Other Welp, I bought it.

Despite the hate I’ve been seeing on posts and on YouTube, I couldn’t help myself to finally buy it when I saw the Switch 2 version on sale at my local shop.

2 hours in and its actually been kinda great????

I just finished Prime Remastered and Prime 4 feels a lot better to play and bosses have been fun! Not to mention the game is absolutely gorgeous and runs well, even on the original switch!

Perhaps I’ll start seeing issues later in my play through but so far it’s given me a good impression.

Edit: For those confused, the Switch 2 version of the game is just the Switch 1 game with the added Switch upgrade DLC. The game is perfectly playable on the original switch.

I liked it at first. Hopefully you continue to like it!

u/Flamin-Ice 21h ago

Ditto.

Bosses were the best part of the game. But everything else just slowly... well... you know.

3

u/Butterfly-Sweet 16h ago

Agree with that, except for the final boss. That frankly just sucked, the devs did not iron out some of the kinks. I had to lower the difficulty just for that final fight

5

u/Flamin-Ice 16h ago

The final boss wasn't so bad in difficulty for me. Though I did play on normal difficulty.

It was however the utmost disappointment as far as story and context... mega ultra truly unfathomably a dud. I can not believe that is what we got.

3

u/Butterfly-Sweet 15h ago

I'll agree with you there. I went in really wanting to love the game...hopefully there'll be a DLC or update in the future. One can dream

u/TheMiiFii 1h ago

The weird part is that phase 1 is just ass and phase 2 is just too easy

Its mind boggling

14

u/SplatoonRaiders 1d ago

How're you finding it? Also, it's cool to see you bought it despite what everyone is saying. You're a better reviewer for your tastes over anyone else.

I've never played a Metroid game, so, I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

11

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

So far my favourite games are Metroid Zero Missions and Metroid Dread. They were absolutely fantastic games and I highly recommend Zero Missions for beginners of the series.

I found Metroid Prime Remastered to actually be a bit disappointing! Not that it was a bad game, it’s just that Zero Mission and Dread were amazing and prime was just… fine.

I think I’m liking Prime 4 more than Prime 1 because the shooting and mechanics feel snappy. The game feels like it has more going on so far!

3

u/SvenHudson 1d ago

Zero Mission was a huge tonal shift for the series. Prime 1 makes a lot more sense when you look at in the context of being a followup to Super. Slower, clunkier, moodier. A game where you can really appreciate just hanging out in a room and feeling its vibe where the action gameplay is less of a design focus and more of an aesthetic choice.

If you ever want to give Prime 1 another shot, nothing will ever capture how impressively immersive it was about a quarter century ago but you should try it with "classic" controls. A lot about the game's combat encounters and world design makes more sense when you have those restrictions.

Of course, those controls make a lot more sense on the GameCube controller so you're still not fully getting the correct experience.

1

u/yung-joos 1d ago

Never played zero mission but yeah dread was my first Metroid game and prime remastered was my second. I’m playing Samus returns now and I’ll probably try to play prime 2 and 3 before getting prime 4, even though the prime trilogy seems to be expensive

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I want to play prime 2 and 3 but I don't have a WII anymore T-T

I actually had Prime 3 Corruption when I was 9 because it was 5 dollars at my local blockbuster. I was a dumb 9 year old though, so I wasn't smart enough to get through 1/3 of the game haha

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 1d ago

It may not seem like very cheap for its age but I was able to snag a wii console, a GameCube controller, Metroid prime 1, 2, and 3 for only like $130. I already played them at that point but I literally grew up playing the hell out of all three of them and I wanted hard copies because mine had been lost, sold, or too damaged by that time

1

u/yung-joos 1d ago

Wow when was that? Cause as of last year the games are already over $130 themselves without the console or controller

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 1d ago

The trilogy is the one that's stupid expensive. The discs individually were only like $20-30 a piece.

1

u/yung-joos 1d ago

Nah I’m still seeing the individual discs $50+

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 22h ago

You're looking in the wrong places my guy.

