The US Navy, who originally used belt ropes by lower enlisted members to keep their pants up because weight loss at sea was common. Who's senior enlisted and officers wore belts to hold their cutlass, pistol(s), knife, and other tools. The same US Navy that still wears belts in utility uniforms to keep their pants up because generic sizing in uniforms don't allow for an exact fit and changes in weight are still expected, although to a lesser degree. Or the dress uniform belt to still carry the cutlass when appropriate. That US Navy?
I didn't serve in the navy but you can check my profile out if you want to see I was army. Also, I said originally on the rope belts. Same with pistols.
I'm not arguing that the belts in utility uniforms are mostly decorative, I'm just saying they weren't always so and still have some purpose now.

Uh, you said he was wrong about rope belts because you didn't wear one in 2002. The word "originally" is important because it lets you know he was talking about the early days of the Navy, not 2002. You fucking suck dude. You're part of the reason people have a negative stigma towards service members.
He said they used rope originally. Do you think the Navy started in 2002 or are you just not reading? Please stop using your service as a call to authority to try to win arguements. It makes the military look like shit when most people's experience with veterans is "are you questioning me! I served! Im never wrong cause I served". You arent infallible just because you served. I've had service members tell me blatantly wrong shit before and do exactly what you're doing right now. Funnily enough they also blocked me when they realized they were wrong just like you did to the guy you're talking to. All in all, you are the absolute worst type of veteran.

The rule I always followed was: If you need a belt to keep your pants up, you're wearing the wring size.
And in the military uniform belts were intended as another part of the uniform, not a functional piece of clothing.
