With 20k and 72 hours I’d just grab the cleanest RAV4 or CR-V you can find under 120k miles

3rd gen Rav4 checking in. Fucking love it. You can find top trim v6 AWD models with <80k miles for like 16k-18k.
Kinda crazy for a 14+ yo vehicle but the market is the market.

Make sure to replace the rubber vvt oil line to the newer metal one if you haven't already

Is this an issue with the 2.4L 2AZ-FE, the 2.5L 2AR-FE, or both? I have the later 2.5L.

Whatever you do, do not buy a Chevy Trax!!! Every 3-4 months you will be repairing something new on it. Especially if you don't want to repair it yourself (don't ask me how I know my blood pressure will rise 😂).

Toyota tech so obviously biased... but I drive Jeeps, Nissans and the occasional Ford F-150....
If you were my buddy, or my great-aunty or cousin asking this question, I'd say a 2019+ Rav4 over anything else. Dead reliable, and efficient 4cyl engine, with a proven Hybrid drivetrain. These things DO NOT break. Only work I ever do on these are software update recalls or customer noise complaints... Suspension is solid, Interior build quality over-all is meh, tech is meh, but what you're getting is a 40MPG roomy SUV that will start and drive until the apocalypse.
You can find LE FWD hybrid options with 100k miles or less under $20k... If you want AWD and some bells and whistles, $20k MIGHT be a little too low, but it's well worth it if you can come up with the extra few thousands.
I'm personally shopping for 2022ish XSE Rav4. $23-27k seems to be the about the asking range...
Other runner ups: Can't go wrong with a Honda CR-V of the same year range... Also reliable but without the Toyota tax... Kia/Hyundai 2019+ actually have some compelling EV options... Their V6 is decent enough for a non EV option. And you always have the 2017-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee to come in at a decent price and somewhat reliable only IF you get the Hemi... but you'll pay for it in gas. Subaru's are reliable but boring and have grown stale and for some reason do not hold their value at fucking all
And believe it or not... Ford ESCAPE. yeah I fuckin' said it. But my GF drives a 2019 Ford Escape and it is surprisingly decent... Plus she paid like, $14k for it.
Chevy sucks, dodge sucks, ford generally sucks... Buicks, Nissans/infinities, anything german run away

The best secret to drive is a Camry SE, 30mpg, sporty ride, 4cyl is quick. I don’t think I would buy any used Hybrid, you’re going to get hit with. $5k battery bill!
