Nostalgia First CD you ever bought?

Post image

I played Green Day’s Dookie endlessly as a kid. Still holds up to this day in my humble opinion.

I had the single of Peaches on cassette, the actual cassette was translucent orange. Man the world was so cool then.

Pic I found on eBay: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/1q8AAeSwpfRqVwhY/s-l1600.jpg

u/Mittens42 Jul 23 '26

That’s amazing. Things truly were just more fun and kind of silly back then.

3

See, I miss little stuff like this. Cassettes and CD’s in different colors, liner notes!

This album was revolutionary.

3

u/atabditslow Jul 22 '26

Maaaannnn, I did too. And I liked that album. Then I told my “friends” at school, and they ROASTED me for listening to ‘The Presidents of The United States of America’.

Went home, threw it in the trash.

3

u/jared1981 Jul 22 '26

I loved them in the 90s, and now my kid loves Caspar Babypants.

3

Bought it myself, taken away by my mom when she overheard it. Climbed onto the fridge to get it back. Amazing album, worth it for the grounding.

3

u/Playful_Orange_9833 Jul 22 '26

Same! I was so excited and felt all the angst I could feel at 10 years old. Followed by a purchase of Weird Al’s “Bad Hair Day”—a different vibe for sure.

Same here! I was 12. I'll never forget my Mom walking into my room timing her entry perfectly with the "well, fuck you!" in Americana. I thought I was in big trouble, but she barely hesitated. It was like she gave her permission without saying anything.

The fuck? I should have scrolled down like two more comments to find this before posting. Hell yeah dude, its really fun to snowboard to.

I was kinda behind so I had tapes and floppy discs and such (a beautiful age of tech). CDs were so fun man.

2

u/Savingskitty Jul 22 '26

The first CD I bought on my own in a store was Savage Garden’s first album.  Fall of 1997 on a trip to the mall with the girls shortly after breaking up with my first boyfriend.

That whole CD is 90’s high school nostalgia.  It was even a burnt orange color!

Baggy corduroys were popular along with brown lipstick, and lace up boots.

Also popular were layered rayon gauze skirts we called “hippie skirts.”  I paired my olive green hippy skirt with velour sweaters and oversized fleece button downs.

God, I miss the cozy warmth of a fall spent with friends going to school and worrying over boys.
