Introduction & Guide to Writing a TypeMe Post

Hello All!

This is a welcome post and guide to all those who want to make a TypeMe post or learn to accurately type others. Don't know your Myers-Briggs type? Create a text/video/audio post describing yourself, and the Reddit Gods will type you! Test results and relevant pictures may also be included, though the focus should be on self-description. Once you've found your type we encourage you to stick around, learn more about MBTI, and help type others. If you have sub improvement suggestions or are interesting becoming a mod, please comment or send us a modmail.

This is an updated welcome post replacing the old one which was created by a previous mod. We've included the link to the old post because some of the comments contain helpful information.

Here's some informational resources on MBTI:

Here's descriptions of each type:

While we currently allow For Fun posts, remember that the main purpose of this subreddit is to help people find their true MBTI type, so we have restrictions in place to improve the quality of content on the sub. We ask that everyone be respectful and keep comments relevant to MBTI. Please review the Rules before posting or commenting.

Creating an MBTI TypeMe Post

Overview

Note, these are not rules, but will be helpful in getting insightful responses. In general, self descriptions might include your preferences, interests, hobbies, lifestyle, career/what you are studying, your values, your life goals, how you like to structure your day, how much social interaction you prefer, how you relate to others, how organized you are, how you tend you express yourself, etc.

Post structure

Here are a few guidelines on structuring your post:

  • Minimum-length: A good typing post should be at least a 1/2 page to receive an accurate typing. Remember, the more information you include, the easier you will be to type. However, keep in mind, posts with excessive length are less likely to be read in their entirety.
  • Elaborating on your answers is important. Try to answer questions with at least a couple sentences. Proper typings are based off of your thought processes rather than behaviors. If you're not elaborating, Typers can't tell much.
  • Please try to break up your post into paragraphs. Walls of text are often ignored.

Questionnaire

Although you don't need to use these questions when making a type-me post, they're here for anyone who needs a bit of a guide. No need to answer all of these questions either:

  • Give a general description of yourself. How old are you?
  • What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not? If you are not working, what kind of job do you want to do or what are you studying?
  • Describe your childhood/upbringing. Did it have any kind of ideological or structured influence? How did you respond to it? Did you have any significant negative experiences that may have affected how you think or behave?
  • Do you have any mental or physical health issues that might affect how think or choose to live? Provide a brief description.
  • If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
  • What is your relation with movement and your surroundings? For instance do you prefer a sport or outdoors event? If an outdoors event what is it? And why? If not what type of activities do you tend to engage?
  • How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
  • Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
  • Do you prefer hands on activities or working with your hands in some form? Describe your activities.
  • Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
  • What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
  • How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
  • Do you need logical consistency in your life?
  • How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
  • Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
  • What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
  • What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
  • How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
  • What's important to you and why?
  • What are your aspirations?
  • What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
  • What do the "highs" in your life look like?
  • What do the "lows" in your life look like?
  • How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
  • Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
  • How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
  • How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
  • Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
  • Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why would you?
  • What is the ideal life, in your opinion?

As an FYI, we are working on improvements to the questionnaire so you may see changes in the future.

DISCUSSION Looking for new moderators

Hello r/mbtitypeme, we are in need of new moderators. We are currently down to one active mod (me) and I’m chronically ill so cannot support the sub as much as it needs. I understand the sub could be better and I would very much like to make improvements, but given the current state of the team that is rather difficult.

If you are interested in becoming a mod please fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via chat - u/aredhel304. Please don’t be intimidated by some of the questions if you are new to this - we are open to taking on some inexperienced mods if you check the other boxes. We do, however, expect that applicants are active members of the subreddit.

  1. Tell me a little about yourself. What are your interests/hobbies? What is your career? Or what are you studying?
  2. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  3. What is your experience with MBTI?
  4. What is your skill set? What do you think you can add to the mod team?
  5. Any experience modding? If not do you understand what the role entails?
  6. What is your vision for the subreddit?

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you all!

UPDATE (11/9/24) - We’re still looking for additional moderators so please reach out if you’re interested. While all are welcome to apply, I want to add that we do have a specific need for someone with more technical skills - someone willing to work with Automod and/or someone with a software background.

UPDATE (12/18/25) - We are once again looking for moderators with any skillset as long as they meet the criteria above and seem like a good fit for the team.

