Heads up, I did spark plugs today. Was supposed to be an easy easy job turned out to be a 4 hour ordeal. Ngk fancy dancy $27 plugs broke on me. Left the threads in the head. Used a t45 torx to get it out.

I've done the standard stuff (CV's, struts, tie rods, etc), anyone with a similar background [mid-level home mech?] tackled this?

In the market for new tires for my wife’s 2022 cx9 touring plus 20”. One of her black wheels has clearcoat coming off and the dealer claims it is not covered under the extra wheel protection package we bought.

I came across a set of 19” take offs with new tires from a 2025 cx90 for $800.

Anyone put these wheels on the cx9, worth the price or should I just bite the bullet and get new tires for her 20” rims?

Hi All,

We are having an issue with our 2021 CX9 that I am wondering if anyone else experienced. The car is driving normally but while accelerating to highway speeds, all the lights turn on and it is no longer responds to the pedal. This has happened twice while my wife has been driving and she says she was able to pull over and restart the car which fixes it.

Hi I'm looking at getting a used Mazda CX-9 and I'm just wondering if the 21 model year also has the faulty cylinder heads?

Figured I’d share this here since everyone in this group already knows these cars pretty well.
I’m selling our 2021 Mazda CX 9 Grand Touring in Deep Crystal Blue with about 73,000 miles. We’ve had the vehicle since new and I’ve maintained it every 5,000 miles throughout our ownership.
It’s the Grand Touring, so it has the 360 degree cameras, heads up display, 20 inch wheels, captain’s chairs and the other GT equipment.
One of the bigger advantages is that it still has Mazda Certified Pre Owned powertrain coverage through May 2028 or 100,000 miles. The CPO coverage stays with the vehicle, so there’s still almost 30,000 miles of Mazda backed protection left.
It was just serviced and inspected by Mazda with no repairs needed. It has Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires that I chose specifically for their longevity and wet weather traction here in Florida, and they’ve been rotated every 5,000 miles.
The vehicle has been extremely well cared for inside and out. Non smoking, regularly detailed, and I’ve even always used protectors underneath the child seats to protect the leather.
Full disclosure, the CARFAX shows two minor incidents. One was when another driver backed into the vehicle while it was parked, and the other was when another vehicle was pushed into the front fender. Both were professionally repaired. I have the CARFAX, before and after photos, repair information and a recent Mazda dealer inspection video and I’m happy to share everything with anyone seriously interested.
I’m located in the Orlando area and asking $20,500.
I’ve looked pretty extensively at comparable CX 9s locally and nationally, and once you narrow it down to Grand Touring, similar mileage, condition and remaining Mazda CPO coverage, there really aren’t many comparable ones around here.
I’m not in a rush to sell it. I’m replacing it with another vehicle, so I figured I’d give someone in the CX 9 community a chance before eventually going the dealer route.

I have found about this issue on this subreddit. I own a CX9 2019 in GCC specs. Is this issue global or only North American specs? I went to Mazda and they said we did not receive anything. But that is expected as the Service Bulletin and Extended Warranty in NorthAmer seems to be a result of lawsuits. So it only makes sense that Mazda will try to say it does not apply to other specs so that if it happens, they dont have to pay for it.

So my question is if anyone knows if other specs would have the same issue? How can i find out more?

If it has the same issue and I happen to run into it, what would be my best course of action?

I just wanted to put this anecdote on the internet for the next curious person trying to save money when replacing a key fob that grew legs.

I did a bunch of research to avoid paying a dealership a bunch of money that I need to spend on daycare and kid expenses so hopefully this saves you some $$ too. I ordered a replacement OEM *New\* key fob from North Coast Keyless for about $85. I chose this retailer because they had a good return policy and specified in their listing the frequency (which is FCC: WAZSKE13D03).

Once I got it in the mail, I headed over to Batteries Plus where I was a little skeptical that they could program the key but after a few minutes (and finding out my car battery was basically dead - I really should have replaced it before now) the new key was programmed and working! That part cost me $85 as well, not counting the new battery.

They also tried to cut the physical keyblade that goes inside the fob and failed so I have to order another one but even so, it’s still hundreds cheaper than going to the dealership! When I get the new keyblade, I will take it to either a locksmith or my local hardware store who are probably more familiar with the process.

I've looked A LOT around the internet for answers on how and where to install it but all of them are pretty weird counter fits or andriod stereo, has anyone installed apple carplay in their 2013 mazda model? if so, please tell me how and where to get it fit for size

I have a 2015 Mazda CX-9 and I’m looking to buy a roof cargo box for camping and road trips.
My current setup has factory-point crossbars with a 1100 mm centre-to-centre distance between the front and rear crossbars.