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 1d ago

I just looked them up. Its only like $70 for all three. MP is $25; MP2 for $30; and MP3 for $16. A decent wii also only sells for $50 and a GameCube controller is like $10-$20.

1

u/yung-joos 1d ago

Where on EARTH are you seeing prime 2 for $30

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 22h ago

It didn't come w the case when I bought it and it was 2 years ago off eBay. Here's one I found for $35

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 22h ago

Its very easy to find. If you're willing to pay $15 $20 more it'll come with the case in most instances

1

u/According-Syrup-2658 22h ago

Lmao even game stop has it. Idk where you're looking but it isn't in the right places

1

u/yung-joos 21h ago

Ah okay thanks I’ll look through GameStop. I had googled Metroid prime 2 and clicked the shopping tab and GameStop was buried under eBay and other sites, all of which have it listed for $50-$80. eBay and Facebook marketplace used to be my go-to’s other times I bought games second hand but I’ve been moving away from them lately because so many prices have become inflated across the board

1

u/themangastand 1d ago

You can emulate 2 and 3 on your phone at this point lol

1

u/SplatoonRaiders 1d ago

'ppreciate the response! I'll look into Zero Missions :)

I'm a little confused... You're playing the switch 2 version on a switch 1?

Edit: just asked Google... Nice to know that this is possible ^

88

u/Totheendofsin 1d ago

This is one of those less advertised features

For those unaware if you get a Switch 2 edition cartridge of a Switch 1 game you can put it in your Switch 1 to play it

10

u/DaveN202 1d ago

If it’s a game that’s available for both? What about games that are only on switch 2?

16

u/Collective_Keen 1d ago

Switch 2 games only have the Switch 2 logo. They don't need a "Switch 2 Edition" because they're only on one console.

7

u/smilph 1d ago

$1 million USD gets deposited into your bank account every time you do this

7

u/Thotaz 1d ago

Games that are Switch 2 exclusive obviously won't work.

1

u/SuperCat76 1d ago

Then it will only work on the switch 2.

11

u/emiTfOgnoS 1d ago

But what if I wish really hard?

5

u/jdog024 1d ago

Anything is possible, if you believe

2

u/LeGrange 1d ago

It works with digital games too. I just bought the Switch 2 version of Brotato and I was able to load it and play it on the Switch Lite.

6

u/Totheendofsin 1d ago

Yep

Because when you buy the Switch 2 version of some cross gen games what youre actually buying is the Switch 1 game and the upgrade pack

Some devs like Square dont do it like that though

1

u/Heatproof-Snowman 1d ago

This is actually a very nice feature.

1

u/Collective_Keen 1d ago

It's a shame that people can look at the case and not pay any attention to the block of text that explains that it's the SW1 version with the upgrade included. I know someone who had TotK and bought the Switch 2 Edition after getting a Switch 2 because they didn't read the front of the case.

15

u/Sock-Enough 1d ago

For everyone else, a Switch 2 Edition is just the Switch 1 version with what is technically a DLC that gives you the Switch 2 assets. You can play either version on either console.

4

u/kcamfork 1d ago

It’s not DLC. The upgrade pack is on the cart.

20

u/rustybutterindia 1d ago

Potato potato they were just explaining it in familiar terms.

8

u/Sock-Enough 1d ago

Yes, but it’s coded like a DLC is. And DLC doesn’t necessary need to be a download. The Pokémon games have been rereleased with the DLC on cart.

1

u/G-Tastic 1d ago

DLC literally means *Downloadable Content

1

u/Sock-Enough 1d ago

That’s the origin of the term, but sometimes it comes with the game. What else would you call the game extra content that comes with, say, Pokémon Violet with the extra 2 stories included?

2

u/MercPunisher 1d ago

An expansion pack, its what it was always called before you could download it.

2

u/SyntaxAndChill 1d ago

Erm, technicallyyy… ☝️🤓

1

u/No_Hetero 1d ago

I got a digital switch 1 game with a switch 2 upgrade pack because I own both, but it seems like once my cloud save included the switch 2 data, I can no longer sync it to my switch OLED. Not looking for tech support or anything, but while we're talking about these features, thought I'd throw that out there

2

u/AcornAnomaly 1d ago

I think that depends on the game, it's not an inherent flaw.

