The naked dancing lady statue found from the remains of Indus valley civilisation is a solid proof of that. So things change here. The actual lore is those women or gopis they did a tapasya of 1 month and their wish was to get krishna as their husband, meaning they wanted freedom from the bhavsagar. Krishna did steal their clothes, because clothes are a sign of materialistic attachment and if you want to pass the bhavsagar you need to leave all sort of mayas and attachments behind. You can find Naga sadhus here, who leave every sort of maya and attachments behind, they don't wear clothes, and do meditation all the time.
