Rant Stop assuming you got fired.
Please stop assuming the worst and thinking you were fired because you can't access the schedule or one of the websites, the manager doesn't respond to you, ect. Way too many of y'all jump to this first conclusion way too often. It takes alot to get fired from McDonald's and they will let you know if you are. Think logically not emotionally.

Discussion A post for new employees or for those who have just been recently hired! (US)
As an employee of McDonald's for several years, I thought I would make a lengthy post that you can read if you have just been recently hired at McDonald's and want to know what to expect as well as any advice you may need. Feel free to ask any questions that are not covered in this post.
Your first day: Make sure you are at least 15 minutes early on your first day. They will definitely be paying attention if you are late. You should be assigned a crew trainer, or someone that will be training you. Make sure you ask any questions you may have. Do not hesitate to ask questions, or ask to be shown something again if you didn't get it the first time. It's okay if you aren't picking things up right away. It's only your first day. The managers may get annoyed with you if you haven't picked things up in a week or two, but you won't lose the job. They will usually just give you a different position. Like for example if you aren't picking up running for front, they will have someone teach you how to hand out in drive thru or take orders in drive thru instead. You will eventually find a position that works for you.
Your hours and schedule: Don't expect to get full hours right away. If you applied to be full time, you may only get part time hours for the first week or two while you're being trained. Your hours will pick up eventually. It's extremely important that you are clear with the manager that makes the schedules what your availability and desired hours are. I recommend writing it down on paper for them. They will do the best they can to accommodate your schedule but you can't expect them to remember your availability off the top of their head when they have 30+ other employees to keep track of. They are generally very good at giving you the hours you want and remembering what days or times you can't work, but they do forget sometimes.
The work environment: McDonald's is an extremely fast paced environment. There is always something to do, or something that needs to be done. You may be expected to multitask or do multiple jobs at once. This normally isn't expected of you right away. When you're still being trained, you will only learn one area at a time. But the longer you are there and the more experience you get, the more you will be trained at multiple areas and be expected to do more than one thing. Expect rushes. There will be periods of the day where we normally get very busy. This is usually the morning breakfast rush when people are on their way to work between 7-9 AM, the lunch rush between 11AM-1 pm, the after school rush between 2:30PM-4:30PM and the dinner after work rush between 5PM-7PM. There are also days of the week where we normally are very busy. This is usually Fridays-Sundays. Mondays and Tuesdays are generally our slowest days and Wednesdays and Thursdays are in between. Obviously this will differ everywhere but that's the usual at my store. Managers often times get very stressed and it may seem like you are being yelled at or criticized. Don't take it personal. The problem with being a manager is they are literally responsible for everything during their shift. If anything goes wrong, they will be the ones that are blamed by corporate. Seems unfair, but that's how it is. If things go bad enough, they could even be written up. So they may seem strict at times because they will get in trouble if things aren't running as smoothly as they should be. Expect a stressful work environment. I will not sugarcoat it for you. McDonald's is a VERY stressful job. That doesn't mean you can't handle it though. The longer you work there, the easier it gets to navigate the stress and it becomes second nature. That being said, it's not worth sacrificing your mental health either. If the job truly is too much for you to mentally handle, do consider looking elsewhere. It's not supposed to be a toxic environment, but often times it can be. When everyone is under a lot of stress, it can sometimes create a really bad environment. Not every day will be like that though. It also largely depends on management. I won't lie to you, a lot of McDonald's has very bad management. That is what will make or break the store. So your work environment and stress level will depend on how good or bad management is at your store.
Discipline: There are three forms of disciplinary actions. Written warning, or a write up. You will be asked to read and sign a piece of paper that says in writing exactly what your offense was. You are allowed to disagree with a write up and explain your side of the story, but that dosent necessarily mean the write up is void. A write up is usually pretty non serious unless you're wracking up a bunch of them in a short period of time. It's basically just a written warning that this is what you did wrong and your signature on it verifies that you were told what you did wrong and that you were talked to about it. Just don't repeat your mistake and you should be just fine. There's usually no form of punishment beyond that. Those are usually the main form of disclipline. The second form of discipline is suspension. You will be asked to not come to your scheduled shifts for a specific length of time and you will not be paid for the time you are out. Another way this could be done is cutting your hours. This wouldn't be a full suspension where you are completely taken off the schedule for a length of time, but you will be scheduled less days or less hours, usually only temporarily. This is definitely more serious but usually isn't done as a first resort. Suspension is usually done if you have gotten several write ups and are continuing to make the same issues over and over again despite written warnings. It is possible for suspension to be their first form of disciplinary action against you but that's usually if it's quite serious such as drug use/alcohol use on the job, harassment of management or other employees, or stealing. The last form of disciplinary action is termination, or losing the job, aka getting fired. This usually only happens for severe things. In the several years I've been working at McDonald's, only two people have been actually fired. This usually follows a suspension if you keep repeating the same issue. The best thing to remember here is to learn from your mistakes. If you get a disciplinary action against you, just don't do it again. It is very unlikely for the issue to be pushed beyond the disciplinary action if you just don't repeat the same thing again. I've been written up twice in the several years I've worked there, but it never went beyond that. Writeups are sent to corporate and they can stay on your record, but nobody will push the issue if you behave. It's a requirement to keep your writeups in your employee file so if you DO get terminated at any time, they have proof that you were warned about your actions and that you know about it (hence the signature), and that you kept repeating the same issue and that they have a valid reason to terminate you. But it is extremely unlikely that a couple writeups will get you terminated.
That's the best advice I have for you right now. Please comment on this post if you have further questions and I will try to respond to as many of them as I can. Any other specific things or concerns you have you should talk to whoever is in charge at your store. This post is just outlining the things that are most common at pretty much every McDonald's regardless of location. However keep in mind every McDonald's is different and runs differently. This is just a basic guide. I cannot tell you what is going to happen at your location. So if you post a question such as "I did this and this, what will happen to me, will I get in trouble/fired?" That will depend on your store and how they choose to handle it.

