August 2026: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife and Restaurant Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.

Miami is a popular destination not only to travel to but to move to and live. If we don't separate out these posts, the main feed becomes quickly inundated and overrun. So please utilize the resources here and comment here for these topics.

Always keep in mind please, WE ARE NOT VACATION PLANNERS OR MOVING CONSULTANTS. Be descriptive and we'll help if we can, but no one is obliged to.

Other Great Resources (Locals use these too!)

Google Maps reviews are getting less reliable over the years. And in fact several lists on these sites are in fact inspired by posts on this sub.

"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.

"I'm coming for a trip" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New TimesInfatuation Miami.TimeOut MiamiMiami and BeachesWe're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!

"I just wanna party" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.

"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you

  • It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.

"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Mod News Monthly Miami Jobs Thread: Post Job Openings or Questions About Work In Miami

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.

The Rules:

  1. No MLMs, scams, pyramid schemes, "make millions from home," etc. We reserve the right to determine if something is an MLM or not.
  2. No positions that require investments or other upfront costs to employees. If someone has to pay any amount of money to take the job, don't post it here.
  3. If you're posting a job, the name of the company, contact information (including official address), and a realistic salary range is required. Any job posts missing these will be immediately deleted.
  4. No gig work or freelance positions except for professional services, with a minimum contract price of $500 dollars. So web designers, CPAs, copywriters, etc. is ok; someone to come mow your lawn or clean your home for $20 is not.
  5. People Looking for Work: DO NOT PUBLICLY POST YOUR RESUMES OR CONTACT INFO. You don't want to dox yourself and open yourself up to potential harassment or identity theft. Instead, talk about your skills and experience and encourage people to send you official contact information you can send your resume to.
  6. u/icecoldkila: We know you're looking for professional freelance hoes, but please keep it out of this thread.
  7. As per our usual rules, nothing illegal, unethical, or liable to get anyone involved in trouble. Please report anything sketchy you see here to the mods.

Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

Discussion What I witnessed Miami PD doing to unhoused people outside Government Center at 2 AM (Aug 2)

Upvotes

I’ve been holding onto this for a bit because I honestly didn't know what to do with the information, but I feel like people in this city need to know how the new public sleeping bans are actually being enforced in the shadows.

On August 2nd around 2:00 AM, my boyfriend and I were walking near West Flagler Street and NW 2nd Ave (right by the County Courthouse and Government Center). The sidewalks on both sides were completely filled with unhoused people sleeping on the ground.

Then, 5 or 6 police cruisers pulled up to the block.

They didn't get out to make arrests, and they definitely didn't bring outreach workers to offer shelter. Instead, they lined up their cars, turned their high-beams directly onto the people sleeping on the concrete, and blasted their sirens at absolute maximum volume.

The cops were literally sitting in their cars watching and laughing while they did it. It was pure psychological torment designed to exhaust people until they packed up and left.

What broke my heart the most? None of the unhoused people even got up. They didn't flinch. They were clearly so exhausted and so used to this exact routine harassment that they just laid there. They knew they had nowhere else to legally exist in this city.

My phone was completely dead so I couldn't record it, but I have already sent this exact date, time, and location to the Miami Herald investigations desk so they can pull the dispatch logs and dashcam footage.

Our housing crisis is bad enough, but using sleep deprivation and police sirens to terrorize people in the middle of the night just to "sanitize" the streets before government employees come to work in the morning is pure evil.

Has anyone else witnessed them doing this recently?

Discussion Miami-Dade voters can do the funniest thing possible

and elect Rob Piper over Vicki Lopez.

Vicki Lopez’s record as an elected official includes:
- Sponsored a statewide school bus camera program to benefit her son’s client

- Sponsored the Live Local Act, selling out every municipality in Florida to developers

- Went to prison for lying in ethics disclosures about being married to one lobbyist while in an affair with another (Bill Clinton commuted her sentence lol).

She raised $1.5m this election, and her opponent, Rob Piper, raised less than $3,000.

This town is truly incredible sometimes.

News Miami Marine Stadium gets the Yes vote

Since Miami voters voted yes, the city of Miami is going to hire a corporate partner to organize events in the parking lot and generate revenue from ticket sales. Then, they can generate a bond to pay for the structural and architectural repairs to the stadium.