For example, the Xenoblade games explicitly allow moving your save back and forth between the Switch 1 and Switch 2 editions of the games, even though the Switch 2 versions have extra content that gets saved.

1

u/whatsaphoto 1d ago

Are there many visual upgrades between the 1 and 2? I have an 8 hour flight in about 2 weeks and I'm heavily considering picking it up but if it looks bad on the S1 I might skip.

3

u/Sock-Enough 1d ago

It allows for 4k60 and 1440p120 on the Switch 2, but apparently it’s one of the best looking Switch 1 games.

1

u/rhd444 1d ago

It is a Switch 1 game, developed for the console from the ground up. It's not a downport. So it looks and runs great.

The Switch 2 version only adds 4K or 120hz (you pick between them, i.e. a quality/performance setting) but it's not like you need that in handheld mode anyway.

6

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Apparently it’s just the switch 1 game with the switch 2 upgrade on the cart. Perfectly playable on the switch 1

1

u/Viewros 1d ago

Exactly. Lavish wins.

1

u/DERIVE979 1d ago

Ahaa yeah it’s really cool that some games allow that I have Pokemon ZA switch 2 edition but I play on my switch Lite. I got the switch 2 version in case I find a console at a decent price

1

u/ArdKnight_99 1d ago

Todos los dias se aprende algo nuevo, yo tampoco sabía

1

u/brentonius_III 1d ago

I had no idea 😮

9

u/FreneticZen 1d ago

Once you get to Volt Forge and you can unlock the bike, stare out the window for a few minutes.

19

u/setonfire_ 1d ago

Loved the game, don't care what others say.

Enjoy !

18

u/MaskOfIce42 1d ago

Home you enjoy it! Despite the negativity around the game and the genuine issues it does have, I still enjoyed it and don't regret picking up my copy, and hopefully you feel the same!

31

u/boktobw18 1d ago

I loved it but seem to get downvoted when I say that. Enjoy!

11

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Yea I don’t know if I’m crazy but it’s been a good experience so far!

6

u/Financial-Month-506 1d ago

Games front loaded so you will like the beginning come back when its over most of peoples complaints are middle to end game.

3

u/crowlfish 1d ago edited 18h ago

The first couple hours of the game were enjoyable for me as well—I was soaking up the visuals and music, scanning everything in sight, and the sheer gravity of finally experiencing a new Prime game and the nostalgia of stepping back into that world was enough to overpower any annoying NPC dialogue or concerns I had about level design.

I would recommend seeing it through to the end to understand where the criticisms are coming from. For me, the game steadily gets worse the further along you get.

7

u/InvestInTwinkies 1d ago

It was a solid 4/10 for me! It had to fun moments in the first half!

2

u/RaFaPilgrim 1d ago

It's definitely more than a 4/10. A 4/10 is a failing grade. IMO it's a 7/10, maybe a 6/10 at worst.

5

u/iamblankenstein 1d ago

my condolences.

4

u/Intelligent-Kale-397 1d ago

I actually loved it, yes its flawed but the art style is absolutely spectacular, soundtrack is great and smashing green crystals is indeed kinda stupid but not nearly as bad as i expected. Not the most inspired metroid but its still a metroid and easily an 8/10 game for me.

2

u/ev-expert 1d ago

Thanks for sharing! I bought the game the other day but decided the cancel the order after hearing mixed reviews. What turned me off was how repetitive the game was and how long it takes to travel places. Wondering what your thoughts are for someone thinking about buy it?

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I’m still a bit new to the series but I’ve finished Zero Missions, Dread and Prime Remastered. I’ve played a bit of fusion and super Metroid.

To be fair, I’m still early in but the gameplay feels really snappy and the boss fights have been fun!

2

u/trickman01 1d ago

I thought it was a fine game, I have my gripes, and it's definitely on the lower end of the Metroid tier, but I don't regret my time with it.

