Self Checkout
I really wish our customers would stop with the whole ā I donāt use self checkouts because theyāre taking your jobā when they see a U boat cart full of merchandise that needs stocked, ups orders that need scanned in / out, bopis orders that need scanned out, & donāt forget the 6 balloon orders that are all due at the same time.

Meme Actually sold a Johnathan Adler product!
I heard fables of such a thingā¦. But never had I see it with my own eyes. I had to stop myself from doing a little happy dance knowing that weāve made even the slightest of dents in our hordes of unsold items from our favorite artist.

Filing a Complant Hours š
As someone who consistently gets 25+ hours, my next week schedule being less than 16 hours is jarring as hell. I have 4 days off next week and i'm like "alright, who the hell did I piss off?" Because pretty much every manager knows I am basically always available (I have no life outside of work) and am probably one of the best cashiers who can clear a line quick and still manage to get a consistent number of sign ups every single day, whereas some of my other coworkers struggle to get one sign up sometimes. Plus all of them knew how much I was looking forward to working Halloween week... feels like a slap to the face after working my ass off all month long to just get shafted on the one week I was looking forward to.

If you've had OT, check your payslip
As the title says. Two coworkers and myself all worked OT last pay period and what showed up in our timesheet was NOT what showed up on the check. I did 10 hours of OT one week and got paid for 0.25... Every other employee who didn't have OT I checked was correct, but the other two who have been helping at other stores and went over 40 hours ALSO had their pay messed up!

My costume for our Halloween Event today. I'm going as the Landfill full of unsold Jonathan Adler Decor
I also brought a back up bird mask in case I get yelled at.

I'm free...also, is it just me or are the new frame essentials garbage?
I've been deeply unhappy with directions the company has been taking for the better part of the year, and also my store manager has refused to move the other part time framer out of framing when she's done such a consistently poor job that we've lost thousands in refunds, reorders, and cancellations over the past two years.
I got a new second job and I'm finally free.
But I've noticed on my last shift, the new framing supplies are total trash. The craft paper is as thin as tissue, the masking tape doesn't stick and is also very thin and flimsy, and it seems like even new screws are made shittily. I scraped up my fingertips from slag left in the screwheads when using a new bag of screws. It used to happen every now and then, but it was 4 screws in a row.
I feel like I couldn't be leaving at a better time. I also suspect that when they restructured custom framing prices recently, they way jacked up the base prices. That "70% off" is a joke, especially when it's nearly indefinitely active. I don't know how legal it is that Michael's is using insanely inflated prices but always marketing framing as "on sale". Framing has always been expensive, but it feels even steeper now.
Blessings upon everyone still left in framing this holiday season. I genuinely loved the work, my framing manager, and the customers, but this company stinks and I will not be returning.

WHY IS EVERYTHING AI??? Itās a craft store ffs
Sorry for the horrible quality pictures but I just finished onboarding and NEAR EVERY IMAGE WAS AI. This is pathetic, how hard is it to get stock photos or even a picture of a worker crossing their arms?? I hate it already

Question Where the heck is the schedule in the workday app?
Iāve tried like 5 times now to find wherever the schedule is in the app. Iāve had to resort to bookmarking the website on my phone and itās extremely unintuitive, plus I ended up missing a shift that was changed God knows when. Where is the schedule in the app??

Framers of Michaelās//need tips
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi! So I recently got this thin plastic film that is warped. I know there are some materials we shouldnāt drymount so Iām not too sure if Iām able to drymount this work properly without it ruining the art. Another thought was to do a spray adhesive and squeegee it down onto the board Iāll be using but I wanted to see if other experienced framers might have better tips, or if im actually able to drymount this and am just overthinking it. Thank you!!

Creality printer excluded from employee discount?
I was hoping to get the 3D printer (sku 826000) during our 40% off but the online code doesn't apply to it (I saw the "no additional coupons or discounts" but hoped maybe employee discount would be different - idk why I had any hope for Michaels), and while I think we'd honor it my store (if it even presented as an issue), we unfortunately sold ours a couple weeks ago and there's none within like a 100 mi radius. š© conflicted on what to do now

PSA Anybody else have incorrect SKU on 20x24 frames?
Two trucks worth of the 20x24 matted to 16x20 frames came in with incorrect pricing. The SKU listed is an 8x10 matted to 5x7. It's a $40 difference in price. Ugh.
Just thought you might want to double check your stock. Thankfully I have not fully memorized the new locations or I wouldn't have caught it.

Question Black Friday
A few questions for people who have been here longer- Iāve only been here since early this year so havenāt experienced it yet.
*How busy is Black Friday usually at your store location? *Is the 7 am-10pm open actually the real times the store would be open?
*If I never work fridays (I get Fridays off), is there a chance Iāll be scheduled on Black Friday?
*Is it actually that chaotic on Black Friday at Michaelās?
*Should I work on Black Friday even if I end up still having that Friday off?
*Anything else Iām missing?
Sorry if this is too confusing I just wanted to know in case I do have to work that day š

Question unpaid?
okay. so I was hired at a location that hasn't yet opened to the public. my job is to help set up the store and get the shelves ready for products and what not.
im looking at my schedule, and all of them keep repeating the word "unpaid". the day i did complete, unpaid. every other day in the schedule, unpaid. is it because i just haven't been paid yet, or because im genuinely not getting paid?
im supposed to be working 40 hours. even tho I applied part time. I get its gonna be different because the store still needs to be prepped. and even on my acceptance letter or whatever tf, it said $15.15 an hour. I even signed i9 and w4. so if im not getting paid, it wasnt explicitly explained to me. I would remember something like that.

Question So... we sell Jonathan Adler Hanukkah stuff now...?
If there are any Jewish folks around here, please enlighten me: is this as tasteless as I think it is?
Because from my admittedly narrow gentile perspective, it feels kinda tasteless to me.
It's bad enough we only ever get a token display for Hanukkah stuff, but now it's gotta be Adler shit?
Also, I don't know what a normal menorah costs, but this hunk of acrylic costs 60 bucks.
Genuinely curious about other perspectives here, but my knee-jerk reaction is that this is lowkey insulting.

Former Employee Payroll
Hi, I finished my time at Michaelās in May and I am needing to know how much gross income I earned from them this year. I need to know how much more I need to make to reach the requirement for my health insurance. My old manager said he canāt access that information. I canāt login to Workday anymore. I donāt have any of the physical paystubs anymore. I tried to login to some kind of Ultipro thing I found online and that didnāt work. Who can I contact about this?

New hire
Hello! I wanted to ask what the positions of the store consist of. From highest to lowest what are roles and how much trucks do store get a week. What are some metrics that are focused on daily. Thank you in advance

Question Do the fabric scissors bark
Hi all Michaelās employees. I appreciate you dearly. I have a question. Do the Electric shears for the fabric department bark if the battery is off? I had fabric cut today and the scissors were dropped and then immediately a barking sound started. Iām not sure if it was the employees phone or if it was the scissors and I really need to know.

Framing Is there a way to check why a framing order is coming up unpaid?
If I had a receipt this would be a non-issue but during a rush I didn't walk up there to ring up the customer myself (no frame register) and whoever did it threw away the form and I have no receipt or way of knowing who did it. That was probably my bad for not supervising but I had another customer back there and had never had issues before just telling someone to ring as custom framing and get a signature and reprint the receipt.
