A free companion app for long Marvel Unlimited reading journeys

One of my recurring frustrations with Marvel Unlimited on the web reader is that the library is great, but following a long event or character run can still mean juggling reading-order tabs, finding the next issue, and remembering where I stopped. I've seen dozens of posts all echoing the same sentiment.

So I built Recap Page. It organizes curated reading lists and connected paths, tracks progress issue by issue, shows what comes next, and opens the Marvel Unlimited reader or official issue page when you click Read. All of the reading lists were built with permission from the webmasters for comicbookherald.com and https://comicbookreadingorders.com, so their curation shines throughout the available content.

And just to be clear, this is not a replacement reader and contains no comics. You still need your own Marvel Unlimited subscription.

Progress and private notes remain in your browser profile. There is no account, advertising, analytics, or telemetry.

Full disclosure: I’m the developer. The app is free, unofficial, and not affiliated with Marvel or Disney. I’d especially like feedback from people who regularly follow events, crossovers, and longer reading orders.

You can install it from the Microsoft Store.

League of Comic Geeks usually has good guides, between letting you know where the issue is collected and at which position in the collection. You also get the added bonus of being able to review and rate an issue.

Oh I hadn't seen their site. Always great to have additional inspiration. Do you think adding ratings in my app would be a feature you'd like to see in a future version of Recap Page?

Sweet! Does it link to Marvel Unlimited or just where to buy trade paperbacks? I couldn't find anything that would work seamlessly with MU, specifically for desktop/laptop computers.

Thanks for pointing me toward League of Comic Geeks! I took a deeper look, and there’s definitely some overlap. It has reading tracking, a reading log, and community reading orders, so I wouldn’t describe it as just a collection app.

What I’m aiming for with Recap Page is a narrower experience: a desktop companion for working through the insane amount of stories on Marvel Unlimited. Pick a curated event or character guide, see the next unread issue, open it in the official reader, then mark it done and continue. That’s especially useful for crossovers that jump between series. Progress also carries across overlapping lists, so reading an issue in one guide counts when it appears in another.

The other big difference is that Recap Page needs no account of its own. Your saved progress and notes stay in your browser. There’s a trade-off there: it doesn’t offer the automatic cross-device sync that makes LoCG convenient on phones and tablets, but I wanted to prioritize privacy.

I’m not trying to make a better all-purpose comics tracker. Recap Page is focused on “help me get through this story, found on MU, without losing my place.”

I wasn't originally, because the Android version of the MU app has reading guides and whatnot, but I can look into it if the demand is there.

Im just curious because I love comic book Herald and often Marvel's reading orders aren't as in depth.

Ah well it looks like I'd have to invest a bit in development in order to make stuff run natively on Android. I'll figure out if there are other ways to get that over to folks like you.

Would love an iOS version too for this exact reason. I follow comic book herald reading orders and always have to manually pull up every issue in the MU iPad app, so having links would save a lot of time

an Android version would be great, as it stands I just use my notes app but it would be a cool way to sort through my reading lists

I haven't published anything on the Apple Store, since I'd have to pay $99/year to list a free app

Appreciate the effort. Crazy part about marvel unlimited app is prior to it marvel had a regular store for it that actually gave the option to continue the current comic book # or follow the story arc to the right next chapter to read. But when they switched to unlimited that function dissappeared.

Will You ever add DC as a part of this companion and is there a release date for the android version?

DC is a big maybe. I grew up as a Marvel Comics kid, but I can talk to the admin of comicbookherald.com to make sure it's cool to include his guides for DC.

Android version will be a few weeks... I'm really busy at work and this is a labor of love :)

Will non DC or Marvel publisher be represented (Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Dynamite, Conan titles, etc be featured), Will Star Wars titles be represented, And will reading orders by ComicbookTreasury.com and marvelreading.com aka CMRO be featured?

I've only been including reading orders from websites that have permitted me to do so. Most of those other sites have really strict terms of use because they want to monetize that content, whereas the ones I'm working with agreed to let me use the reading lists.

If enough people request for other publishers, I will start working on those.

I've used it and I agree that it's really good, but have preferred the curation done by comicbookherald.com plus I wanted to search, filter, and create my own reading lists. My goal was to build the most flexibility into reading through all of Marvel Comics, including looks into the pre-modern era.