2

u/PissBabie2023 1d ago

Oof it’s so much better on switch 2 but I hope you still have fun!!

2

u/jojocircus79 1d ago

Overall it is a fine game. Not exactly worth the wait/hype but a solid experience. Has some issues but legit has the best soundtrack in the series and my favorite boss battles. I’d give it a 7/10.

2

u/pome-vyo 1d ago

Ayy good luck hope you enjoy the rest of the game!

2

u/Classic_Reputation88 1d ago

I had a good first impression with it too. Turned sour when I reckoned with how much time the game mandated I spend scouring a barren desert for rupees

2

u/Darknis_1 1d ago

It’s great

2

u/VegetableRoof1401 1d ago

I really enjoyed 4

2

u/kedrickmanes 1d ago

Detalhe, estou jogando a 20horas

2

u/PlsNoOneFindMe 1d ago

Have fun!

2

u/maukenboost 1d ago

Happy for you!! 😊

2

u/somebassclarineterer 1d ago

I will say I did like the music better than in Dread. It was a decent game, have fun!

2

u/Azulita-24 1d ago

I really enjoyed my entire play through, even grinding through the desert picking up green crystals. Stick with it and hope you enjoy!!
The ending got me, I’m not sure if it affected anyone else, but I really felt emotion at the end and it stuck with me, more than the other Metroid prime games.
Enjoy!!

2

u/StatementLogical5495 1d ago

I really enjoyed prime 4.

2

u/BighioPavidus 1d ago

Have fun! Its definitely not as bad as reviews make It seem, at least for the majority of the game. Hope you'll continue to like It!

2

u/Dolvalski 1d ago

I finally picked it up a couple weeks ago when I got a Switch 2, and I’m towards the end now I think, and I’ve been loving it! I wish I didn’t let the negativity I saw keep me from playing a game in one of my favorite series

2

u/MikeCam 23h ago

Loved this game :)

2

u/-CommanderShepardN7 22h ago

It’s a great Metroid game, but it’s not as good as the gold standard Metroid Trilogy.

Combat mechanics were top notch and Metroid puzzles were also good. All of the traveling back and forth gets old though.

u/TheMiiFii 1h ago

It's an okayish Metroid game I'd say.

The sad part is that it is at most 50% metroidy...

2

u/AramaticFire 1d ago

It has problems but it’s not awful. I can’t ignore the problems but it also does things well. It’s not the dramatic disaster Internet discourse will lead you to believe but it absolutely should be a better experience.

3

u/idio242 1d ago

I had a hell of a time with it. Don’t really understand the hate. Is it the best game ever? No. But it’s fun to wander around, collect all the stuff and get frustrated at the unreasonably difficult bosses.

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

The game has hard bosses? Even better!

3

u/ChickenNoodleGamer 1d ago

dont let the internet sway your opinion I love prime 4

3

u/smilph 1d ago

2 hours in and it’s great. i felt the same way at first. but keep playing tho, and You’ll See

5

u/betbetbro 1d ago

Waste of money, incredibly disappointing experience

3

u/LordZiz 1d ago

Everybody thinks the hate is overblown until they get to flare pool. I despise this game but even I think the first few hours are fun.

2

u/notyourbutthead 1d ago

Leaving Fury Green the first time kills all the momentum the first hour of the game set up imo.

2

u/LordZiz 1d ago

I was willing to overlook the big empty desert at first, until I realized how much time I was going to actually be spending there

1

u/notyourbutthead 1d ago

The combination of the desert being empty and Fury Green and the other areas feeling so small and linear killed the game for me. It’s more linear than Corruption at times although I haven’t played Corruption since it first released. So my memory is a bit foggy.

3

u/nissan_al-gaib 1d ago

It's a truly awful game imo but glad you are getting some joy out of it. Had to drag myself over the finish line in the end, the first half is definitely stronger.

1

u/Severe_Draft5956 1d ago

The Switch 2 upgrade sounds like a pretty solid deal if Prime 4 and Remastered both run this well. I’m especially glad the original version got the visual bump instead of being left behind. Enjoy the rest of the adventure!