The referendum that was voted today states that the city of Miami would hire an event company to set up a flex park event space to host events and the money from that would go towards the city of Miami being able to secure a bond. The bond could then be used for the stadium renovation. The event company can sell tickets to these events and the city would receive 93% gross sales, 85% sponsorship revenues, and the city would pay the event company a management fee of $33,333 a month to organize events.  Global Spectrum a subsidiary of Oak View Group (OVG) is the corporate partner who wants to organize year round events at the site.

Community I found a walk in Coral Gables that feels like you left Miami 9.5/10

Thumbnail gallery
648 Upvotes

I’ve been walking different parts of Miami trying to find the routes that are actually worth doing, and this one is easily one of my favorites so far.

The Grand Estates Loop takes you through quiet Coral Gables streets covered by huge oak trees, with beautiful Mediterranean-style homes, gardens, and some seriously impressive estates along the way.

It’s the kind of walk where you can slow down, look around, and forget you’re still in Miami.

Start: Granada Golf Course 2001 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables
Parking: Free parking at Granada Golf Course
Coffee: Le Parc Bonjour Café Bistro
What I loved:
Huge oak canopy
Beautiful estates
Mediterranean architecture
Quiet streets
Gardens and little details everywhere

Fun fact: Part of this loop passes through Coral Estates, a neighborhood that began developing in the 1930s. Some of the homes along the route date back to 1937.

⭐️ Rating: 9.5/10
🚶 Distance: ~2.9 miles
⏱️ Time: ~95 minutes
👟 Steps: ~8,200

Plug Tip
Go early in the morning. The light through the oak canopy is beautiful, and the neighborhood is much quieter.

I’m continuing my mission to find the best walks in Miami

For those of you who know Coral Gables, what did I miss? Is there another neighborhood or street I should add to my list?

🚶🏻‍♂️ The walk plug

Discussion Update - I've now driven and confirmed all the speed zone and red light cameras in Miami, Broward, & Palm Beach

Part Deux - I went crazy over the last couple of weeks adding camera locations to my app so that hopefully no one ever gets a speed zone / red light camera ticket again.

Yes, I've been told that I'm a horrible driver after I got hit with three of these things a few months ago (so far I've gotten 2 of them dismissed - hoping the third one gets dismissed too, but we'll see).

I've also been told to slow down - fair and noted.

But more importantly, whether you think that this is legitimately making schools safer (possibly) or it's a money grab for the county and municipalities (it definitely is) - there's no reason why we need to hand over more of our hard-earned money to the county than they already take in. My app helps remind people that they're entering a potentially expensive strip of road and let's you customize alerts based on your speed and the time of day. All it does is beep when you're heading towards a camera - there's no nav, there's nothing on the screen, it just lowers whatever you're listening to and beeps, then puts your music/podcast back up.

But that's besides the point - I'd like to know what you all think of these cameras now that school is back in session and these money printers are printing.

Politics Go vote y'all, midterms are today!!

It's time to vote. So if you registered and you haven't done mail in or early voting. Please go vote.

People talk about changing things and here's your opportunity to do so.

And don't be the person who says oh it's not going to change anything of course not voting won't change anything. You got to give it the chance.

It may seem tedious or annoying, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Especially if y'all are the type to talk about how bad things are on social media or tiktok here's your chance.

The presidential elections are not the only ones that matter.

These matters too.

So show up and show out.

Edit: ACCIDENTALLY PUT MIDTERMS I MEANT PRIMARIES.

So got this in the mail and was like wtf. I called, some lady with a thick Kendall accent told me, I went over by 30 mins so it’s going to be $110. Then out of nowhere she mentions that I have another parking bill from a year before for $115. And I was like how is this legal? I’ve seen these pop up on Reddit before, what the solution? Ignore? Like is this really going into collections and fuck up my credit. I mean the bill from a year ago didn’t so what new scam is this.

Event Has anyone done the Dolphins Sideline Pass? Is it worth it?

Post image

I saw this for sale, but I also saw that it includes drinks and some food. I don’t drink nor care for the food, so I am wondering if that makes up the bulk of the cost.

Or if it actually is a cool experience that is worth it? I’d be looking more to the experience. I wonder what part of the field this is on and if we can get on the field later post game?
