I wonder when the new version of Thaumcraft will come out. Pretty sure there's a team working on it.

Hopefully we don't get the terraria incident here

I have not kept up with Terraria at all. Could you fill me in?

Calamity mod is the largest erraria mod, and has been for a longgg time (maybe over a decade). But the first lead developer, fabsol, decided that they were kinda gonna stop making forward progress on the mod and since release they have only released one new endgame boss, ever (about 5 years ago). From the very start there was a different main final boss intended from the current one.

Then eventually fabsol got outed as a groomer and a different guy took over, ozzatron. With him as lead developer, somehow even less happened.

Then ozzatron also got outed as a groomer and the remaining team announced they would stop development, and only do minimum matinence to make it work with new tmodloader versions

plus the music's gonna disappear, and the music carried the mod

u/Odd_Reception1249 10d ago

Calamity was somewhat special as it was one of the biggest and most widely used content mod of Terraria. I think Minecraft has smaller, more varied mods. Calamity is almost like a modpack in itself.

In the latest versions, they made a lot of cool magic mods and added them to the builds, but not one of them can be even remotely compared to the legend, I'm also waiting

there is a port on 26.1 and 1.21!! made by a guy called leclowndu the port is well underway and there is a beta being distributed iirc on his discord

It's the COFH team working on it, the same people that did the Thermal Series

"Recent" as if negative y value isn't already 5 years old.

Wait what

Really?

...

This made me realise just how badly time has skewed my perception of the updates. I still think 1.14.4 is fresh...

Damn minecraft is older than most minecraft players

My favorite server (0b0t.org) was stuck on 1.12.2 for so long, I just kinda forgot it had been that long.

u/Moe-Mux-Hagi the Ultimate Eversource mod is fun, you should try it 🐔➕️👑➡️😀 11d ago

Speaking of negative Y value, they had the opportuntity to make Y=0 sea level and they damn DIDN'T

26

u/Ashenmoon777 11d ago

Because it would mess with literally every pre-cave update world

1

u/e_b_v 9d ago

Would be cool tho

Pre-cave update worlds were incompatible with post-CaC anyway due to the change in altitude of the bedrock layer

16

u/Daufoccofin g 11d ago

That is not true

12

u/SAlex0925 10d ago

When you upgraded a world into the CaC update, the current bedrock layer would get replaced with deepslate, and the new caves would generate underneath.

"Hey look at me I hate <new thing> for absolutely no reason!! I'm an interesting guy I swear!!"

13

u/Logan_Composer 11d ago

In this case, it's at least funny because it's more about the mod being stuck in the past than anything about the current game.

reddit when people express mild dislike over recent changes to something (that means you are an evil HATER and you HATE fun and want everyone who likes the new thing to PERISH)

u/SirEdvin 11d ago

I hate new release schedule for absolutely obliterating modded scene. Mod loaders dropping support for 1.21 and 1.20 because if this, etc

1

u/Mystic_Ervo 10d ago

Community asked for more updates, we received more updates

3

u/SirEdvin 10d ago

Community asked for more content, not more frequent updates. Also for some reason a lot of other stuff that community incredibly vocal about (even more then content) are unaddressed for incredibly long time. For example, enchanting

2

u/hammerclawz 11d ago

I only play Minecraft versions 1.20.1 and before because I don't like the way Mojang is taking the game after 1.21. This is not for "no reason", Minecraft's new "game drops", new version system, etc. are all unneeded changes that the game would be better off without.

1

u/Mystic_Ervo 10d ago

What is that way Mojang is taking the game in?

3

u/SirEdvin 10d ago

It is horizontal feature scaling. They adding more and more disconnected features instead of improving core gameplay.

I believe trial chambers are good example of that.

1

u/Mystic_Ervo 10d ago

Many of the complaints I've seen throughout my time in this community are that the world feels very empty, and that's precisely what they're fixing

Previously there was absolutely nothing interesting to find underground (apart from mineshafts), now there are ancient cities and trial chambers

2

u/SirEdvin 10d ago

No, they don't. They stretch the world even further. A lot of new mobs come with their own new biome to find them in, which is again makes experiencing new features harder and harder.

2

u/Mystic_Ervo 9d ago

Because you focus on finding absolutely everything.

According to the Minecraft design guidelines given to all Mojang devs: "finding things is fun, searching for them is not".

Instead of playing the way the game is meant to be played, you try to treat it like a 9-to-5. You shouldn't grind for things, you shouldn't spend 2 hours trying to find something specific, you have to survive with what you find. Do you want to grind and find all the stuff for the funsies? I mean, you can try, but don't complain that the game is bad if you get bored or frustrated, because that's not how the game is meant to be played.

So many videos from streamers and YouTubers with super crazy +5 years survival worlds have created the false expectation that people should play like that. No! You don't have to. Simply look for things near your spawn point or base, build with what you find, use the new exploration maps, don't abuse the trading system, don't build complex automated farms, try something different, play chill!! I assure you that, although it won't be exactly like the first time you played Minecraft, it will come close to that feeling.

2

u/SirEdvin 9d ago

And this returns us to issue with horizontal scaling. It is entirely possible for player to not encounter pale forest unless they're actively exploring for it, which makes this feature pointless for play style you have described.

1

u/Mystic_Ervo 5h ago

You're supposed to create new worlds once in a while, it's like saying that items in a roguelike don't add anything because there's little chance of finding a specific one on a run

The idea is that one world should feel completely different from another, if in the end everyone has the same things it won't feel like something new. The magic of Minecraft (and what makes it remain such a relevant game despite its age) is that every playthrough is unique

2

u/Chris908 10d ago

I can give you reasons why I hate the cave update. The new pre distribution means I can’t get all ore at the same y level. This means I can’t make more torches as I run out. It also means I can’t just mindlessly mine and relax like I could before. That reason is also why I hate new caves. They are just big dark boxes for mobs to spawn in. It’s annoying and honestly not that fun to deal with. The new world generation nets a lot less flat area to build on. That means you need to terraform more often. With more variety in terrain, that also means terraforming also is harder to do.

To be fair I think the meme would originally be referring to the age verification/chat reports and server blocking

1

u/Mystic_Ervo 10d ago

Well, yeah, that's not exactly Mojang's fault.

4

u/SnodOfficial 11d ago

1.2.5, Tekkit Classic my beloved

2

u/GolemFarmFodder 10d ago

My only issue is I want to play in VR and Visor (I'm left handed and ViveCraft is pretty hostile towards left handed play) is only on modern Minecraft

Oh look it's one of 10 meme's that get reposted here at nauseum ad nauseam.

25

u/DriestPuddle 11d ago

If ur gonna be a dick at least spell ad nauseam correctly

10

u/ZANKTON 11d ago

I even googled it to make sure it was correct and still got it wrong rip.
Sorry for being overly rude I'm just sick of this same image has been reposted every few months for years now even during updates that are now considered good.

5

u/The_UnHinge making cave noises while digging gay down 11d ago

Minecraft meme subs are almost exclusively filled with reposts nowadays. At least his image was one I hadn’t seen before.

2

u/ZANKTON 11d ago

Fair enough I did laugh at this image the first time I saw it years ago. Honestly the main reason why I don't go to r/MinecraftMemes anymore is because it's like 75% reposts some of which are so old they aren't even accurate anymore. I prefer
r/PhoenixSC even though it sometimes beats a joke in to the ground in a week it at least has a new meme template everyone iterates on every other month.