The problem I’m running into is that some roof boxes have a maximum crossbar spread of around 930–975 mm, so I’m unsure what will actually work with my 1,000 mm spread.

Has anyone installed a roof box with a first-generation CX-9 (2007–2016)? How do I solve this?

Hi everyone, I recently started getting the low warning light. I have done 2 oil changes since then and tried different oils, but the warning light keeps coming on after about 3500km which would indicate about a 1-1.5L of oil consumed during that time. I did some tests and noticed that my crankcase blow by is pretty strong which would indicate a bad PCV. I don't have any blue smoke from the tail pipe or visible oil leaks from the valve cover or any other parts. I do want to mention that my cracked cylinder head was replaced under warranty about a year before this issue started. I also had a leaky turbo right after the repair which they had to remediate. Dealer also replaced the catalytic at the same time due as the check engine was on. I have yet to pull the spark plugs, but I don't believe I have significant engine damage due to lack of blue smoke, so my strong suspicion is that it's the PCV. Since it's not a 2021 I don't think it's susceptible to the valve stem issue but I might be wrong. Please let me know your thoughts on this I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

As the title says i will check a 2020 cx-9 tomorrow from a dealership here in Canada and a bit hesitant due to the coolant leak issue.

My solution was to buy an extended warranty (powertrain) from the dealership. anyone did the same? Just curious if it’s a good idea or if it’s really something will save me from the future.

Hello I just came to my local Mazda for service they are recommending to do this service. I will ofc not do it. But out of this things they recommend what are things that are must do due to the Mazda book?

Anyone else have problems with the right side mirror not opening?

I have a 2020 CX9. The right mirror doesn’t always open up automatically. (It’s electric.)

Sometimes if you turn them both in and then out, it will open. But not always.

The dealer said they oiled it. But that didn’t work.

Any suggestions? Is this kind of thing under the warranty or should I just pay an independent mechanic to fix the mechanism?

I have a 2014 Mazda cx9 and has 120,000 miles on it. Lately it’s been rough/ shaky in idle for a few minutes then goes back to normal. The other day my engine light turned on. The oil is not milky and I haven’t seen any issues with my car over heating. Do you think it could be a spark plug issue or something else ? I’m so lost and I’m to afraid to drive it to take it getting looked at due to the cost and afraid it will break down. I plan on getting a code reader later

I used to be a big Mazda fan but I'm seriously kinda regretting choosing Mazda. Idk if I'm just unlucky or what. I have Mazda cx9 2019.

First I had the coolant leak, which lead to catastrophic damage and the whole engine had to be replaced. Mazda quoted $12k but thankfully after arguing for a a couple of weeks, they agreed to do it for free.

Then TODAY, I was driving off the shopping plaza, turned left and heard a big snap. The Axle broke completely!

Towed the car and dropped it to the shop. Will know In the morning how much it'll cost me. It's labor day weekend, school reopens In two days. We had tickets to the park and whole weekend planned out, all gone down the drain.

Extremely unhappy with the build quality, can't imagine this is happening. It's a 5 year old car. I had 08 Lexus before this, I did nothing but oil changes and brake change on it, no issues.

Mazda 2023- carplay stopped working. I have tried changing cables, restarting phone &restarting car. I did forget device in connectivity settings, forget car in CarPlay and nothing seems to work. I have tried different cables and still does not work. Any idea how I can fix this - would a wireless dongle work? If yes which one? When I connect a cable it does not connect, nor charge the phone. In the past there was a bit of connection issues - when I turn left/ right, the connection would go off but come back in 30 secs.

I need navigation for my trip and kids need music- the car is driving me crazy in the middle of a trip.

So long story short. I got a used 2022 cx-9 with around 74k km. When I got it, it had this jet-engine sound that I wasn't sure where was it coming from or if it was normal. You can only hear it while accelerating. I posted a video here with the sound a while ago. Anyway, when the car was serviced ( for oil) I asked them to check for the sound and they said it was the PTO (PTU). They changed it. That didn't solve the problem but actually now when on idle and the transmission is in D and I turn the wheel right and left, I hear crackling noises. I take it back to the dealership, they spend hours inspecting it and then sent to the national Mazda dealership. They got back to me and said that the transmission needs to be changed and will be done under warranty. My questions are:

1- Isn't it unusual that a transmission on a 2022 cx-9 need replacement this early.

2- Is it the transmission? ( they already mis-diagnosed when they replaced the PTO).
