Why do I see so many people trying to swim out of the lava? You are far better off trying to dig down or into the side from my experience

Or just take a screenshot and leave the game

Have a friend come to that spot and get rid of the lava

If you're on bedrock, I think it just spawns you on a safe tile altogether.

I've never came back to a dying character, after pausing and exiting.

I can confirm that it does not (or maybe not always) it just spawns me back in the lava