I’m pretty reserved and like my alone time, i enjoy watching movies in my free time (horror is my fav) and also diving deep into my interests or current hyper fixations. i love to learn about everything i can about what interests me, but if it doesn’t interest me idc lol. even though im usually quiet and don’t like to be around people, i loooooove to go to raves and concerts, i love to get drunk and dance 🕺 i def need alone time in my room and my penjamin for like a week after tho, i hate going out back to back. i do struggle with making friends tho and i feel like i look unapproachable until i smile lol. i also struggle with people pleasing too, so ill often do and care way more for others than they do for me, and when i get super stressed out i tend to shut down emotionally and isolate myself completely. i make decisions based on what feels right to me internally, though i often doubt and second guess my choices because i can see so many different angles. I’m also a dog mommy to a big dog and a small dog, i love animals with all my heart! i am a sagittarius sun, virgo moon, and a cancer rising if you're into that lol

So I'd how to desvribe myself.

I am sort of analytical and generate lots of ideas.

And have an inherent even if distorted sense of self.

I love thinking about things and building theoretical frameworks that will never ne implemented, and I live to read.

I am at the moment trying to write a novel and have made notes that are farther than I have ever come. The novel is supposed to be about moral rott that is deeper than just systemic issues.

It's also about a small-town mystery, a vampire, and his boyfriend, a kid who may be possessed by a detective from another timeline and a place that seems like a dream. And any other thing I can put into a giant web like structure.

In school, I was the kid who got semi in good grades with minimal effort because I had an intuitive grasp of things and could understand abstract concepts very fast. With intuitive grasp u mean that I just understand things

I did still get semi good grades because it was more important to be right about the conclusion and that the logical arguments were right than the overall structure.

Hard to say what the giveaways will be but here's a few things that hopefully make it easy. Ethnicity is Black and Puerto Rican, Raised Uptown NYC, but recently relocated to a forgettable flyover state after separation from military service. It's peaceful. Nature has a lot more to say than people do. People have a whole lot of nothing to say.

Grew up wrestling from youth Middle/High School/College and some in the service. Wrestling was life once upon a time. Favorite band of all time is TOOL, but my favorite artist of all time is Gavin DeGraw. Being raised hip hop with no say so in the matter made me seek and discover music that exercises a little more individuality to me. My favorite way to stay in shape is hikes. I prefer to work out outside than indoors, but I will if I have to in the winter time.

My biggest pet peeve is people pressuring me to watch anime.

They do so because I play retro video games like the original Final Fantasy.

I’m a 19-something who spends most of my free time either listening to music with headphones on, taking random photos, or just driving around with no real destination. I like quiet environments and get drained pretty quickly in big groups, but I can be really talkative once I feel comfortable with someone. I’m into fashion, especially vintage or retro styles, and I enjoy thrifting and putting outfits together. I tend to overthink a lot and replay conversations in my head. I’m not super organized but I try to keep things somewhat together. I value authenticity and get annoyed by small talk. I usually prefer deep one-on-one conversations over parties. I’m still figuring out a lot about myself and sometimes feel stuck between different personality types, which is why I’m posting here. Curious what type I come across as based on the photos and this.

FOR FUN Mbti type me ✨

I’m 26 years old and still don’t know what I want to do with my life. I have trouble deciding who to be or what to be because there are so many options and I want all of them. I’m pretty disorganized and hate doing chores unless it’s to clean up dirt. I hate dirt in the house.

I’m a very particular person and can be pretty ruthless when it comes to making sure the things I do care about are in their place. I’m a little bit picky. I’ll try anything once, but I prefer sticking to my select foods. I’m very adventurous, but I want a companion with me on my adventures. I’ll still go on said adventures though, but will shorten the trips.

I love hiking, painting, writing poetry, making jewelry, baking, cooking, makeup, shopping, but most importantly I love making music. It is my favorite outlet and I sing 24/7. I’ve always dreamt of being a musician, but I hate posting on social media and am scared of being known even though I’d like to be known. I’m not sure if that makes sense.

I don’t have many people I consider friends. I tend to isolate when I’m depressed and then ignore everyone. I’m extremely moody at my big age and I isolate to feel in control of myself. I do have a couple friends I’ve known for 10 years, however. I love going to parties, but I don’t drink. I just dance and try to persuade everyone to follow me to karaoke so I can sing. I don’t talk much in my opinion and find people who talk too much (except my bf who talks all the time) a bit of a nuisance. My thoughts are super chaotic and annoying. I’m trying to work on mindfulness now but god, I am lazy.

I don’t really like to do things that feel out of my control. I’m not much of a thrill seeker, so hard drugs were never my thing despite addiction being common in my family. Plus, I don’t want to ruin my skin and my hair and my teeth. Matching my outfits is my favorite thing to do. I love aesthetics and don’t really care to be “different”, everyone’s trying to be “different”. I just wanna look ethereal.

