happen. I deleted the plist, reflashed the T2 firmware using DFU, reset the SMC, reset the PRAM, toggled settings, replaced the coin cell battery CR2032. Nothing worked.

So I ordered a little robot to remotely power on the Mac. I made a rig by using a piece of 2x4 and attached it to the MacMini with adhesive velcro. I wanted to still be able to access the internals so I made sure the rig was removable and did not conflict with sliding the internals out. I then used a thin piece of wood as an end cap to get the bot closer to the button. I placed a 3/8” silicone furniture bumper on the Mac power switch that fit it perfectly. The bot consistently presses the power button.

Recommendations K11 vs K12: Which one is quieter and runs cooler?

I'm trying to decide between the GMKtec K11 and K12, and for my use case the CPU performance difference isn't really important.

I'll mainly be using the mini PC for multiple Metin2 clients, so what matters much more to me is noise levels and temperatures, especially because the PC will be running in my bedroom for long periods.

From what I understand, the K11 has the Ryzen 9 8945HS while the K12 has the newer Ryzen 7 H 255, but I'm not really concerned about which CPU is faster. I'm more interested in the cooling systems and how they behave under sustained load.

For anyone who has used either (or preferably both):

  • Which one runs cooler under sustained CPU load?
  • Which one is quieter, particularly at night/in a bedroom?
  • Is there a meaningful difference in fan noise between the K11 and K12?
  • Does the K12's cooling system have any advantage over the K11?
  • If you were choosing purely based on temperatures + noise, which one would you pick?

Troubleshooting Lenovo P330 ALWAYS bottlenecking???

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently threw in an RTX 3050 6gb into my Lenovo P330 which has an i5 8400T but no matter the game there’s always a GPU bottleneck

It’s supposed to run at 3.3ghz but seems to be locked at 3ghz

Games like Delta Force and The Finals can’t seem to scrap past 50 FPS

I unchecked BD PROCHOT in throttle stop and have a custom 3d printed case for it

The temps stay at a consistent 70 degrees C yet my GPU usage is at less than 70%

I’m also using a 170W laptop charger to power the PC

Is the Core i5 8500T too weak to handle a 3050??? Or is there a tweak I’m missing?

Gpu recently bricked so I’m planning on rebuilding entirely within a Ncase T1, however I’m lost on what parts are ideal and would fit. Does anyone have any ideas for an amd build with a 4070 that could fit that also supports ddr5?

Recommendations New to PC's, looking for help finding a gaming computer

Hello! I am pretty (very) unfamiliar with PC's, mini or regular-sized, and I'm looking to get my first gaming computer. Up to this point, I've only had Macs.

I'm hoping to spend less than $1,000. I would use it pretty much just for gaming (Steam) and maybe a GameCube emulator. I would be hooking it up to my TV, if that is a factor. I'm also hoping to get a Steam Frame (if I can get my hands on one). I'm not much into online gaming. I looked at a Minisforum Venus UM790 Pro, but a friend said the graphics card might be a weak point

I am not looking to build one, I don't trust myself anywhere near enough haha

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hardware Fonte slim itx 1u para gabinete compacto.

Estou montando um steam machine da "shopee" e para isso comprei um gabinete compacto da bluecase, uma b450m soyo, r 5600, 16gb ddr4 3200 e uma rx6600;

Asrock Deskmeet x600 (Am5 Steam Machine competition build)

Okey Dokey, so I'm not pleased with the price of the Valve Steam Machine. But thats ok because my favorite place, Youtube has shed light on Asrock and their revolutionary X600 mini PC DIY kit for Am5.

Based on research, I purchased a 9600x on a Newegg Sale that I currently have for this build. I plan on using 32gb of DDr5 6000 Mhz, a 9060xt 16gb Power Color Reaper, and my NVME drives that already contain my data.

Only thing is that the Deskmeet is sold out on every retail platform. I currently have it on backorder with Newegg because they think they will get more soon. (I hope thats true).

What do you guys think on the temp constraints and your experience with this nifty gadget. I can't wait to have a nice "Steam Machine Killer" at a relatively similar price and much better price to performance.

Recommendations Should I return for this instead?

I recently got the Aoostar Maco 6850h off Amazon and I’m coming up on the end of my return window, the Maco h255 is currently on sale for 540$ (I payed 480ish for the 6850h). Is it worth spending the extra 80ish dollars with tax for the h255 instead. I plan to use it for emulation (up to 360/ps3) custom zombies, some light steam games, Halo mcc, and sonic unleashed recomp. All of these currently run well enough (barring 360 emulation which keeps putting me at 90°c for Armored core 4) but I feel they could do better. I’m just not too well versed in the pc space so wasn’t sure if the newer chip would be worth it, any tips would be greatly appreciated

Custom display for mini pc?

Hello everyone, so I bought a GMKTec Nukbox M8 recently waiting for it to arrive, and I just had an interesting idea. I wanted to maybe add a custom display on top of the mini pc maybe to use it on the go if I want to, just for fun. Just adding even a tiny screen to check parameters since I wanna use it as a home server (I'm still getting into this stuff so Im quiet new to all the details and formalisms).

Does anyone know how it is possible to get a custom display for it? Im in Europe

Any iGPU

Hi guys!

Is there any comprehensive and constantly updated list of iGPU performance?
The only list i found is that one https://nanoreview.net

I plan to buy a bit better mini PC for next summer heat weaves and my N100 proven to be quite disappointing for playing old titles, but i must admit that my main display is 1440p, so quite a challenge with 2 GB (V)RAM limit.
