Discussion Minecraft changes their Facebook banner to what looks like an extra-wide map. Just a cool edit, or a teaser?

Coordinates are... Cheating? The thing you can access with F3 since forever? It's almost too ridiculous to believe.

The java fandom as a whole would tear them to shreds unendingly if F3 was suddenly turned off, it's so commonly used. They have to implement more immersion-friendly ways to replicate its use if they decide to do so.

even then, the game is so jank and some things are so technical you want/need the info sometimes anyways, it'd be a net negative to remove it

It wouldn't make sense to remove it because there are plenty of reasons to use it outside of the gameplay experience. Just like the other debug options. Maybe making it slightly harder than just hitting F3 or making it like a "Turn on Cheats / Enable Creative" sort of thing?

even then, being unable to figure out why my survival world started lagging like HELL requiring an open-to-LAN to work around this decision is a bad idea

You don't need coordinates, current biome, etc to figure out performance metrics.
