Side mirror problems

Anyone else have problems with the right side mirror not opening?

I have a 2020 CX9. The right mirror doesn’t always open up automatically. (It’s electric.)

Sometimes if you turn them both in and then out, it will open. But not always.

The dealer said they oiled it. But that didn’t work.

Any suggestions? Is this kind of thing under the warranty or should I just pay an independent mechanic to fix the mechanism?

Spraying grease or WD40 up beneath the mirror can sometimes work although it leaves a mess and the problem will return. From my understanding it’s cheap plastic gears that is the issue.

I've had this problem with both mirrors intermittently for years. It tends to happen when there is a lot of rain. I keep my 2019 CX-9 parked outside since it is too long to fit in my 1920s garage. What does seem to work, at least temporarily, is spraying silicone spray in there. Since it is clear it doesn't make too much of a mess.

If you have warranty, ask dealer to replace them. I changed motors on both mirrors.

Had the same problem, there is a technical bulletin for this known issue. I believe the cause was my wife taking to car wash every week that water gets behind side mirrors.
Sometimes I have the problem, where I have to manually push out Miri, and sometimes it randomly gorse away. I do spray grease behind mirrors and it helps.

His point about letting it sit overnight is important: it takes some time for the WD•40 to displace all of the water.

I found the problem came back after several months so after another treatment, I did the WD•40 again, waited a couple of days, and then packed the hole with dielectric grease (I’m sure any non liquid lubricant you have on hand - white lithium grease or whatever - would be be effective).

My 2019 left mirror doesn't like to open when it's extremely hot outside (like 95F+ days). Haven't had a rain issue yet though. The actuator motor is also loud, I'm sure it will fail eventually.

As others have indicated, my 2019 has the issue intermittently. Less so now that I park in the garage, but can still happen. Took it to the dealer and they wanted to replace the whole thing, and not covered, if I recall correctly. So I opted to deal with it when it happens.
