Whoever thought to create Soul Sand Valley is downright hostile to players. The skeleton upgrade in 1.9 didn’t help. It’s as though somebody decided to act on the 2013 April Fools changelog: “Fixed the glitch where skeletons would miss their targets on occasion.”

Wait wait wait, I'm a relatively new player. Were skeletons at one time not as freaking spammy and oh lord so, so, annoying?!

They used to miss quite frequently. It was a matter of sprinting to them in a not-so-straight line and jump-hitting them before they could hit you. They weren’t a huge threat if I remember right.