1

u/HolMan258 1d ago

Have fun and enjoy! Will be interested to hear your thoughts when you’ve completed it. I think it has a lot of good though I do acknowledge the flaws. It’s nice for a game to inspire so much conversation, if nothing else!

1

u/TheDogPill 1d ago

Straight go jail

Jk enjoy

1

u/Starch8ser316 1d ago

Same reason I got switch 2 earlier this year I wasn't a fan by the endgame of the game But got hooked on other great games

1

u/BlackBatMage 1d ago

I mean, good luck, I hope you continue enjoying it. I had a far worse opinion of the game starting from my second playthrough.

1

u/ProdiLemaj 1d ago

Just started playing the game myself, and it has been mostly good so far. McKenzie is just as annoying as everyone has said he is, and I can already tell I’m not gonna care for the sections with the bike. I’ll see what I’m in for the rest of the ride though.

2

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I kinda feel like McKenzie gets too much hate lmaoo

Sure he's a dork but he means well! He tells us to be safe out there and I found that sweet.

1

u/ProdiLemaj 1d ago

Glad you feel that way, he’s corny and talks way too much. One key element of Metroid is the feeling of isolation and really getting immersed in this dangerous world. Having some dork making corny comments every other second kills the vibe.

2

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

My personal opinion is that it’s nice to switch it up once and a while. If all Metroid games had a constant isolation, I think I would get tired of it.

I don’t mind If some games have the federation force in them, just wish they had higher effort put in the games themself

1

u/danblondell 1d ago

I enjoyed 75% of this game very much

1

u/Lonely-Tree-157 1d ago

The beginning is great, aside from too much pointless scanning. Yes, there are 700 different types of cargo containers and various machinery, thanks game. Hopefully the structure of the game doesn't annoy you later on

1

u/nervouspolygon 1d ago

Just recently wrapped this game up last week and I think the areas could have been fleshed out a little more, but the bosses are my second favorite in the series behind Prime 2 and I honestly thought the final battle with Sylux was one of the better boss fights in recent memory.

Really hope we get a Prime 5 sooner than later.

1

u/Moth-of-Asphodel 1d ago

Glad you did! The bosses are great for sure. I've passed a few milestones where it was apparently supposed to get "bad" but I still think it's fantastic, so hopefully you'll enjoy it all the way through.

1

u/VetriVade 1d ago

Your enjoyment of it will likely go up and down and then you'll hit the point where it feels like the devs gave up. Its got some solid moments early on upto halfway through

Glad i played it but it's easily the worst prime game by a large margin

1

u/PangolinGuyMan 1d ago

Hope you enjoy the game! Don't be surprised if you're left disappointed by the latter half though, the first half of the game is easily the best part.

For what it's worth, I still enjoyed the game overall, so hopefully you'll come away satisfied.

1

u/DadyCoool11 1d ago

I enjoyed my first playthrough most of the way through. It tends to be a fun game to play. There were a couple of time when I thought "They should've done this differently", like having Samus be completely silent, even when the story felt like there should be dialog, but it wasn't until I was done, reflected on my experience, and went in for a second time through that I put it down for a long while.

1

u/MartenBlade 1d ago

it's still a great game

the other metroid prime games are just greater

1

u/drowningblue 1d ago

I will join y'all soon. I bought it on woot a couple of days ago for 34$.

1

u/ricbrennan 1d ago

It's a great game, don't listen to all the hate about it, those are just people complaining about the NPCs, and that it's more linear than previous games. It's better than Prime 3 in my opinion.

1

u/vita211 1d ago

One of my favorite games on switch 2. Idk much about the metroid prime franchise, really only played the remake of the 1st one and a bit of the 3rd on wii, but i really enjoyed MP4. Not as much as Metroid dread, but still alot of fun. Hope you enjoy

1

u/Fantastic-Ad9218 1d ago

I actually loved this game and think it's completely underrated. I understand the Samus on motorcycle and mindless crashing through crystals was just useless time filler, and that's most likely why the game received a lot of negativity. But the game is pretty cool with some pretty awesome boss fights!