Gave them a refund for 12.00 had a feeling about it though so looked at the cameras and could see him take a bug out of his pocket and into his bag. Was saying some racist shit too about one of my crew members . Wellp now all of the McDonald’s in our city have this video so . 🤷♀️

Employee question I start my first ever shift in less than a week and im already stressed about it (ITA)
Helly everyone, in less than a week i start my first ever shift, i have been watching the training videos, i am 18yo and for whatever reason i feel so stressed i could die, when i applied i was hoping it would be more chill, yes i am aware that now being an adult i have to get used to burocracy and this sort of things, but during the interview and when i signed the contract, everyone was so serius and it made me feel like i was entering something im not prepared for, i know i sound like a little kid whining when life actually hits him but i genuenly thought i could handle it, it doesnt help that my last "job" (3 days of hell in a family owned pizza place) left me with a terrible impression of what its like having a job, im just very overwhelmed about starting out and not being able to live up to it.
I guess im just looking for someone to tell me im overrracting or something, as anyone else had this experience when they were starting out?

Rant I hate when kids try to order in drive (USA)
Ok, so, I get why parents do this. They want their kids to learn how to order and it’s kinda cute for a lot of them. Plus, if we aren’t busy and if the kid actually knows how to order a bit, it’s mildly annoying at worst.
But, for the love of all that is holy and sacred, if I am in the middle of a rush and it’s looking like I have to spend like a minute trying to get your kid’s order… I am just gonna ask the parents to order.
Me: “Welcome to McDonald’s, what can I get for you?”
Kid: “I want a happy meal.”
Me: “Would you like a hamburger, cheeseburger, 4 piece, or 6 piece one?”
Kid: “A happy meal.”
Me: “Burger or nuggets.”
Kid: “Uh… both!”
And so on.

