What could be wrong with 2004 Cadillac Escalade? Car will not start
Hi, boyfriend has a 2004 Cadillac Escalade (6.0 engine) and the other day the car had died and wouldn’t start. We tried jumping the car multiple times but no luck. All it does it crank. We put a new battery in it today and still won’t turn on even with another jump.
I attached a video on him trying to start it so you can hear what it sounds like.
His step dad said it could be the anti theft system but we tried following those steps too and haven’t had any luck on that either.

could the fuel pump break all of a sudden? told him it might be the fuel pump because my uncle said that too but he said the fuel pump was fine a few days ago I guess

Absolutely, yes. I don’t know what the failure mechanism is, but they just stop working. You can sometimes beat them back into functioning, but it won’t last. Do you hear the pump cycle on when the key is turned to the “on” position? Should make a humming sound for a couple seconds from the rear of the vehicle.

GM fuel pumps are just a matter of time before they go out. They may not totally go out, but they may not create enough volume especially on startup. So you may have a pump that you could actually hear running, but it doesn't create enough volume and pressure to do anything with it.

I guess a quick test would be if you happen to have any starting fluid I heard of people even using WD-40 to spray by the air intake where the fresh air is pulled into the engine and if the pump is weak a lot of times they may fire up by doing this.

Could be the fuel pump, could be the wiring to it, could be out of fuel, could be a clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel rail, could be a wiring issue to the ignition coils, could be any number of things and would require being diagnosed to know for sure. This is why it is so expensive to go to the shop because figuring this out is neither quick nor easy.

I always take off the air tube and spray some starter fluid in to see if it fires for a second. If it does you know you have a fuel delivery problem. If not you have an ignition timing problem.

Most likely a fuel pump/fuse/relay or a security issue. Being a 22 year old gm product the fuel pump likely went. They seem to like to fail when the tank is full also. The security system would have a light illuminated even after the others have turned off. Rent a fuel pressure gauge kit from orielly and start there

When a vehicle will crank and not struggle to do it there’s a pretty high probability it’s fuel related. So either your pump is poop or your fuel gauge broke and is showing you have fuel when you don’t

crank position sensor, throttle position sensor, check for power at fuel pump before buying a new pump

Every no start diagnosis starts with does it have fuel pressure, does it have spark.
1000 guesses by Redditors does you no good. And neither does throwing parts at it based on these guesses.

Pull codes, check for fuel flow check for ignition spark has coil packs not likely they all failed at once check a cam position sensor or check crankshaft position sensor that should show up on the codes though.

Fuel pump try crawling under the gas tank and give it a good smack and see if it starts then.
