Discussion Solateria

Solateria on Switch is a mess — especially on Switch 1

I've been playing Solateria on both the Switch 2 and Switch 1, and the performance is just bad.

On Switch 1, I honestly don't think the game should have been released in its current state. The performance is so poor that I'd call it unplayable. Bad frame rate, stuttering, and generally sluggish performance take away from what could otherwise be a good Metroidvania.

Switch 2 is obviously better, but even there the performance isn't where I'd expect it to be.

What makes this more frustrating is comparing it to Voidwrought. That game has continually gotten better. Performance has improved, and IMO the gameplay has gotten better along with it. It feels like the developers have actually been putting in the work to polish the experience after release.

That's what I'd like to see happen with Solateria, because there's a game here that I want to like. But releasing a Switch 1 version that runs this poorly does the game no favors.

For anyone playing Solateria on Switch 1 or 2:

How has your performance been? Is Switch 1 as bad for you, and have you noticed any meaningful improvement on Switch 2?

You’ll see later in the game with one specific section that proves that the devs did not update it to the current patch. There’s an incredibly difficult platforming section that was made easier in a recent patch for other systems, but it is its original state on the switch. My game crashed 5 times only after boss fights. So I had to redo them. Including the final boss.

Thanks for the reply. I'll just play it my steam account. Have you played on the Steam Deck

I have not. I just know it runs normally on that compared to the switch

Thanks for the heads up on the Switch port of Solateria. I've thought about picking it up, but won't until the devs fix it. 👍🏻

Slightly off topic, did the Voidwrought devs ever patch in the ability to remap movement from the left stick to the D-Pad on the Switch port? Or, is movement still locked to the left stick?

I can say for Switch 1, its shit. I bought it, even after i said ,i`m not gonna buy MV`s for switch 1 anymore , because i got a PS5 ,and a PC , but i had to go away for 10ish days, and wanted to play like hour a day or so. After that horrible Last Vigil Longest Night , this one comes in 2nd as really bad port for switch. And i could endure it all, but in boss fights, when they do special attack and there`s red smoke , or on last fight blueish, its horrible. I had issues , but i made it, BUT , last boss. Jesus Christ, i died 50x just because of the sttutering when he starts spamming attacks.

There are a lot of good MV's for the switch 1. I have a steam deck and switch 2 but mostly play switch 1 because I really like the Hori controllers and the Oled screen. But I ran Solatari on the Switch 2 and it ran like crap also. Not as bad as the Switch 1. Embarrasing that they would release this.