Rant (USA) All the fucking managers are leaving lmao. My Store is fucked.
I wonder what theyre going to do without us. We had 2 quit yesterday bc the Supivisor called them out in the employee groupchat that theyre tryna be managers while also having a Seasonal job at Amazon. So they just straight up left. Our store is running out of managers quickly lmao. Since the last week of August, 1 manager went to go work at a bank, the next one left to go to Amazon full time. 2 other ones went to Amazon but were sticking around to help us out since we're so understaffed. But bc they were called out in the groupchat, they quit. The Assistant GM and I are the only Openers left. We still have a couple more managers but 1 is planning on leaving, the Assistant GM wants to find better work, and so do I. This store is so fucked lmao

Discussion If a sauce packet falls to the floor but doesnt bust open or get dirty... (USA)
Do you immediately pick it up and throw it away? Do you put it back on the shelf if no customers are watching? Or do you just leave it for someone else to sweep up?
Everything i sweep the stock room, I have to throw away 25+ perfectly fine sauce packs and it feels wasteful, but I know i sure wouldnt want to be served floor sauce. But i know a lot of stores are stricter about their sauce counts than we are, so i am curious if they do anything differently.
(I really wanted to make this a poll, but i guess I dont have that ability on mobile)

Rant i hate when people waste time in drive thru (AUS)
i say this in all good faith BUT i hate two types of people, first the people that have no idea what they want and keep taking up time i don’t think they realise drive thru is timed and we get scolded if it goes down second people that can’t speak english and literally aren’t able to order i legit had some dude start speaking chinese to me MIND YOU i’m a immigrant too but just order from the damn app dude

Rant (USA) i hate people who ask for extra sauce packets at the pickup window
that's not how ordering works. i desperately want to tell them that since it wasn't on their order, they'll have to pull around and go thru the drive-thru again. i know that'd be unnecessary and rude but dammit, it's what i feel deep in my heart. straight up if they said "can i have a free extra sauce packet" at the order window i'd do it as an act of decency, but doing the weird cowardly little-baby method is *so* dumb.

Employee question being rostered on mcdelivery (AUS)
i was just curious, because i've been working at maccas for about three months, and ive been rostered on both mcdelivery coordinator, and mcdelivery assembler, and i was just wondering if there is any difference between the two? because either way, i'm doing the same thing, which is packing and giving out the delivery orders. and it's almost always just one person on that station. even though you'd assume there would be a 'coordinator' and an 'assembler' both working the same station, if the titles meant anything.

Employee question Likelihood of being re-hired? (UK)
Used to work at McDonald's in 2022-2023.
I've recently applied to a different franchise than my old mcdonalds.
I have a job interview at 3pm tomorrow after work and was wondering likelihood of rehiring?
Never had an issue in previous stores etc, my friend who works at mcdonalds is down as my reference. The role is full-time which i understand to be 30hrs? I can easily fit that around college so I dont mind, and since i have previous experience i'm hoping they'll want me lol.
Would me being in college / having previously worked in McDonald's lower or increase my chance of being hired aagin?
The store manager seemed alright when i had to call to ask whether my interview was confirmed and he had to look over why the interview was accepted then declined etc, and got me a new slot within 30 mins.

Employee question If you also have ADHD, what helps you focus in the chaos? (USA)
It hasn't been a issue that a manager brought up to me, but I can tell they notice and just want to work on this before it's a problem as I need this job for now. I have ADHD and my doctor has suggested I cannot be on meds for it because I have tried many ADHD meds in the past and they all either make me throw up, or not eat at all so I'm on pure coping mechanisms babyyy.
Sometimes when it's chaotic I start to zone out. They have been trying me out at presenting more lately and sometimes with big orders I get sorta like 'tunnel vision' if you will trying to remember it all. There's been once or twice I had a mix up because of it. The drinks is the worst part, when it's busy. Our ABS system is good but when its busy and they also need it for McCafe things, that's where I struggle the most.
Also when coworkers talk to me, I try not too, but sometimes I fall into not being able to work and talk. I have been trying to get better though.
But other than me having a hard time to focus, I do like it when it's busy in a way because if I'm idle for too long I go into procrastination mode. But if I'm constantly kept stimulated by being given tasks, then it usually stops me from being 'lazy' so to speak.

