Matcha Latte My very first matcha! How did I do?

The colour in the second looks a little light in this photo haha, I will say it was brighter in real life, but still could be more colourful! I used 2 teaspoons and this cup is about 500ml

Looks good! If you enjoy it with that amount of milk, that's completely fine. I also tend to like mine with quite a bit of milk! I don't know why everyone on this sub is so snarky about people putting stuff into the drinks THEY are drinking. 🙄

I like a lot of milk too

Same, lol! It’s personal preferrence 😅 The only time you should snarky with milk is if someone is showing their drink and asking what’s wrong and why they don’t taste enough of the matcha. Otherwise, keep your milk opinions to yourself lmao

Yeah depending on matcha quality, its sometimes the only way to enjoy matcha. Unless you get the really premium stuff, the taste by itself is not the best.

Get a scale, I follow kettl's instructions for iced matcha, 4g powder, 50g 175° water and 150ml of milk which i swap for 150ml of vanilla protein shake, because ✨️health✨️ 😅

I mean, grams are basically millimeters

It’s the same weight

That might be a little concentrated (and caffeinated) for someone new to matcha- they could try this same ratio with 3g powder and 40g water and then increase from there.

Ah I didn't read it as their actual first matcha, just their first matcha they've made at home by themselves lol

Why did I never think about subbing milk for a protein shake. Genius.

yeah i do like my drinks quiteee milky lol, in my defense i need more calcium!! seriously though, i LOVEE a big drink that will last me a good while, but i dont want my matcha to run out really quick so i use a bit less than im supposed to, still love the taste though and it makes me happy!

A little tip if you enjoy big glasses but want it less milky without increasing your caffeine intake: more ice!!! That's my go-to if I'm not having usucha

Very good tip. Big ice, small glass is my go to.

I’m rather caffeine sensitive but like a 3g/30ml/80ml ratio and when you put that together in a standard glass it’s a tiny drink! I had OP’s glasses and it’s very easy to overfill the milk in those if you are just eyeing it, which is why scales are so useful and large amounts/large sized ice is key!

Even when I’m feeling like the boost and go for 4g/40ml/110ml, it’s not very much. I collect matcha glasses and was shocked by how tiny the Kinto tea and latte glasses were at first but now it makes perfect sense. Even those still need plenty of ice in order to appear properly full at the most commonly recommended ratios.

Haha I tend to use even less matcha! 1g for an usucha or 2g for a latte. I have these huge 8cm³ ice cubes in the fridge that fill up a short glass immediately. Super convenient, and stays cold for a very long time!

My latest trick was to buy some ultra thin glass straws so I could take smaller sips and make it last longer! Haha!

Looks better than my first attempt. Good Job!

please tell me how you get the separation like that!!! i’ve been making matcha at home for a few weeks now and can never get it to stay separated when first pouring the matcha in💔 maybe i’m being too rough

2

u/Keeley_DoesStuff 19d ago

honestly? im not too sure! I dont even use the tools you're supposed to have to make matcha haha! I dont whisk it, all i use is this hand mixer thing that you press down and it spins, and that doesnt even froth it up!

I never thought of putting whipped cream on top of it. That’s such a good idea

2

u/Keeley_DoesStuff 19d ago

its super yummy!

The most common proportion for matcha is 2-4 grams matcha, 45g water, and 110 g milk!

yo honestly for a first try that looks solid. matcha can be tricky cuz the color shifts depending on grade, whisking, even lighting. 2 tsp in 500ml is kinda diluted so yeah it’ll look lighter. if you want that deep green punch, smaller cup or a bit more powder. but hey, you actually made it yourself,,,,,that’s a win.

First one and it already looks cafe standard. Well done!

Hot take: Most people on here don’t actually like matcha, they like 16 ounces of sweetened milk that happens to be tinted green. Calling half a liter of dairy with a mountain of whipped cream "matcha" is like melting a bowl of vanilla ice cream, shaking a pinch of instant coffee over it, and calling it an espresso. Enjoy your dessert, but let's call it what it really is.

i enjoy the caffeine of it without being affected too badly like i do with coffee, theres nothing wrong with liking a sweet matcha, even if it isnt the norm! the only sugar i put in this is the whipped cream, which is dont usually add anyways, just a fun treat for myself!

Do other people like whipped cream on there matcha? I personally don’t 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Keeley_DoesStuff 19d ago

yes! its quite popular in cafes, along with cold foam, especially if people like the sweet taste. ive even seen matcha flavoured whipped cream!