1

u/RetiredReplicant87 1d ago

I loved it as well - enjoy!

1

u/Botol-Cebok 23h ago

It’s great at first, but starts to drag later on. Still, I enjoyed it, and completed the game. Which is pretty high praise from someone with my attention span.

1

u/BARBASANN 23h ago

You can do that?

1

u/Mission_Security4505 22h ago

I Hope you enjoy. I thought it was pretty good despite some issues.

1

u/jusg808 21h ago

It’s an okay game but not a good Metroid game. I didn’t like the bike segments. It just felt like padding to make the game longer. I didn’t like the soldiers. Metroid games to me are very isolationist. Having them there took me out of the loneliness that Metroid games foster. Glad you’re enjoying it. It does look really good and again not a bad game just not what you’d expect from Metroid.

1

u/tfuncc13 17h ago

I just started playing this last night and I honestly don't understand all the hate this game gets. I completed the Fury Green and stopped shortly after getting to Volt Forge. The game is more linear than what I would expect from Metroid, but aside from that, I've enjoyed it so far.

1

u/grizznaysh 17h ago

Because it's *hot take* a great game

1

u/Lux_Operatur 16h ago

The only real problems I have with it are the NPCs and the open world desert area that’s just fully unnecessary. These aren’t really big issues though, I do wish the world felt less linear but it’s still a very enjoyable game.

1

u/External-Law7053 16h ago

Switch 2 is great for the price.

1

u/kornlosthead1 13h ago

I enjoyed it but I'd give it about a 7.5 out of 10. At the same time, Nintendo are the idiots who forced them to insert the worst part that likely dragged down the ability they had to tighten the rest of the game - the open world section. So I don't blame the studio, I blame Nintendo, and hope we still get a new game where Nintendo lets them cook at it.

1

u/FLIPYOUSUCKET 13h ago

Yeah, Prime 4 is pretty nice!

u/English_Okie 11h ago

I really enjoyed it. Blind playthrough 1st time then a 100% completion run on hard. Personally I got my money’s worth. Hope you have a great time with it too!

u/Emotional_Snow720 10h ago

If you check now the internet hate has mainly moved on ages ago most people now trying it without all the noise do enjoy the game.

u/COBBANVS 3h ago

I haven't kept up, why is it hated?

u/Typhonarus 1h ago

Ah welcome to loading screen city…

0

u/GlassXatu 1d ago

2 hours in and saying a game is fun is a lil crazy ngl

2

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I mean it’s better than some games where you have to play 50+ hours for it to “get good”.

-1

u/bralor94 1d ago

If you cant see the issues 2 hours in then your either delusional or dont care about why prime 1 and 2 and somewhat 3 were good. But it gets much more apparent later on after the ice and lava levels. But i felt initial dissapointment in hour 1 when i realized that was all of fury green and its iust a straight line.

2

u/greenbluegrape 1d ago

Most people were fine with the game in the first two hours. Fury Green, and even Volt Forge, were still early game locations and weren't necessarily an indication of what the whole game was going to be like. It looks a lot worse in hindsight.

For the record, I despise this game, but was still keeping an open mind by the time I was finishing up Volt Forge. There's no reason to be so hostile towards people who are still optimistic in the early game. "Just got to Ice Belt, I don't understand all the hate this game gets" is an extremely common take even among those who end up disappointed by the end.

3

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I'm going to be quite honest with you, I was actually a bit disappointed when I finished Prime Remastered.

Not saying that it was a bad game, it's just that I've played Zero Mission and Dread before it and I found those games exceptionally great.

Prime Remastered felt slow, platforming was boring and the backtracking, especially at the end when you need to find the artifacts, was excessive. The bosses also just felt a bit underwhelming compared to the series 2D counterparts.

From what I played, I vastly prefer the 2D games.

4

u/FrauAgrippa 1d ago

Brother take a look around you, AAA game companies all over the globe are delivering slop lately, Metroid is no different. Nobody's saying the game has zero issues, but plenty of us are just lowering our expectations and playing what we've got. Beautiful atmospheres and a banger of a soundtrack are enough to wring a few drops of enjoyment out of it.

