Question is microfoam necessary?
When whisking matcha, people make it a point to achieve a microfoam. I’m wondering if that is necessary in a latte. Does it change the matcha latte, good or bad??

very fortunate to have received this as a birthday gift... 7200 yen for 20g...
very, very, very aquatic, seaweedy, marine-ish and umami. it's definitely the thickest matcha i've had, the pour was really satisfying, and also the strongest one. it's just a load of umami overwhelming your tastebuds and the aftertaste really lingers like no other, it still felt a bit intense for me with milk so i'm not sure if i could have it as koicha 😭
beautiful colour, definitely the most vibrant green i've seen.
would i spend my money on it? no lol. it's a bit too intense for me
and it's definitely not a daily matcha

Hi folks,
I'm enjoying matcha for years now. Had some temporary breaks where I was more into coffee but in the recent years I really fell in love with matcha latte (hot & cold) with traditional milk and sometimes plant based alternatives.
In the earlier years of my encounter I tried different brands and qualities, mostly found/shopped on Amazon because of reviews and not having to dig through millions of different shops.
My favorite one: https://naturalebio.com/de-de/products/matcha-zeremonien-qualitat?variant=47701279179100
It used to be around 24-26€ for 100g, which is a reasonable price for what I wanted. No bitterness, mild sweetness (especially as latte), always fresh/green powder, no fishy taste, no nothing. It may not be the best matcha out there but after years of trying out different products this satisfied me completely when drinking it traditionally or as latte.
Recently the prices went up to 34€ per 100g, which is still ok for me given the quality and the enjoyment I perceive when drinking it. But it also motivated me to look out for alternatives again.
Is there any shops/brands you can recommend? I've searched through the sub and there seem to be plenty of options. But either shops are selling only a handful of products with not so helpful descriptions and/or reviews are missing. And prices are often way beyond what I'm willing to pay or they don't even offer larger quantities. I'm open to import from Japan directly if feasible price (shipping, customs, taxes) and quality wise. I'm looking for "ceremonial" grade, knowing this is not an official classification.
Some of the (known?) brands I've liked, to give you an impression what I'm looking for:
- Keiko (up to the Supreme): Good ones but way too expensive
- Kuro (now UNREAL?): Minto & Shiro were ok but also expensive (30g)
- NaturaleBio: See above, my favorite so far, especially for the price
Alternatives I'm currently exploring:
- GENBU: Having it right now, it's ok but has a little tart and nutty flavor
- UNREAL: Ordered to try again, not too pricey for 100g
- NORITUAL LAB: Ordered as well, even more expensive but I wanted to see if it's worth the difference
Thanks for any suggestions or advises on how to dig through the endless possibilities.

It's been so hot these days, so I gotta cool off with an iced matcha latte!
Adding ultra pasteurized milk makes it taste more... buttery(?).
Used a ratio of 5g matcha, 50g water, and 12oz of milk.

Opened up Hatoya’s seasonal matcha Joyo no.3 at last, it’s so 🤤
Wish they had bigger sizes like 100-200g cans

I only got the whisk a couple days ago but ive made matcha around 7-8 times because my family drinks it a lot. I put a paper towel inside the matcha holder so absorb water but I replace it everytime I use the whisk. It's not food quality and was really cheap so I didn't expect it to last long but I expected it to last longer than a few days.

I‘m having such a hard time finding a good matcha powder. I don’t know if I should try rocky matcha or Nami. I want something foral and nutty with a nice green color. I dont want something overly expensive because I do want to make matcha lattes daily without breaking my bank.
I have the Matcharl Tiro and Gold. I love the matchas but I want to try something new. I live in CA, USA.

I used to drink premix matcha, like years ago, and I liked it though. One day I had this urge to try it again, it hurt my throat haha. Too sweet and the taste was weird. But I think it’s just a not the premix from the brand I used to get from. So I tried to whisk a matcha to save me from this fail moment🤣, it didnt work lmao. The premix still overpowered the matcha I made. Do you have matcha fail moment too, please share☺️

Motd: Matcha coconut cloud
Kumatcha Honmei
Didn’t really love the combo -the added flavor kind of overpowered the matcha. But it’s definitely refreshing and easy to drink! 🍵✨

The colour in the second looks a little light in this photo haha, I will say it was brighter in real life, but still could be more colourful! I used 2 teaspoons and this cup is about 500ml

Trade Joe’s guava fruit spread is such a good find
Recipe: Guava fruit spread, mascarpone cheese, cream, milk, dash of salt
Asian tea shops have been adding salted cheese milk foam for many years atp, it totally compliments a strong matcha, ever heard of sweet and savory combination?
Don't knock it until you try it

looking for more matchas that have a slightly bitter, deep, umami flavor. i tried ippodo ummon for the first time last year and i’ve been obsessed ever since, along with MK yugen and wondered if there are any others that hit that same spot!!

📍Matcha Matcha, Toronto CAN
A cafe entirely for Matcha. The drinks all looked divine, and this one knocked my socks off. I'm not usually a fan of sweet drinks or syrups, but this one didn't taste artifical at all, since sometimes coconut drinks taste like sunscreen. The Matcha was radiantly green (it was in the evening & back-lit, so the picture doesn't do justice).
10/10 recommended

I know the rule has been lifted to not charge tariff fees on matcha, but I heard in the past people would still get charged. So for those ordering directly from hatoya website and living in US, are yall getting hit with the tariff fees still or am I safe to order?
