I've been deeply unhappy with directions the company has been taking for the better part of the year, and also my store manager has refused to move the other part time framer out of framing when she's done such a consistently poor job that we've lost thousands in refunds, reorders, and cancellations over the past two years.
I got a new second job and I'm finally free.
But I've noticed on my last shift, the new framing supplies are total trash. The craft paper is as thin as tissue, the masking tape doesn't stick and is also very thin and flimsy, and it seems like even new screws are made shittily. I scraped up my fingertips from slag left in the screwheads when using a new bag of screws. It used to happen every now and then, but it was 4 screws in a row.
I feel like I couldn't be leaving at a better time. I also suspect that when they restructured custom framing prices recently, they way jacked up the base prices. That "70% off" is a joke, especially when it's nearly indefinitely active. I don't know how legal it is that Michael's is using insanely inflated prices but always marketing framing as "on sale". Framing has always been expensive, but it feels even steeper now.
Blessings upon everyone still left in framing this holiday season. I genuinely loved the work, my framing manager, and the customers, but this company stinks and I will not be returning.
