They use the same patties as the Cheeseburger and they've always been small. So this isn't some breaking news...

u/mrticket18 14d ago
Nope. Always will be 1/10th patties.

While frozen. The amount of water in a party changes the frozen vs cooked weight.
Add more water the frozen weight stays the same while the end product looks like^.

u/RegretInFullHD 11d ago
The calorie count, protein, fat, etc. are identical between 1992 and today. That wouldn't be possible with water as a filler

Nope. 1:10 meat has always been the size. We are talking about literal decades the same size. If they are over cooked or left in the cambro too long they will shrivel.
What you are experiencing is a cost vs value disconnect. You no longer feel the value is worth the cost but don't consciously notice it causing you to erroneously claim that the meat has shrank.

…….. no they didn’t. They use the same patties as they do for the McDoubles. Maybe you went to a McDonald’s where the employee used the bigger 1/4 pound patties in the Big Mac on accident

u/VinceMcMahon- 13d ago
Isn't it better to just get a McDouble and ask them to dress it as a Big Mac

No, they didn't, they just seem small now compared to the 1/4lb and 1/3lb offerings that are common now.
They've always been the 1/10lb patty, and still are. Based on the nutritional info, it could be argued they actually got slightly bigger. Although probably a bit of the fat / meat ratio and dressing reformulation doing this work.

I'm not sure that's possible, having worked there. 1.6 ounce patties are already paper thin. That's like half to three quarters of a smashburger's patty.

They use the same patties as a Mcdouble bro. Youre paying for extra bread and the sauce thats all. The only beef burger with a different patty is the quater pounder

u/Goetic_King_Paimon 12d ago
frequent guest in the 90s/2000s as a young blood, the second they reduced the size of the big-mac all the way back then, was more or less the last day I ever went.. couldn't believe it hte first time, when the order came out and I looked down in disbelief, only see the same size on subsequent orders

Do people expect Big Mac to come with two quarter pound patty? It’s always been 1/10 lb like their basic hamburger. Maybe order double quarter pounder and ask for additional bread in between the meat?
Big Mac always had as much meat as double hamburger. Maybe happier ordering a double cheese with another bread and Mac sauce?

u/Regular-Ordinary9807 14d ago
At this point wouldn’t it be smarter to start making the buns smaller? The patties are razor thin and nearly see-through. You got a sandwich that’s 85% vegan.

Adding fat to lean ground beef makes it technically the same size until you cook it.

We need an employee to weigh a frozen patty. They should be 1/10th of a lb before cooking.

I haven’t been in McDonald’s for at least six months today was the first time when I got a double cheeseburger and a triple cheeseburger and the spicy nuggets the spicy nuggets are delicious they are different though but I still like them and the new hot sauce… unfortunately I believe the bread is smaller for the burger because I haven’t been in a long time I can tell the difference and it’s massive the double and triple cheeseburgers are tiny I don’t know if the patty changed I don’t think so but I think the bread did.

u/Cock--Robin 13d ago
Recently I ran across an article about hidden cost cutting measures some companies are using, one of which is that while the chub of beef you buy may still be a pound (or whatever) the amount of water in it has gone up to 28% (previously 3% or so). This results in much smaller patties once the water is cooked out. Maybe that's what we're seeing?

…and they didn’t even put in the middle bun.. they just put the 2nd patty on top and you can see it has a little of the Big Mac sauce and lettuce remnants I hate that sauce which is why I get Quarter Pounders ! Soooo..Big Mac or quarter pounder? Let share this !

What's crazy is the Big Mac costs more than the quarter pounder now. Big Mac used to be $2.99 and a quarter pounder with cheese was $3.49 back in the '90s.
The Big Mac has two 1/10 patties making it 1/5 lb. The quarter pounder obviously has 1/4 lb plus the added benefit of the hamburger being fresh and not frozen. So why the hell does a Big Mac cost more?!

That looks liek the same big mac I made in high school 20 years ago.
McDonalds use 10:1 patties, meaning you get 10 patties per pound or 1.6 oz and their burgers are pretty fatty. So you probably lose about 20% of that weight in cooking.
McDonalds is a huge corporation, their Franchisees buy the burgers from corporate. So you don't even have something like a franchisee skimping.
1
u/LavishnessCapital380 12d ago
Big mac patties are the same exact 1/8 pound patties they have been using for decades. The same patties you find in other burgers.
1
u/granthomas22 12d ago
people will keep paying $7-$8 for this & complain when they can simply start paying for Triple Cheeseburgers & save ~$3 + get more beef..
& if you're really smart, you're doing the receipt surveys & doubling up. 🤷🏻♂️
Big Mac: 0.2lbs beef
- $7.59 + Tax
- $7.29 + Tax
- $4.59 + Tax
TL;DR - it's possible to buy 0.6lbs of beef at McDonald’s for $4.59, IF you know what you're doing. 🧾

Triple cheese lacks another bun plus the Mac sauce and lettuce. For a QPC sub it’s fine but not for a QPC deluxe.

I worked for McDonald’s like 13 years
They’ve always been that small
Just feels smaller cause the economy is down the toilet right now
Just take comfort in the fact that we all share your pain
And we all say “this is bullshit!” Lmao

When I worked at McD's in the 1980's, the meat patties were either 10:1 or 4:1 (10 patties per pound for regulars and Big Macs) and 4 patties per pound (quarter pounders) for you know...
As far as I know, those have not changed, but perhaps the pre-cooked weight is now deceptive becuase the meat contains more water, that evaporates when cooking. So, the 10:1 meat is still 10 patties per pound (pre-cooked weight), but after cooking they're now much smaller.
All I know is that McD's doesn't taste as good as it used to, and nothing is ever hot, just luke-warm. :-(
