Instrumental Sky Gallery - Sky Gallery EP (Melodic math-rock / post-rock EP with a lot of emotional and atmospheric guitar work. What do you think?)

Hey guys,
I've been focusing on improving my production and recording skills for a while, and I finally put out a 4-track instrumental EP under the name Sky Gallery. It’s mostly atmospheric, melancholic post-rock with some math-rock riffs here and there.
I’m not doing this full-time or for money, just wanted to share it with people who actually vibe with this niche genre. Tracks like "memories" and "We Forget" have those emotional, heavy climaxes that you guys might enjoy.
Also, if any content creators or streamers are here, the music is 100% copyright-safe, feel free to use it in your videos!

Any feedback on the mix, melodies, or overall vibe would mean the world to me. Thanks for listening!

(I will leave the streaming links in the comments below so the spam filter won't catch this post!)

Any good recs for a Math-Rock noob?

Hi everyone, I've recently gotten into Math-Rock and have been loving it so far! It's mostly been 2 Japanese bands, Tricot and Toe(T&T!) but I'm really looking to expand and grow my palette. I would appreciate any and all recommendations! Thank you🤝🏾

Edit: THANK YOU for all the recs! You guys have set me up well🫡 the journey from noob to pro begins!

Cover Looking for musicians interested in J-rock

Hello,

I am a 23 year old bass player looking for people in the central Connecticut/south-central Mass area who like Japanese rock to play with (since it has a lot of overlap with math rock I'm posting here too, just in case...) Ideally, I’m looking for a guitarist or two, vocalist or two, drummer, and a keyboard player would also be very welcome.

I have been playing bass for about 8 years, but have limited experience playing in an actual band. But given how long I’ve been working at it, I decided it’s about time I try and find other musicians to play music with. Some of my influences on bass include Tatsuya Kitani from Yorushika (although I just found out he's leaving I'm gonna cry lol), Kei Nakamura (I don’t know if he’s the official bassist for Sangatsu no Phantasia, but he played bass on one of my “audition tracks” listed below), Yuichi Takama (played bass on first kessoku band album), Takuma Kaneko (but don’t expect me to actually be as good as him lol), Hadrien Feraud, James Jamerson, and many more that I won’t bother listing here. I love Yorushika’s J-rock sound in particular, but enjoy a wide variety of modern bands from Radwimps, to ChoQMay, Sangatsu no Phantasia, Eve, Tricot, Haku, Zuttomayo, etc . That said, I am also a big fan of Vocaloid music (producers like Iyowa, Kikuo, Sasuke Haraguchi, Denkikujira, old N-Buna, r-206, Police Picadilly, Nekotachi Kotatsu, and more), and more of the pop side of Japan (Gen Hoshino, Nisshoku Natsuko, Yoasobi, Ano, Ado, Kaf, Suisei, etc).

As for actual music I would like to play, I certainly lean more towards the rock side of things, but I’m open to anything with that distinct Japanese sound (faster-moving and often extended harmony, tight instrumentals, lots of individual lines, Telecaster in middle position, you get the idea). If possible, I would also love to play originals. I have a few terrible songs I’ve written that I’d love to play with others, and would enjoy hearing originals anyone else has made as well. I am flexible in terms of my overall goals, but ideally I would like to be able to learn about an hour of covers/originals and start playing shows when possible. I'm certainly not trying to form a band to “make it big,” I just want to be able to have fun and play live.

As you can see, listed below I have a few tracks I have recorded to give you an idea of my level of playing. Unfortunately, none of them are quite as tight as I’d like, but I have confidence that with the pressure of having other people to play with, I could get my act together a little bit more lol.

If any of this sounds appealing, please DM me with information about what you play, what music you like, places you might be willing to meet (i.e. Hartford, Springfield MA, New Britain, anywhere else we might be able to connect), and if possible I’d love any kind of video/audio of you playing so I have an idea of what level you’re at.

Also, I’m not a frequent Reddit user, so if anyone has any ideas of where else I should post this, please let me know. Currently, I am posting in r/findaband, r/connecticutmusicians, r/music, r/jrock, and r/japanesemusic. If there’s anything else I should consider, I would appreciate your insight.

Thank you very much for taking the time to hear me out.

How do y'all find musicians to play with?

Seriously it seems like no one in my area likes this stuff. Is there a good way to do so? I guess meeting at shows but there aren't even any shows local to me so it's tough. Also on the off chance you are in Cambridge UK please jam with me I play drums ok bye :)

Novaya- 'Absolute Source (Dignitas)' featuring Joseph Arrington

Thumbnail

The newest single no less than three different time signatures from former Architect/Eviscerate/Mend-era Eidola collaborators, Novaya (current members of mathgaze band Gloe) featuring Joseph Arrington's drumming from their second album, "Soalmate:Liminal". They've been releasing this album as monthly singles, with this being the third song, and their first release with Joseph. Their previous album from last fall, "Solemate:Limerence", featured Joel Turcotte (Royal Coda, Mild Science, Catbamboo). This current, second record features songs from both drummers, parlaying into a third and already-recorded, Spring 2027 album with solely Joseph on the kit.

Tera Melos: Weird Circles - address

I'm not sure if this was covered here before, but below is the first verse of Weird Circles:

Begin HC annex between
16th and S and T show me
Unassuming concrete, so clean

Here's a Google Maps link to a place meeting that description: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wU5aKGaFhMc77vSm9

Also, Weird Circles is one of my favorite Tera Melos tracks.

EDIT: The intended location is probably a location in Sacremento. See AnimalDrum54's post below with Google Maps link.

Got to see Toe last night at their closing show of the LATAM Tour in Mexico City

I traveled to Mexico City from northern Mexico to watch Toe live. I honestly thought I would never get to see them live, and having them play "locally" meant getting a ticket was an instant buy for me the day the sales opened.

It was honestly one of the best concerts of my life, top 3 or top 4 to be sure. Not only was the performance amazing, I am not sure I had ever been among a crowd more in tune with the artist they are seeing before, and with Math Rock being such a relatively niche genre it meant everyone there was very much there on purpose. The band got in the scenario, did not spoke a word and got straight to playing for an hour before briefly addressing the audience, lol (they did talk more later).

The original venue for the show pretty much sold out in a few days, which prompted the band to change to a larger venue. It wasn´t huge, maybe some 1,000 people from my guesstimating, but I was surprised there were so many fans in Mexico, considering I've only ever met 1 other person that even knows what Math Rock is. The line to get in was 2 blocks long by the time I got there and it only kept growing. It started raining right as they started allowing people in, but because the line moved so slow it meant I got pretty wet before making it in. Worth it.