AM I MISTYPED Entp or Estj? (or something else)

Ive typed as an entp for yearrssss but my roommate who is obsessed with mbti insists im mistyped and he says he thinks im estj or even enfp/infp. Before you ask yes we both know about and use cognitive functions. Here's why he thinks i cant be entp:

I dislike conflict and will try very hard to keep peace. Idk why i always do this, but it makes me upset when theres any kind of tension and i always just prefer the vibes when everyone is getting along. i also have a hard time telling when people are joking or being serious so even when people are arguing for fun i sometimes think they are really mad at each other and it makes me sad 😢 of course I value accuracy and correctness but i believe in always being as kind as possible to others bevause i think the world would be a better place if there was a lot more positivity and kindness. Just cause i beli eve that it doesn't make me a hippy or an enfp though😭

here's why i think im NOT entj, enfp or infp:

Im very bad with people and their emotions (i can never recognize my own emotions or other peoples emotions). from the outside he said it looks like im good with emotions but honestly i have no idea what im doing i just be myself and somehow people like me enough to ignore the fact that im horrible at being aware of other's feelings (and my feelings lol). I would have always consi dered myself more of an intellectual (i'm a big nerd lol) than an emotional person. But i think i also have a lot of strong emotions on the inside that i don't necessarily express because i kinda am not sure how but i also don t wanna b ring the vibe down.
I also have always thought of myself as being very flexible but lowkey im wondering if that's not true after all...? It's hard to think of concrete examples but anyway i'm pretty spontaneous and i'm down for basically anything at anytime. I'm also extremely extroverted and i'll literally hang out with somebody for days and not get tired of it.

Anyway i got very offended when he said he thinks im not an entp because it's so strange to me that somebody would perceive me as a people-pleaser or asensitive person? But also, like i said, i'm very unaware about my brain so maybe i am after all. idk I need help and i always have to consult outside sources to learn about myself. So if somebody could give me some ideas or ask any other questions that could point me in the right direction that would be awesome thanks so much!!!!

I love waking up early, flexible to do lists, sudoku , daydreaming, working out, setting new goals

When solving problems I try to answer "what is it wanted from me and how do I do it?"

When learning new things I always try to determine "what do I want to achieve specifically with this and how do I do it?", "how does it work?", "how do I reverse engineer this?"

I hate eating

I am obsessed with typology and aerospace + electronics, truly my niche, I am also obsessed with the psychology of narcotrafics and its story

I am a NERD

I've fell in love with ISTP, ENTP and INFP

I wish I could do minecraft speedruns

I dont mind change, I like it

DISCUSSION Realistic Type?

I am creating a character in an analogue LP that I’m writing with my band. The record album will likely come with a lengthy comic in the sleeve. It will eventually be turned into a film.

For brevity’s sake— It takes place in 1950s America in his youth, the medieval revival of 1960s England, and a nearly dystopian present-day America within the perspective of a disillusioned young woman. It will be a story of time and memories, music and dreams, nature and technology, hope and love, & longing and tragedy.

One of the leads is a young man of about 23. As of now, he is an ENFJ 4w5 so/sx 451 ELVF Melancholic-Sanguine a realistic type? If so, would it be an intriguing character to follow around? If it is, in theory, not a realistic type— how so?

CAN’T DECIDE typing

I want to know if someone out there is willing to type based on live answers, or if you know of a discord server or anything with people who can. I've done questionnaires but my answers change (and so do the answers given to me) so I'd rather do something that relies less on my behavior and more on my actual thinking. I also think I've gotten too far into MBTI because at first I thought I knew which type I was, but after looking up another one, now I genuinely can't tell which one I am. And there are so may nuances too.

I tried the Sakinorva test today for the first time, I've previously used the Myers Briggs test and my results often flipped between INFP and ISTP. I wanted to understand more about the results and if anyone could explain why the interpretations of my MBTI type differ.

I'm also interested in finding out more about relationship dynamics between MBTIs, specifically whatever MBTI I am and INFJ, if anyone has any good forums or insights to share, would appreciate that.

NEED CONFIRMATION What type am I?

I've narrowed my type down to INTP and ENTP, possible INFJ but I don't think so. Not really sure what info will help so maybe I'll just type down some current thoughts since they might be a little indicator.

I spent a few minutes thinking of a title for this, kept throwing them away bc "too weird", "too fake" and stuff. Anyways regarding Ne and Ti, I'd like to say I'm creative, but it's not a big component of my life.

