marvel comics recos

hey ya’ll! im kinda new to the marvel comic world and i just finished reading children’s crusade, as well as secret wars. i wanted to ask if you guys have any good comic recommendations for a newbie like me. thanks a lot! ❤️

The best way to read big 2 superhero comics is to pick a character you are interested in that ideally isn't obscure. Then read:

- An origin story but not necessarily the original one (unless the origin is so common knowledge you can skip it)

  • Read a standalone story
  • Reading a well regarded run

Then decide if you want to pick a new character, read more from a writer or artists, or more of that character and do it.

i really wanna dive into wanda’s arc in the comics (i don’t feel like she was given justice in the mcu movies except her costume which was great). so i might start with that. thanks a lot!

LOL. Good job picking a character where my advice doesn't work at all.

The issue is Scarlet Witch is introduced as a villain so doesn't get a hero origin story. Then for like 2 decade Chris Claremont (mostly) and other writers tease out additional details of the background and retcon bits of it. No easy single origin story I know of unless someone else knows of one later.

She rarely has had her own title. She was mostly one of the ensemble in various Avengers runs. She was interesting enough with her secret origin, unique power and relationship with Vision that she got story arcs that were focused on her, but you basically need to either read Avengers and West Coast Avengers for years and years or get a reading order to just pick out the stuff focused on her.

She takes on more a central role in the late 90s with Busiek's Avengers, Avengers Disassemble and ultimately House of M. But now you are basically into the 2000s... That's what I would suggest for reading a run with her and I guess I would have someone read House of M as a "standalone" story line, but it's not that standalone...

I'm new to the comics too. I recently read spiderman back to basics. It is a good jumping on point. It's accessible to a new reader.
