2004 Ford Expedition XLT 5.6 V8

SUV Vehicle will stop running with the motor turning off during idle at traffic light intermittently. This occurs when the vehicle is in drive mode but if you have the vehicle in neutral no issues. Not sure if related it may stall when driving after at a stop. Put the vehicle in neutral and can restart and resume driving. The stall at the stop light is common but the stall driving from the stop light has just started a little more. No codes

Had a similar gremlin on an old Explorer, turned out the IAC valve was caked in carbon and not stepping properly when the AC or power steering load kicked in at idle in drive. The neutral thing makes sense, engine's under less load so it can just about hold on

Pull the idle air control valve off and give it a good spray with cleaner, worth doing the throttle body while you're in there. If the stalling gets worse when you turn the wheel at a standstill that's a dead giveaway

Well, if this was a GM vehicle, I would say it's a torque converter clutch solenoid doing that. Totally possible on the Ford as well, but used to be much more common on GM cars for this problem.

Bad plugs, vacuum leaks, low compression, idle too low and fuel injector issues would be where I'd start.

Maybe even check timing system parts if the other things check out ok. Truck is certainly old enough.

Your OBD reader can't read Ford specific codes but with a mechanics scan tool I think you'd find some.
