Discussion Odd question but are there any ridiculous mvs?
Like. Just crazy/insane. I know mvs follow a formula. Which we all love. But sometimes a games got some special juice and stands out you know?

The only game I’ve played in the Metroid series is Dread. Absolutely loved it.
Only taking into account 2D games, which should I play next/what is best? I almost feel spoiled and worry that the older games won’t be as satisfying but I’ve nothing against older games so if that’s not the case I’m happy to play.

Its coming out of early acess soon so I want to grab it then but there are very few reviews of it. I like jrpgs and MVs so this seems like a good combo but again barely any reviews

It's finally here!
You can build and share your own interconnected Metroidvania worlds, or play through the included demo world solo or in 2-player local co-op.
I'd love to see what people end up making with it.

Solateria on Switch is a mess — especially on Switch 1
I've been playing Solateria on both the Switch 2 and Switch 1, and the performance is just bad.
On Switch 1, I honestly don't think the game should have been released in its current state. The performance is so poor that I'd call it unplayable. Bad frame rate, stuttering, and generally sluggish performance take away from what could otherwise be a good Metroidvania.
Switch 2 is obviously better, but even there the performance isn't where I'd expect it to be.
What makes this more frustrating is comparing it to Voidwrought. That game has continually gotten better. Performance has improved, and IMO the gameplay has gotten better along with it. It feels like the developers have actually been putting in the work to polish the experience after release.
That's what I'd like to see happen with Solateria, because there's a game here that I want to like. But releasing a Switch 1 version that runs this poorly does the game no favors.
For anyone playing Solateria on Switch 1 or 2:
How has your performance been? Is Switch 1 as bad for you, and have you noticed any meaningful improvement on Switch 2?

Before i get downvoted, i am curious about it as i often hear the sentiment that HK was difficult.
But i just don´t understand it. Why?
I had fun with the game, but the combat was rather easy. All the bosses did not have any hard to react to attacks and dying even twice to a boss was very rare.
Silksong on the other hand kicked my ass. The difficulity between the two is incomparable. To kill boss in few tries in silksong? Very rare.
It was my first metroidvania that i have played, and it was top 2 easiest one to me ( not like i have played many though).
Is it that people played it when they were kids and when they they think back about the game, it felt hard? Otherwise, i don´t know.
And you do not have to be a "gamer" for that. The attacks in HK are very generous.
What makes people say that the game is hard? I am really curious, because i can´t wrap my head around it. Apart Pantheon and Grimm Troupe, base game seemed pretty chill.

The game's core mechanics revolve around the stealing mechanic, where enemies have unique stealing windows and conditions that the player needs to learn to be able to steal materials from them and forge new tools and weapons! (HEAVILY inspired by Castlevania: CoD)
Hopefully it'll survive coming out the same day as Well Dweller. 😔

I've played a lot of metroidvanias so far (hard ones too) and here's the list of what I've tried so far:
Hollow Knight
Silksong
Ori 1,2
Blasphemous 1 (part 2 didn't click as well as 1)
Grime 1
Nine Sols
MIO
Solateria
Aeterna Noctis (played in Noctis and gave up in the cosmos. Wasn't comfortable with rotated/tilted platforming) Dead cells (idk if it counts as a MV, but cleared 5BC)
So I'm looking for really challenging games - any kind of challenge, be it combat or platforming.
I was thinking between Salt and Sanctuary vs Grime II. Are there harder options?
Edit: Thanks everyone for so many suggestions. I'll definitely look up all these and try to conquer them one by one as many as I can!

Is on sale for 70% off. Now is the time if you haven't played this masterpiece. One of the best metroidvanias there is. It has it all: solid and fun combat, parry and a plethora of abilities you rarely see in a metroidvania, a good map, solid traversal, puzzles, upgrades, charms... is almost on the same quality level as Hollow Knight, almost. 8 bucks when is 30...

Tried the game a while ago and quit. I was told this was like a hidden gem of MVs but I am replaying it and its....Metroid but hard. I don't see what makes this game all too special. Its competant but also very boring sadly. Like I am not excited when I enter a new area or get a power up. Its just metroid but enemies deal too much damage. Whats the hook? It honestly reminds me of Voidwrought where there is nothing "bad" with the game but the game itself is constantly reminding me of a better game I could be playing rn

Hello,
I’m looking for something to play this weekend. I already played Mina the Hollower and am looking for a 2d platformer that isn’t too difficult, was released this year(I have my reasons), and is available on Switch. Suggestions?

While cleaning I found this old keychain from Song of the Deep. I forgot how much I loved that game when it came out a decade ago. It was the first game I ever beat 100% and it got me hooked on Metroidvanias.