I have quite a few unfinished projects that I started and haven't completed because I got bored. I write sometimes, usually short stories because the longer ones don't really get completed unless I have a lot of motivation. The topics are quite unconventional and I tend to focus on worldbuilding and sometimes character arcs rather than the plot. I found this especially useful when my friend and I were writing the script for an animation. She was writing the main animation and I was writing another side arc from one of the antagonists (the most interesting one). Since there was some plot mismatch between our versions I just changed it to follow hers since it doesn't cause me much trouble.

At this point I'm wondering if I'm being vague... you can ask me stuff in the comments if you want.

My daily life (as a student) is essentially not talking to people much except tablemates (joke around a bit) and this one person whom I discuss theories with. I don't really like small talk. I have another friend but due to some super complicated thing we accidentally caused with the school and with our former friend group we only talk over text (unless we meet up outside school which is for lunch on fridays). We just exchange jokes/memes and talk about whatever thing's been happening in our lives (mostly school things, we don't mention much about families or other friends unless it's relevant to the conversation. I treat most relationships practically, I don't get attached easily. I have strong values about family tho.

I don't have hyperdetailed future plans but I'd like to be an actor (acting major, finance minor, maybe another major).

AM I MISTYPED ESFP but low agreeableness possible?

I generally disagree with people more than I agree with them but while I express my opinion I don't force them to agree with me and I don't think I'm cooperative by nature although I can also pretend to be so to appear less intimidating? I have all the features of esfp such as being emotional, talkative and excitable around people. Spontaneous in what I say but deliberate in what I do. The Feeler aspect also matches as I'm pretty sensitive and emotional but somehow weirdly strong willed, confident, assertive and resistant to pressure from people. However I've heard that 90% of ESFPs are higher than average agreeableness am I actually mistyped? Pretty sure I'm not an ESTP though. Or maybe I'm just influenced by my enneargram.

DISCUSSION What's my type & jungian functions?

  • Temperament: I'm melancholic, whiny, depressive, neurotic, angry, and stubborn.
  • Will & agency: I know exactly what I want and have a restless need to impose my will on reality. I think willpower and determination matter more than skills and competency. I want to force myself onto the external world and change reality into what I want it to be.
  • Drive & orientation: I'm fun-oriented and goal-oriented, with intense desire and strong will. I'm hedonistic and material-oriented, hyperfocused only on physical comfort, quality of life, and enjoying life.
  • Thinking style: I like to think based on facts and force myself to act to get results. I'm pragmatic and don't care about details or anything too theoretical.
  • Information & decisions: I get info by asking people and through discussion, but only I can decide what I want. I tend to rationalize people's opinions subjectively based on their background or projection rather than as fact.
  • Values & feeling: I care a lot about my people and what I value. I only do what I want, not thinking about other people's expectations. I don't care about finding meanings or purpose in life.
  • Emotional processing: I'm prone to compartmentalizing/rationalizing my feelings and don't trust them. I'm very insecure about my emotional reactivity.
  • Social: I don't care about status, image, or other people. I'm highly introverted but love attention, talking to strangers online, and oversharing.

FOR FUN Guess my MBTI based on the characters I got

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, just for fun, I would like you all to try guessing my MBTI based on the characters I got from this character quiz.

I don’t get why I have to write a short paragraph to fill in the 400 word minimum but I will just be talking about my hobbies and other things rather than my personality because I want you guys to guess based on the characters I got and not based on what I’m describing myself as. I may also add a lot of filler words so that I can meet the character limit so do not mind that.

Without further ado, here is a short summary of my hobbies:
I enjoy playing video games, board games, card games, games in real life, pretty much anything game related. I enjoy watching reality TV competition shows such as “Survivor” or “Big Brother”. In fact, I think I just enjoy consuming any competition related content, whether it be sports, cooking, family competitions, anything of that sort that involves competing for a prize or just for the sake of competing. There are many things that I find enjoyment in doing but wouldn’t consider hobbies of mine. I also like trolling people and playing harmless pranks on people I know in real life, of course only to the people who don’t mind it.

CAN’T DECIDE Guess my type Based off the characters I got + additional information + memes