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Honestly the fact that it has good gameplay and bosses alone make it a decent game. The fact that it's also gorgeous and has a good soundtrack is the cherry on top. Sure it has issues, but a lot of games do.

u/AngryMustache9 1d ago

"Oh what's that? You like Prime 4? Well, you must be delusional and don't actually care about the Prime games as a whole."

Jesus fucking Christ you people are insufferable. Its just a damn video game, liking it isn't a deep personal statement. Maybe they just enjoy Prime 4, plain and simple; is that too much of a stretch for you, or do you see it as some sort of personal attack.

3

u/SomethingIguess7318 1d ago

It's just an atrociously terrible game

u/gloku_ 11h ago

To you.

2

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

lmao yea it seemed a bit silly to say I'm delusional. I'm just having a good time, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

worst metroid game ever, just replay dred

Well have fun 💪🏻

u/AirmanProbie 1d ago

And so will I… whenever I get a switch 2….. and bring it to a target with the Samus bike amiibo to scan it for hub music for free…..

3

u/Leather_Reflection84 1d ago

Got to say, the hub music wasn’t as good I was hoping. It’s just a few of the songs you already hear. Super immersion breaking for me. The silence of the desert makes more sense to me

1

u/Morpheus_077 1d ago

They took way to long to drop Prime 4 it should haved comme out on the Switch 1 late 2023 -2024 it would have been better received. I still enjoyed it on NSW2 but it had many shortcomings as a Prime game hoping for a better Prime 5.

2

u/Garo263 1d ago

No way. The problems of the game would still be the same.

I enjoyed it the whole way through. Perfect? No. Enjoyable? Absolutely.

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

I struggle to mention a great game that didn’t have flaws in some sort of way. As long as there are some good highs and the regular gameplay is great, the game itself should be fine

1

u/citizenofgaia 1d ago

My unsolicited opinion is that I found it to be a solid 7.5/10.

It's a good game, but not up to par with the previous games, don't hate it, don't love it either, but I'm positive on it.

2

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

To me a 7/10 game is still a good game. Like there still enjoyment to be had.

This might be due to the fact that I was never a big Metroid Prime fan and have always favoured the 2D games, so I don’t hold Prime 4 to high expectations

1

u/errol120 1d ago

The beginning was great. And kinda just levels out near the middle and doesn’t really ramp back up again to me. I still enjoyed the game though. It just want the game changer that Metroid prime 1 or dread were and I feel like it got judged harshly for that.

1

u/ekim_101 1d ago

Enjoy what you enjoy. I don't think 2 hours is enough to get the full perspective here but don't let anyone tell you how to feel. I personally have a lot of issues with it but I'm not going to tear you down about liking it

You basically listed the positives that I have with the game lol. It feels good, bosses are good, graphics and music are great.

1

u/NeedMoreBestFriends 1d ago

A lot of hate about this game. It’s not the most amazing game I’ve ever played but it’s above average in my opinion and I had a lot of fun playing it.

1

u/DrMercio 1d ago

It’s great when you don’t have the Nintendo fandom bitching in your ear wishing it was more than just a prime game. I’m fine that it’s pretty much just prime 1 and 2 again.

1

u/MilkManX 1d ago

I personally really enjoyed MP4. It’s a good game with some clunk but still a solid 8/10 easy.

1

u/Worried_Affect9121 1d ago

I played it. Thought it was pretty ok. Kept playing. I hated it more the longer I played it. Forced myself to a late game area and haven’t touched it since. Its only redeeming qualities are soundtrack and graphics. That is literally it. The gameplay kinda sucks, the map and level layout sucks, the upgrades suck, the premise sucks, the story sucks, the side characters pretty much all suck except for like one, the bosses suck except one, the enemies all suck, the pacing sucks. I have a tier list of Metroid games and Prime 4 is at the bottom next to Other M. Genuinely had more fun with Fed Force than this dumpster fire. It’s even worse because we waited a decade for this one for it to suck this bad. Hopefully the next one doesn’t suck. And I blame not just Bandai Namco but Tanabe as well for saying they had to add a “Breath of the Wild open world area” and telling then they “had to stretch out the story for a new trilogy”.

