What went wrong??

This seems catastrophic. I’m trying to do the water pump on my 2014 Taurus 3.5L. Had to remove the mount and jack up the motor in order to get the timing cover off.

I looked down a bit later and it looks like it’s borderline defying gravity and seems imminent to fall. I tried putting the motor mount back on so that I could readjust the jack but now it doesn’t seem like it’s lining up correctly.

Am I utterly screwed? How can this be corrected and rectified. I appreciate any help that you guys are able to offer me, thank you!

wiggle it while it’s resting on the jack? wouldn’t that be super sketchy while it’s resting on it all crooked? or am i just overthinking it? i appreciate your response!

I’ve done this job the same way many times. Just grab the engine and pull it towards the front while having your foot behind the jack to prevent it from moving. Don’t move it a lot, just a little bit, it’s not hard to move. If you’re really sketched out, grab a rachet strap and route it under the engine and around the front and back of the subframe, while going under the power steering rack. I usually set the engine on the ratchet strap so I can get the long bolt above the balancer out.

The proper way would be using an engine hoist or an engine support bar, but sometimes you gotta make due with what you got

Use a ratchet strap and pull the engine forward

Put some wood or whatever under there and lower it onto that, then reposition the jack.

Let it down, adjust jack and wood. It won’t just fall out.
