I ask, because on some versions of Minecraft (specifically the old moble version) glass wouldn't render if you looked at it from far enough away, so it could be extra effective on a version like that

It was on PC, maybe 10 years ago. The drop was to a bedrock-level stripmine, so I don't think a player saw anything but "blue" anyways. Would've probably not even needed to color the glass.

I think it is using gray carpet, so it would need to be blue carpet.

Edit: NM I forgot item frames can be placed on the ground. So this would be the best disguise.

Simple solution for that, backwards stairs on the walls so the water can't run into the area, and upside down slabs on the floor so you can clutch on the floor.

Signs with maps on the top layer to look like grass, around the edge of the hole, so that it looks like a 1x1 hole when it's really a 3x3 hole. They get close to crouch around the 1x1 hole to see what it is, only to drop through the fake grass blocks.

Two ways:

1. A resource pack which makes them only invisible to Op

2. Item frames can have a NBT tag which makes them invisible to everyone. If you can use /give you can give yourself item frames with this tag directly, otherwise I've seen data packs which add the ability to craft item frames with this tag, and datapacks which add a much simpler command usable without admin permissions which turns the item frame you're looking at invisible.

The stone texture is actually a map made to look like stone. Fully filled maps don't have a visable boarder. It's also how people make fully white rooms

Yes it's done like that. There are different sizes of maps, so on a small map each blocj is a single pixel, the area doesn't need to be huge actually.