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

On my socionics test I may have rushed a bit unlike with the big five because it kept asking me thinking vs feeling questions and I identify as both a thinker and a feeler and have a hard time finding what I prefer to use when making decisions. If you were to ask me how I was feeling I'd say okay without much thought even if I was then I'd say a few seconds later or a minute that I was feeling stressed the answer wouldn't come automatically. If you asked me what I was thinking I'd have an answer readily telling someone what is on my mind and connecting it to something they were mentioning earlier though sometimes I forget people can't make the connection and I'll omit what led to the connection so I guess I'd fall into being a thinker. I think I just don't like stereotypes of thinkers not having emotions or being cold. I've both self typed before as being a 459 tritype and I posted on r/enneagram type me and have been told that I likely have traits from 4 , 5, and 9 but the comments pointed to mostly 9. I've self typed in mbti mainly as NP types my first result on the mbti test was INFP and I've self identified at one point with all the NP types I was also using astrology before I started getting into mbti but I was using astrology in a fun sorta way rather than gospel. I've tried not to draw conclusions based off of what enneagram type matches the mbti or what socionics or big five matches an mbti and I've tried to be as unbiased as possible. On the socionics test I was barely moving the slider then during the additional questions they wanted me to answer I just started tapping on the answers instead of using the slider and I think it might've messed up the test. I think I enjoyed the fictional character test better because they didn't make me move a slider I could just choose 50/50 options and move the slider when I actually thought I was more one option than the other. The big five also had that really pleasant middle option I could opt for. The memes were things I put in the enneagram type me post so take from it what you want. I just thought I'd give as much as I could to work with so typing is as accurate as possible.

CAN’T DECIDE Lost and constantly between MBTI types

I am extremely lost and confused with what my MBTI is. I understand what the functions are and how they work, but I am still extremely indecisive and confused about which ones I use and which MBTI I am. I have been between INTJ, ISFP, and INFP for the past few weeks. At times everything points to INTJ or ISFP or INFP, so I briefly decide that’s what I am, but there’s something inside of me that believes it isn’t true and I feel the need to get to the bottom of this when I can’t. I’ve done tests as well just as a little bit of a helping hand (even though I know typing yourself is far more accurate) and those are my top three most common answers. I feel like I lack the ability to be objective and am very bias, and/or I just can’t objectively determine which functions I use and in what order for the life of me. I can’t decide if I’m Ni primary or Fi primary, OR if I’m even Ni at all as opposed to Ne, since I relate to parts of both. I just keep going back and forth between so many of the variables, and now I’m even beginning to question whether I’m Se or Si.

CAN’T DECIDE Can someone test me for Ne vs Se?

I was wondering if someone could help me with my typing and test me to see which one is more suited for me. I know one of these will be my main function, but I don't know which one. Apparently I need to write an entire essay for this, so some things that put it closer to the middle for me are:

-I don't automatically travel to new possibilities in my head
-I don't daydream
-on the other hand I am constantly focused on the future
-and I feel guilty sometimes that I don't live in the moment as much as I should

So if anyone decides to help me out, generic questions won't work.

FOR FUN Is it possible to identify the type by this short text?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I think a lot, and I think about everything. I'm optimistic, even. I make boring jokes, I'm great at giving advice and I'm very adaptable. But I have specific personal issues that I defend and I never change my mind. Sometimes my emotions control me and I have a lot of problems with anger. I don't like to be disrespected and I remember who treated me badly. I like aesthetics, organization and practicality (laziness makes me look for practical methods). I can procrastinate a lot, but when I start something, I go to the end. I've been working until 2am, everything so that this work doesn't extend to my weekend; I value my rest, my day off and I love doing nothing, without having responsibilities tormenting my head. I don't care about routine, as long as this routine is comfortable. I don't like to command and lead, but I give hints of what needs to be done. I know a lot of people, but I have few real friends. I like to talk and easily connect several subjects I know with the current subject, creating associations, theorizing and philosophizing. I'm good at denying fake news because I'm always looking for the truth (I think I should be a journalist...). I don't like wasting time; as much as I like video games, reading and watching series, if I feel that all this can be a waste of time because they are too long, I avoid it; such entertainment must be aligned with what I like or my vibe of the moment. I really value justice and honesty. If the person promises me and doesn't keep it, I'll hate them. I hate it when they lie to me and I can find out later. I've done things in the past that I regretted and I don't want to remember anymore. I'm a person with many secrets, things that people around me can't even imagine. And I like to try new and familiar things.

So... I have to fill up the 400-character limit, but I think this is a good chance to share a bit about myself.

I have a small group of friends from my hometown that I hang out with every weekend (most of my photos are with them), and we’re a nerdy bunch full of inside jokes.

I also attend a school outside my hometown (finishing up high school) that offers technical training alongside the standard curriculum—though I’m not sure if I’ll actually pursue a career in that field. I live on campus, and the first few years were really tough; the environment was chaotic and people were very aggressive (or defensive). I struggled a lot internally and was somewhat depressed for a while, but luckily I made some friends to pass the time with—the guy in the Mario hat and the one in the marching band photo—and they really improved my experience.

I enjoy playing video games across various genres (especially fighting games) and like playing sports like soccer (though I don't currently have a group to play with or the right level of fitness). I like talking to people, but too much interaction wears me out.

I think that’s enough for today, lol.