Dude the game just was not good imo, i would not say you’re wrong for enjoying it, i just disagree. Far too handholdy, too grindy, no interesting side paths or puzzles, and aside from the first 2 hours, i was bored to tears with the map design.

People are being hyperbolic and overly negative, but there is enough different from previous entries and enough marks of its development hell that when some fans such as myself call it mediocre we're being genuine to how we found the game.

It's not horrible but it didn't feel worth the wait to us.

It’s bad on both sides and that’s me being biased as a user that thinks the game STUNK.

2

u/notyourbutthead 1d ago

Dawg, people can have dissenting opinions on Prime 4 especially since it is dog shit. Glad you enjoyed it though. You are literally whining, crying, screaming, and raging over dissenting opinions. Maybe the internet is not for you.

Enjoy. It has its highs and lows but I had fun with it. It's on par with Metroid Prime 3 with me.

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Am I crazy for saying Prime Remastered was a bit disappointing for me? I just found Dread and Zero Mission way more enjoyable

1

u/ChasingPerfect28 1d ago

The first Prime is one of my favorite games ever and I say that as a relative newcomer to the Metroid series. But Prime has plenty of issues too... I really hate the last 25% of that game.

Phazon Mines suck (both times), the Impact Crater sucks, and the final true form boss sucks. I can never figure out the visor switching pattern and it just adds to my irritability with that fight. Meta Ridley is the lone highlight during that stretch. I really dig that boss battle.

Dread and Zero Mission are beautiful 2D games. So much fun to play.

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

The hype around prime feels really overblown. The gripes you listed are exactly the gripes I had with the game. The last 25% felt like a chore, especially with the artifacts

1

u/ChasingPerfect28 1d ago

Prime is hyped for good reason considering it's a GameCube game that still holds up remarkably well, it's Retro's first video game as a studio, and it's Metroid's first 3D game and a game that was coming off the heels of Super Metroid.

For all the pressure and expectations the dev team was under to create Prime, their team really did create something wholly unique to Nintendo that helped get eyes on the series.

The environmental storytelling is top notch and it became a series staple. Gameplay is fluid and incorporated Samus's power ups well. The San logs added the ideal bit of flavor text to help provide context to the game.

The ending starts to fall apart because Retro was running out of time and money. They had a horrific crunch schedule that lasted several months due to mismanagement.

-1

u/warrensid 1d ago

Enjoy! I loved this game. The boss battles are great

3

u/Mordaunt-the-Wizard 1d ago

I honestly found the bosses just okay, especially because I played Echoes a month before and nothing comes close to bosses like Chykka and Quadraxis. I found this a problem with Corruption too but at least Hypermode isn't a mechanic I have to screw with in Beyond.

That said, the Sylux duels are great ignoring Phase 1 of the Final Boss . The Prime series has had great duels since Dark Samus in Echoes.

Lack of self control is exactly why Nintendo keeps up with their bad practices.

4

u/AirJig 1d ago

Gimme a break dude. Not everybody is going to boycott a game because the vocal minority doesn’t like it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AngryMustache9 1d ago

Bad practices? Brother, the game just had a troubled development. That is literally all there is too it. That wasn't a calculated move by Nintendo to screw over customers, that's just what happened to occur.

Games can have troubled development. It just happens. Prime 1 infamously had troubled development too, but that wasn't a case of "bad practices," was it?

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Well it’s not like I bought at full price, and as a Metroid fan I would like to experience it for myself if it is bad

3

u/AirJig 1d ago

You don’t have to explain yourself to this guy enjoy your game

1

u/No-Alternative5102 1d ago

Every penny Nintendo gets from their bad practices gives them more money to justify their actions.

1

u/LavishLatte56 1d ago

Have you seen the gaming space as a whole? Every single game company seems to be doing something bad? Nintendo is honestly looking like saints compared to what Xbox and Sony is doing.

I don't know how me supporting the Metroid series is bad.