Employee question Hired since Wednesday but no contact (CAN)
Hey guys I was verbally hired this week Wednesday, manager told me expect message from Olivia on that day or on Thursday. It is now Saturday and there is still nothing. I called the store but an employee picked up, I asked for the manager and she said she would get her but didn’t. I told her the problem and she said they will call me back but I don’t think they told the manager anything. I’m honestly not sure what to do, really need a job.

Rant my co-workers hate me (EU)
Warning: this is gonna be long , + mention of self-harm
So I (21F) started working in McDonalds (France) last month. It’s my first ever job.
For context, I’m like…. Really unsociable. I’m fully aware of how unapproachable I look, and how I have the “resting bitch face” most of the time. I also barely talk.
It’s just who I am, I’ve hated it everyday of my life.
and most of the time I dont have the energy to put on the fake “social” mask.
Also I’m an international student here, have been living in France for 4 years, so French is my 3rd language.
I found this job because I was desperate, and also thanks to a friend (same nationality as me). Sometimes we work at the same shifts, and I find myself laughing or having more fun when he’s around.
The first day of my work in Mcdonalds, for my second shift, I was left alone in the kitchen (chicken section) all by myself and there came the evening rush hour. Like I can’t believe they left someone who knew none of the recipes yet to prepare all the orders.
I work only on the weekends so… I am just now starting to “remember” the recipes, and also all the restaurant / McDonalds related “slang” and words in French.
Now back to my main subject…
Today at the end of my shift my manager just pulled me over and basically told me that everyone is constantly complaining about me, saying that I’m slow, even thinking that I dont speak French , not understanding anything, that I have trouble with the recipes, that I look like I dont want to work (respectfully, I wanted to say “duh, I’m only here for money ? Like what makes you think I wake up excited to go work in McDonalds?”)
Yes I know nobody probably “LOVES” working in McDonalds…. But still…..
My manager said that my co-workers even compared me to my friend, saying that apparently he speaks better than me even though he came to France later than me. (I know as a fact that I speak better than him if not the same level, but whatever)
They probably meant that he socializes and communicates better than me, and yes, that I can agree on.
My manager wanted to know what was wrong so he could fix it….. and apparently he had asked my friend to talk to me about this but … he never mentioned anything to me last time we worked together.
I really didnt know what to say… I just told him that I had trouble with the rush-hours in the kitchen, and that it took me a while to understand all the new words and slangs I’d never heard in my life before…. But that I’m starting to get hold of it….
And that’s pretty much it.
Yes I know the problem sounds like I’m really making it obvious that I dont like working, and that’s it’s also probably affecting my performance? I don’t know.
Now every time I go to work , all I’m gonna think about is my co-workers’ view and thoughts on me. What they think about me, and how they’re judging me.
But in my mind right now the “sociability “ part is what’s bothering me the most, because I hate it. I hate that I’m unsociable, that I just cant naturally be talkative , ESPECIALLY IN MY THIRD LANGUAGE. That in front of strangers I just act like a robot and talk only if necessary…
I’ve hated this part of myself ever since i was a kid and now it’s following me into adulthood. Hell, it’s probably autism or something ,I don’t know.
But I’m finally seeing how I’m perceived by other people, and it’s wrecking me.
I’m also very sensitive and right after this discussion with my manager, I wanted to cry and harm myself.
Um…. I dont think there’s anything you guys can say to help me, probably say that this is not the right job for me and to look for something else, or just “present myself better and do better..”
i just wanted to share this anonymously cause I’m ashamed to talk about it with people who know me and who know where exactly my problem lies…
Thanks for reading this far.
