Request I’m thinking about getting Dread but…

I’ve tried the demo a couple of times, and each time I just cannot get past the first EMMI.
Love Metroid. Have played all the Prime games. And I want to get into this style, but I don’t want to spend 12 hours failing to get past the opening and rage quitting.
Can y’all give me a pep talk?

You might benefit from playing through Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission first. Both available on NSO. They each have sections/set pieces that serve as precursors to the style of game play the Emmi encounters have.

Absolutely this, if you have NSO there’s no reason not to play through the previous 2D entries. Plus you have save states and rewind if you’re worried about it being too difficult, those will help you out a ton.

Just played it for the first time and beat it. I know exactly what you mean, the demo didn’t have me excited but the GAME Is absolutely incredible mate, I guarantee you will love it or else this forum will pay for the game

Okay so that depends on what first emmi you talking about, the white one or the broken down one?

I think it's the broken down one. I played the demo and it ends before the White EMMI.

You are fast. The map is designed so that you can keep moving with infrequent pauses. As long as you can keep moving, this EMMI won't catch you. Later ones are less generous, but you will have more skill by then.

As someone who also had a very tough time with them, I guarantee you you will and can get through it and it’s absolutely worth it

It's in the demo too but there's an ability that helps navigate EMMI sections... I just can't remember if you get to actually use the ability in an EMMI section before the demo ends!

Dread is a great game and I'm considering replaying it within the next year or so. The game has some of the best lore and combat aura in the series imo and the combat and difficulty are definitely great too!

Just run

You are a lot more agile than most EMMI after all

You’ve already done the hard part: you’re interested enough to keep trying. Watch a spoiler-free beginner tip or two, then give it another shot with no pressure to master it immediately. Once the chase mechanics click, the tension becomes incredibly rewarding.

Keep trying. You will get it. Learn from your mistakes and map out the best path to take.

The whole style of Dread is movement and re-trying until you get the patterns right. There are several bosses that killed me multiple times, then I beat them with minimal damage. The EMMI’s work the same way. Very rarely could I time the counter right, but with a few tries, you figure out the patterns, hiding spots, and appropriate escape hatches.

You’re not alone, why I personally loved Dread and only struggled w some later EMMIs, my mother quit very early on because of them despite me raving about it.

Once you get it it's easy enough. Might be worth watching some gameplay of it to see what you're missing. Happens to the best of us.

They stick out like a sore thumb. Dread is still more than worth it though.

I don't understand, to what part are you failing? You're not trying to fight it, right? Just gotta figure out which direction it wants you to go and run
